The Padres made another deal, getting Will Wagner from the Blue Jays.
And fwiw to all the people freaking out about lack of reports, this trade was broken by the Padres tweeting it. No one else had it.
Yankees add Jake Bird, who I had my eye on. They give up Ben Shields, a 26 year old lefty, and Roc Riggio, a second baseman hitting well in AA and a member of the great names HOF.
Rafael Flores is a decent catching prospect but no way can he be the headliner for Bednar, especially with the going rate at this deadline. Also interesting to note as he's in AAA and Pirates have Henry Davis, Endy Rodriguez and Joey Bart.
Locklear is raking and is better than those rankings indicate. He could be Arizona's first baseman now.
What would our version of this trade look like? Alcantara, Neely and Sanders or Birdsell?
I like it, as long as he's not the only starter acquired. The mph drop is concerning but his peripherals have been good all year and he was pretty great out of the pen last year.
I immediately thought of Franklin as the return before it was reported. Idk why, seemed like an obvious candidate. But adding Cruz too hurts a little. He's far off but looks pretty interesting. The market is bonkers. We're gonna be giving up a lot for a better starter.
His time was coming to an end. ERA over 6 and FIP over 7 since his scoreless streak ended. He wasn't gonna have a roster spot past this weekend anyway. Thanks for the memories.
One of my favorite players growing up. This really sucks.
He signed through the mail for me a few years ago and he was prolific at signing for fans and there had been people saying their cards were returned to sender recently so it didn't seem good.
As would I. But now with McMahon off the market, the price probably went up. And McMahon isn't a rental and is an elite defender but he has an OPS below .600 away from Coors, so.....
Rookie left-hander Brandyn Garcia and pitching prospect Ashton Izzi are headed back to Arizona, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Both in the 10-20 range in Seattle's system.
Reminds me of how he tore it up for a couple weeks after being recalled, only to slump again. Hope it's sustainable but also hope they make an infield addition at the deadline.
