  1. Russell scratched from the lineup today. Hopefully he's boarding the ship flying into the sun.
  2. It basically cost nothing and he has held lefties to a .471 OPS this season. Sure, why not
  3. Keep him there. No, sorry, fire him into the sun. Now yes, DFA Descalso and call up Happ.
  4. Mike Trout in 14 July games thus far: 11 home runs, 23 RBI, .302/.406/.981/1.387 batting line, all with a .152 BABIP
  5. I've thought about this trade more......and I'm still annoyed we sold so low on Monty for a backup catcher we could've had for $2 million in the offseason. I'm not questioning that Maldonado fits an important need, and is good to have with Willy on the IL. And I figured we'd be trading Monty anyway. But this feels like a short-sighted overpay.
  6. Yeah wtf this trade makes no horsefeathering sense It's even more maddening when you consider THEY COULD'VE SIGNED MALDONADO IN THE OFFSEASON FOR CHEAP AND DIDN'T.
  7. I know Monty has been bad and hurt this year but trading him straight up for a rental backup catcher is beyond horsefeathering stupid. I'm actually mad about this. Caratini has been solid as a backup and 2B has been a black hole and the pen is a mess but ok.
  8. According to the Baseball America transactions page, we released Duensing on June 20. Buh bye.
  9. According the the Baseball America transactions page, we released Brad Markey and he was scooped up by the Reds. There was a time I thought he'd be an interesting reliever for us. Oh well.
  10. Guys, Seal Boy is leading the AL voting at second base.
  11. 1. Hoerner 2. Amaya 3. Marquez 4. Ademan 5. Alzolay 6. B. Davis 7. Jensen 8. Roederer 9. T. Miller 10. de la Cruz 11. Abbott 12. Strumpf 13. Steele 14. K. Thompson 15. N. Velazquez I went to 15 but honestly after the first 8 or so, it's a crapshoot. There's a lot of guys you could make a case for.
  12. Along with Bobby Hill, Hee Seop Choi, Augie Ojeda, etc., etc. Okay, maybe not Augie Ojeda. I learned recently that he just retired a couple of years ago. Yeah he played in Indy ball forever. Not a Cub but Lew Ford is still playing baseball, outfielder/hitting coach for the Long Island Ducks.
  13. David Kelton and Brendan Harris were guys I was really looking forward to panning out. Oops. Nic Jackson too.
  14. I can't believe we got him and can't believe we got him for just 3/45. What a deal.
  15. Nice get with Hearn. So 7 pitchers, 1 infielder and 2 catchers? Interesting. And those 8-10 rounders seems like severe underslots so I'd guess we have some more money to play with yes?
  16. So Leiter is still available? Are teams just assuming he'd be too expensive/is set on going to college?
  17. Former Cubs draft pick (and pitcher at my alma mater PSU) Dante Biasi went in 6th round to Royals. Cubs took him in 22nd round in 2016, didn't sign.
  18. Yeah, like I said before, these guys seem pretty interesting, but I'd have to imagine there's some underslot savings of some kind with three straight TJS pitchers.
  19. These guys are all relievers but seems like they have good stuff to work with? Maybe the hope is to stick a couple in the rotation in the early going to see if they can stick?
  20. His dad just signed a card for me through the mail and I got it today. Timing! (also makes me feel old)
  21. I feel pretty good about the Strumpf pick. Sounds like we have our future infield set up after everyone else leaves is in FA....
  22. That's..... underwhelming? Good fastball but a guy who projects as a reliever already doesn't seem great. I feel like in previous years we'd say "they'll use the savings later right?" And then they don't
