  2. I know those options are out there but I just dont see us able to add enough payroll to go out and sign those kind of players after this past offseason. As far as Crawford is concerned, what kind of package would you ask for is you were TB? I dont reallysee a package the Cubs could afford to give to land that caliber of player without creating holes elsewhere. Maybe we could land ARod assuming him and the Yanks part ways. But does that alone secure us a playoff spot? Because that size of contract would probably handcuff any moves we can make in the next 3-5 years. How many 100 mil contract players can one team afford?? Would the 2007 Cubs + ARod be enough in 08? I probably should have mentioned I was dreaming. We'd have to mortgage the future in order to acquire those guys. That is kind of the purpose of this thread. Are we looking at basically the same team next year and mediocrity for years to come or do the Cubs make a big splash this offseason and make a run at next year while being screwed for years to come? I would like to think that seeing how we tailed off at the end of this season (barring a big win streak) management would want to upgrade at a few positions in teh offseason. However, the sale of the club may serve to hinder our offseason. I can see us adding another bat and another pitcher, but probably not making a huge splash.
  3. Should I be surprised that Lou Holtz just picked ND to win? Mark May responded "What? They gave up 33 points last week."
  4. Being a smartass sucks when you turn out to be wrong. Hahaha

  6. Carl Crawford, Johan Santana, Mariano Rivera, and and A-Rod. 2008 WS (I don't think Crawford is a FA, but TB trades away their young talent before they get too pricey anyway)
  7. Consider it a blessing. Walk away, dude. Just walk away.I.........can't.
  8. I've heard the Pirates announcers before and they're not exactly geniuses.
  9. He should walk into the visitor's dugout and punch out Jim Tracy. That would get the team riled up. Or at least make this game interesting.
  10. Just got in. Are we really losing to the Pirates? Somehow I'm not surprised
  11. Agree. The logical thing would be to get rid of Dempster next year, bring in a reliable set up guy and make Marmol and his 1.45 ERA and high strike out ratio the closer. I don't see a lot of logic in taking Marmol out of the more important 7th/8th inning role. Agreed. You'd be hard press to find anyone that is as effective to replace him. Yep. It would be better to acquire a pitcher with experience as a good closer, such as Fuentes or Cordero and keep Marmol in the 7th/8th inning. I'm fine with Dempster until he proves other wise. That too. My suggestion was only if Dempster was moved. I still think he close out games effectively.

  13. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/mlb/09/07/drug.probe/index.html Thanks. This is starting to get big.
  14. I'm trying to find a link, but my friend said that they just announced on ESPN2 that Troy Glaus also received shipments of HGH.
  15. Wow, what took so long? I bet Jake is doing a little dance at the moment.
  16. I haven't wandered over there yet, but I have seen plenty of pictures. Colin Cowherd is doing his show from The HUB today I saw them setting up an ESPN booth there yesterday. I guess that's what it was for.

  18. I like it :D
  19. Wow. Gotta love the quote there from Blanco. Good to see he knows his role on the team. Yeah, I wish more players could be like that.
  20. I'm not putting this on Dempster. He's been pretty good/ reliable as of late, and yes, he's due for a bad outing here and there. The offense should have scored a few more runs.
