  1. [tweet] [/tweet] I'm a fan. He was a pretty good prospect. The depth can't hurt.
  2. Abreu staying with the White Sox, 3 years $50 mil
  3. So seems like strong odds Giambrone and Mekkes are taken right? Both would be Opening Day contributors on, like, the Orioles or Marlins or Tigers.
  4. And saying that, it certainly seems like we're making a couple minor trades in the next two weeks to lessen that 40 man crunch. So Mekkes and Giambrone or similar players on the cusp could be sent away for lottery tickets.
  5. Yeah if we don't roster Mekkes, someone like the Marlins or Orioles will definitely take him. I do believe he could be a good relief option as early as this season. And Giambrone would definitely get taken as well if he isn't rostered. Also I can see why Theo is attached to Almora, he's a cheap CF option and was also his first first rounder with us. At the same time, he cratered last year and if you wanna compete, he can't get 300 at bats next season. Best bet would be to try and find a trade partner. Send him to a bad team looking for reclamation projects/cheap starters and get a lottery ticket and some salary relief in return.
  6. No cubs rexeived any MVP votes but Kevin Pillar got one (!!!?!!!). When was the last year no Cub received a vote for any award because that's what happened this year. 2013?
  7. Isn't d'Arnaud a terrible framer or did I make that up? If we're insisting on trading Willy then plan A has to be Grandal and plan B a Caratini/Jason Castro split. I like Castro quite a bit if we go that route.
  8. Bleed cubbie blue /sb nation went hog wild on an off-season prediction. I'll just put the link here https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2019/11/7/20951434/sb-nation-offseason-simulation-fake-2020-cubs Lotsa trades and such and I don't totally hate it. Still don't love trading Willy
  9. Glad they got re-signed. Hoping Black and Hagerty make it. Burks should be good CF depth at some point. And I still have hopes de la Cruz becomes an interesting reliever for us.
  10. I still can't get over Whitaker not being in. I think this rights that wrong. Also Simmons and Munson have to go in. You can't have a list of the best catchers of the last 50 years without them.
  11. BUT the Cubs were tied to Teheran forever so we have to sign him to fulfill the near decade-long destiny.
  12. For the record, I was by the bullpen during the Phillies series in Philly and asked Strop if he's coming back next season and he aggressively nodded "yes" so there you have it.
  13. Carl's Jr was outrighted by San Diego and elected free agency. Bring him home!
  14. MLB Trade Rumors has their top 50 free agent predictions out and have us signing just Kyle Gibson and will Harris. Grim.
  15. Along with Cesar Hernandez, Jonathan Villar is another second base candidate I wouldn't mind. Both could be non-tendered due to their projected arb price tags around 9-10 mil.
  16. Fiiiiiiine. Do you think a stipulation is Ross has to hire someone with experience as bench coach? I feel like he wouldn't get total say in his assistants.
  17. Announced as early as Thursday that he's Joe Espada's bench coach?
  18. If the Phillies don't Non-tender Hernandez, a swap of him for Chatwood makes a lot of sense for both teams. I know it's been mentioned before. I just feel like bringing it up again. Russell as good as gone. I feel like there's a deal to be had in which we send Almora to someone for a useful reliever.
  19. How shortsighted/dumb would it be to let Mills and Alzolay battle it out for the 5th spot? I like what they both bring to the table. Or should we allow them to do the same for the long-relief role. I honestly thing they'd be better options for 5 than Chatwood, who seems to thrive in a LR role.
  20. Guys, hear me out..... Kyle Hendricks: Player-manager
  21. What would that realistically take? Schwarber/Happ/Amaya/Marquez?
  22. Do we still have Tony Kemp under contract? Rather DFA Descalso and keep Kemp. Q is still an affordable rotation option. Would depend on the reliever we're getting back.
  23. Thanks for everything, Joe. The Cubs won a World Series. Some people forget that. So now what? Change was definitely needed but who are the top names to fill the void?
  24. Does an Almora+ for Jackie Bradley trade do anything for anyone? I've liked JBJ awhile, Sox trying to trim some salary.
  25. I do think there's something there with the Phillies. They need pitching badly and have expendable position players. I really do think a Chatwood for Hernandez deal makes sense with others involved. Pivetta wasn't that good this year. I'd rather have Eflin if any of them but I don't think they give up on him just yet. Could probably add Almora to the deal too. Maybe see if we can help them get out of Robertson's contract if we think he'll be healthy.
