  1. I have to think some of the negativity stems from him being an underwhelming acquisition when it felt like resources were slim and hopes were aimed higher for another starter. Rea has pitched better than anticipated and is a fine 5th starter whose presence has really helped given injuries, but I hope we don't see him in the postseason.
  2. Kidding aside I've liked Bradley for awhile and would definitely be a fan of acquiring him but I'm sure the ask would be high.
  3. I mean, yeah he sneaks into the back half of the top 10, sure. The ranking is basically your favorite order of: Ballesteros, Alcantara, Caissie, Wiggins, Rojas and then after that it's pretty open. Lotta guys with upside but also warts. No reason to think our 1st rounder the FO and some talking heads really like couldn't get into the top 10 right now. Triantos is a bat only guy with minimal power who isn't hitting. Birdsell has been hurt most of the year. Long doesn't have a defensive home. Etc. Etc. Etc.
  4. It really is so hard to judge an MLB draft immediately. These things need to simmer. My initial impression as a casual draft follower is we got some real interesting guys who will be fun to follow. Think back to how stoked we all were for that 2011 draft class. Mostly a big yikes in hindsight aside from Javy.
  5. Hey the Book is out on that pick. He went to school in Philly. This area has seen some kids do well in the last few years
  6. Hey I wasn't completely wrong! You were in State College when I went to Penn State right? Kinda wild we never met up. Alas.
  7. Are you still in Columbus or am I just misremembering random things from 15 years ago?
  8. I was saying like a month ago we should give Long a shot. We barely use Brujan (and both he and Berti suck). Swap them out and it gives them a few games to see if Long could be a useful bat down the stretch and doesn't stop the front office from making other moves. We have no power on our bench aside from our catchers, which is grim. Something needs to change.
  9. Zach McKinstry is an All Star.
  10. My pie in the sky is still Joe Ryan, Griffin Jax and Willi Castro but an interesting thought is going to the Rangers. Josh Smith is having a good season and can play all over. Nathan Eovaldi is having a good season and wouldn't be a rental. Could also look at one of their relievers. Would Ballesteros, Caissie, Ben Brown for Eovaldi, Smith and Hoby Milner be too much? Not enough?
  11. Yeah it's gonna be tough for Seiya. You can make the argument that Goodman goes as the catcher, taking him out of the DH equation. And you can argue Devers either not going or it being a Samardzija situation because of the timing of the trade. But then he's still contending with Schwarber, who's also posting solid numbers and is a fan favorite/well liked around the league. I doubt they pick 3 DHs.
  12. I mean what on earth would it take to get Skenes? Mo Baller, Horton, Caissie, Shaw? Is that enough? Is that worth it? And what incentive is there for the Pirates to trade him in the next 2 years?
  13. Yeah I'd like to aim higher than Keller but he does do some things well and is under control a few more years, which is nice. It depends on cost and leaving room to add other assets.
  14. Yeah I think Brown needs to get some time in Iowa and get things figured out. His peripherals show some bad luck but something isn't working. Hopefully Hodge is good to go and then presumably Fullmer gets demoted or DFAd for Shota.

  16. That is shocking. He is still just 20. Seems crazy to give up on him now when you spent a decent sum to sign him not that long ago.
  17. Mule and Wiggins were my two biggest hopes in lower level pitching entering this season. I like these two previous update posts.
  18. There's absolutely no power on the bench. A guy with a career SLG around .360 isn't the answer. We don't need an another speed guy. I know he's well-liked but I think it's soon time to cut ties with Turner and see if Jonathon Long is up for the task as a way of taking stock of the roster before the Deadline. If we're replacing Brujan it has to be a clear upgrade.
  19. Do the Nats just not K much or was our game plan entirely to induce soft contact?
  20. Tyson Miller DFA'd. Maybe I'm not looking into it enough but that perplexes me a little. He was great last year. Does he just look worse than his numbers indicate in Iowa?
  21. I love me some Gallen and if they could solve some of those issues down the stretch, that would be awesome. But he is having a down year and is a pending FA. And I can see Arizona not wanting to sell low but also want to get something for him if he walks and he has ace stuff. What would the cost even be?
