  1. Rather surprising but hey a not-terrible option on basically a reasonable one year contract. I'll take it. Also helps with depth and doesn't force us to consider both of Steele and Thompson for the rotation.
  2. Adam had a horrific injury in May. That he came back to pitch this season is impressive. AND he struck out the side in his return.
  3. Maples went unclaimed on waivers and was outrighted back to Iowa. He's a minor league free agent after the season.
  4. Keegan Thompson also back and Nick Martini optioned. I feel like there were better DFA options than Maples. Kinda bummed because it seemed like he was finally figuring it out in the majors. He predates Theo and Jed in the organization!
  5. That's a real shame. Still had hopes he could make it.
  6. Bote to IL. Meisinger and Jewell DFAd. Glad Rivas is getting the call finally. And good for Effross. He's been in the system for 6 years, now gets a shot.
  7. Don't Google Riley Steele at work or with kids around.
  8. Oh my god. This tweet has been up for more than an hour. [tweet] [/tweet] But hooray for Nelson
  9. Ryan Theriot Well then he has to go in with Mike Fontenot. Those are the rules.
  10. So who are the next Cubs HOFers? Sosa, Grace, DLee, Aram, Kerry, Big Z?
  11. Sampson pitched in the KBO last year and was not good and has been meh in Iowa this year but someone was needed for the start and it was his turn at Iowa. Seems likely he'll be one and done. Maybe Leeper gets a call up once Sampson is DFAd.
  12. I guess I didn't know much about Hermosillo before this season (had a few not-great cups of coffee) but he was a top 20 prospect for the Angels for a few years and he's still only 26. He's mashed in Iowa so maybe there's something there. At the very least maybe he's a decent 4th OF.
  13. Who called it in the other thread? Would also be fine with Meisinger and Jewell getting booted for Mekkes and Leeper.
  14. I'm fine riding out this hot streak as someone put it. He'll come back to earth at some point. I could see him being a guy that uses this brief success as a jumping off point to a nice contract in Japan or Korea next year to build up some more value. I assumed he and Fargas were called up out of need and they were on the 40 man. Maybe they'll keep hitting but I wonder if/when some more interesting guys in AAA get a call up. Related: what's the deal with September rosters this year?
  15. Someone on Twitter pointed out how good the Cubs protocols must be. Not that they've done a ton right but we've had no outbreaks yet and Rizzo goes to the Yankees and gets COVID-19 immediately. Maybe that says more about the Yankees, idk.
  16. He and Nic Jackson were my favorite cubs prospects for a hot minute. I think I saw Jackson is a coach for the Brooklyn Cyclones

  19. Good, no offense to Schwindel or Fargas but they're just guys who were on the roster in a pinch. I'd rather call Deichmann and Rivas up and see what we have for next year.
  20. I like Hoerner a lot and believe he can handle SS fine. We were spoiled with one of the best for several years. That said, signing Semien or another big SS and using Hoerner and Bote as super utility guys seems like a good way to go as well. Can still get Hoerner 350-400 PA that way (assuming health of course).
  21. Oh man. What are Meph and MurtonFan up to?
  22. I mean if he can throw two pitches well and bring some heat and ends up topping out as a 7th-8th inning reliever, that's a fine return for a backup rental outfielder.
  23. That return is awful. Almost seems like Hoyer waited too long and took the best package left available to him before having to keep Bryant. Garbage trade, garbage organization.
  24. [tweet] [/tweet] He was once a big time prospect.
