  1. I was unaware of the bread story and I just looked it up and I'm dead.
  2. Another interesting low-cost add for the pen/Iowa shuttle. I know not all these guys will stick in the organization through April but it seems we have a ton of relievers to work through. Seems like Underwood is gonna have to have a lights-out spring or get DFA'd.

  4. I had assumed we'd end up with him so that's a relief. Really hoping we sign Holt.
  5. Yeah I think this is right, with Winkler probably being the next guy up if any of these guys have a tough spring. I forgot about Winkler. And Morrow if he's ever healthy. And that's not including Maples, Mekkes, Underwood (who's out of options I believe), Norwood, etc. The pen has pretty solid (if unexciting) depth this year.
  6. He's not too bad for a third catcher. Not sure his defensive numbers but he has some pop. I imagine he's an upgrade from Taylor Davis as a baseball player (but not a camera starer)
  7. Just the thing to get Cubs Con fired up! Seriously though, not a bad addition. Very good walk numbers, decent K numbers in the minors. So he either makes the team or gets put on waivers. Assuming he makes it, the pen is likely: Kimbrel, Ryan, Wick, Wieck, Mills/Chatwood, Tepera, Sadler, the Rule 5 guy?
  8. lololol this offseason [tweet] [/tweet]
  9. He posted very good numbers in AAA the last two seasons and throws hard. At the same time, the Blue Jays let him go when their pen consists of any cheap arm that can reach the mound. And you can't trust someone with two first names. Also, he was apparently once traded for bitter-end-of-his-career Josh Willingham.
  10. Their pen doesn't have an elite option but should be good enough. The rotation is where they really dropped the ball. It might be fine, but they'll almost certainly be making an in-season trade. Yeah they need to add there between now and then. I still think Q is a nice fit there whether it’s before the year for LT purposes or at the deadline if we are sellers. I could even see something like Chatwood for Jake Cave as a deal that works for both sides (with us chipping some money in obv)
  11. The pitching is still a mess and giant question mark, this is a nice going for it move but they half assed the pitching in going for it. Their pen doesn't have an elite option but should be good enough. The rotation is where they really dropped the ball. It might be fine, but they'll almost certainly be making an in-season trade.
  12. Good for the Twinkies. I am glad to see them still going for it. They should be fun again. I wish we were fun again...
  13. Wow, look how normal teams deal with their horsefeathers head players I know it took them like 6 months to release him after the news came out but they still did it.
  14. They have two fun young major league starters: Zac Gallen and Luke Weaver. They've also got a fantastic farm, but nothing super close to the majors, so one of those two would have to be the headliner I'd think. I love Zac Gallen and was surprised how quickly Miami dealt him away. That said, not sure he screams "headliner" in a trade for our superstar third baseman.
  15. Ketel Marte but not like this, future trade or FA In non-Bryant trade scenarios they have plenty to like, if only back of the roster or MiL depth...They're another team along with Philly that I keep thinking might be willing to trade a pitcher for Almora That pitcher either wouldn’t have arms or would be unfathomably bad Idk, Philly has some guys that are interesting and likely won't make the rotation in Eickhoff and Pivetta (and potentially Velazquez) so I'd take a shot on any of them for Almora. And Philly doesn't seem totally comfortable giving Hasely the CF job outright.
  16. FWIW the prospect we got back was ranked as a top 30 prospect in the A's system and seems to have a good approach at the plate/good defense at first.
  17. I know this doesn't move the needle at all and Kemp hit pretty poorly with us after the trade, but he has great defensive versatility and seems like a really likeable guy. I'd have rather just cut Descalso (who still somehow has a roster spot). You could argue maybe this paves the way for a signing but also probably not. #PTR
  18. Almora for Arenado, who says no?
  19. So that means we're currently, what, 800K below the projections?
  20. Cubs outfielder Albert Almora will earn $1.575MM this year, Robert Murray reports on Twitter.
  21. Womp womp. Best of luck dude
  22. I'm irrationally pissed off a solid prospect like Liberatore is going to the Cardinals of all teams. I know he's still a bit away but he seems like someone who is gonna make it for them and give us fits for years.
  23. This is a solid depth signing but it's again like our biggest offensive acquisition so horsefeathers us right
