  1. Now that's someone who would've made sense for us on a minor league deal
  2. I guess that's who we tried to boot from the 40 man.
  3. Aw hell yeah He's well-traveled catcher Caleb's brother, as well.
  4. Just 1 mil? Did PTR Jedi mind trick him into taking that?
  5. The last report I saw sounded like it could be Betts for Wil Myers, Chris Paddack/Cal Quantrill and Josh Naylor and that would be pretty meh deal for the Sox.
  6. Eh, it's fine. Pretty cheap and if he is close to his 2018 numbers, it's a steal. Surprised it's a MLB deal though. And still bummed about no Strop.
  7. Now that's a name I haven't thought about in a long time.
  8. If Hoerner makes the team, especially with that bench, I can see him making the starting line up a good amount just in a psuedo-Zobrist role. If you keep Heyward/Souza in a straight platoon, I think Hoerner becomes the main 'backup' for Schwarber (Bryant to left), Happ (Heyward to center, Bryant to right), Bryant (Bote to third), Baez, and Bote. Even just giving those 5 guys 10-15 games off for the year gets you 50-75 starts. Although this implies a world where Almora doesn't exist, so it might be a little hopeful. Fair point. I keep waiting for them to trade Almora to, like, the Phillies for Vince Velasquez or something and nope.
  9. Nico isn't gonna be on the bench. He's either starting or he's getting at bats in Iowa. Would guess if it's another infielder it's Hernan Perez or Robel. Maybe Short.
  10. And in case you were wondering how he'll fit on the 40 man:
  11. I liked Souza as a buy-low candidate and he has a nice power-speed combo and passable defense. I guess this means no on Castellanos.
  12. Yeah, that doesn't make sense... SD doesn't have that deep a farm system that they can unload Wil Myers on Boston, get Mookie Betts and hold on to their top five prospects. That's ridiculous lol. You have to front load that deal with Gore or Patino or CJ Abrams. One of those prospects has to be part of the trade package. Oh I totally agree. Idk how that deal gets done otherwise.
  13. Looks like the talks are Wil Myers and a bunch of prospects but none of the Padres top five prospects and the hold up is how much the Red Sox want to pay of Myers' contract.
  14. I know we have basically a full pen now but not bringing back Strop horsefeathering kills me, especially considering how cheap he's likely gonna be
  15. When we don't even have the money for Neil Walker.
  16. I'd have to think Castellanos would take a one year deal similar to that at this point. And I'm bummed the Cubs probably won't even try.
  17. That's pretty cool to have 3 top 100 prospects but I'm shocked that Amaya isn't there. He'd have to have just missed right?
  18. Hultzen is official. Brothers was at one point a solid reliever for the Rockies and we traded for him in 2015 before releasing him in the spring. Lefty with big K numbers. Cuevas is your standard AAA reserve.
  19. I was unaware of the bread story and I just looked it up and I'm dead.
  20. Another interesting low-cost add for the pen/Iowa shuttle. I know not all these guys will stick in the organization through April but it seems we have a ton of relievers to work through. Seems like Underwood is gonna have to have a lights-out spring or get DFA'd.
  21. [tweet] [/tweet]
  22. I had assumed we'd end up with him so that's a relief. Really hoping we sign Holt.
  23. Yeah I think this is right, with Winkler probably being the next guy up if any of these guys have a tough spring. I forgot about Winkler. And Morrow if he's ever healthy. And that's not including Maples, Mekkes, Underwood (who's out of options I believe), Norwood, etc. The pen has pretty solid (if unexciting) depth this year.
  24. He's not too bad for a third catcher. Not sure his defensive numbers but he has some pop. I imagine he's an upgrade from Taylor Davis as a baseball player (but not a camera starer)
