  1. He used to be a somewhat highly regarded prospect, no? I'd love to see him replace Hill as Soto's backup.
  2. I'd love for the rotation to be Z, Garza, Demp, Wells, Cash with Gorz traded or in middle relief and Silva just flat out gone. That rotation with a pen of: Gorz, Guzman, Marshall, Wood, Marmol and one of Grabow/Gaub/Berg/Russell/etc would be pretty decent.
  3. FWIW, Heyman tweeted the rotation looks like Z, Garza, Demp, Cashner and one of Wells/Silva/Gorz But then again, he's not that intelligent.
  4. How can you possibly forget about Shark??!? Gorz has been on the block for well over a month, wouldn't be shocked if he were moved for prospects eventually. Yeah, I could easily see him being dealt in the near future with this trade near completion. Heck, maybe the Yanks will overpay since Pettitte told them this morning they should basically forget him for now.
  5. Or Hellickson. Or Wade Davis. I'd be happy with Davis, especially if we let them take Carlos Silva off our hands. Seriously, he's putting a real drain on the pitching staff now. Anyone think we'll just cut him?
  6. That changes things. I don't mind giving up the package we're giving up if TB is sending us some interesting prospects back, too.
  7. You gotta be kidding me. I don't care about Chirinos or Guyer. But I would've liked to hold onto Lee and Archer. I'm more annoyed at seeing Archer included. I hope Garza doesn't have a bad year. How long is he under team control? Anyone know?
  8. http://deadspin.com/5725821/lets-marvel-at-the-perfect-absurdity-of-this-espn-guys-hof-ballot
  9. What does Demp need to bounce back from? 3.85 ERA/3.89 xFIP/1.32 WHIP are all right in line with his Cub career. Yeah, I don't what people expect, but Dempster has actually been pretty good. I never expected him to post a 2.95 ERA again.
  10. Happy for Blyleven. He deserved it. Kinda disappointing to see how few votes Bagwell and McGriff got.
  11. So what happens to Michael Young? He's getting up there in age but can still hit. I'm not saying we should try to trade for him, though, since his contract is ridiculous and we have enough of those already.
  12. Didn't that reach 100 pages or something ridiculous? I know since we've had the Peavy, Crawford and now Garza threads, but I don't think anything will ever come close to Roberts.
  13. Haven't we been interested in Frasor each of the last like 4 offseasons? Hendry better not overpay for a middle reliever, especially since I can tell he's gonna give up way too much for Garza.
  14. Is this just a random blog? There's no source or attribution. I call BS.
  15. Dang. I didn't know he was still alive.
  16. Won their fourth consecutive national championship tonight. Just incredible. That, combined with their streak of 109 consecutive wins (snapped earlier this year), where would you rank this team in terms of sports dynasties, at least on the college level?
  17. Yeah I didn't know this was a done deal yet and haven't seen it anywhere.
  18. The per-year salary is fair, but I wouldn't want him under contract for three years. Makes me feel even better about the Pena deal.
  19. For some reason I was listening to Michael Kay's show yesterday and he couldn't comprehend how someone could sign for that little. He questioned why they Yankees didn't offer more and blow him away with an offer. When his co-host said Wood just wanted to go back to the Cubs, Kay shrugged it off as if loyalty didn't matter compared to money. Just moments before that, he compared Cliff Lee to "the girl who rejects you so you hope she ends up with the fat, loser boyfriend that treats her badly." You stay classy, Michael Kay.
  20. Not worth it. If the anxiety issues increase, he'll just implode. I'd rather develop some of the pitchers we'd give up in the trade and see what they can do. Would be cheaper. Also, remember that the Royals asked the Blue Jays for Drabek, Snider and a couple other prospects. That's a lot to give up for an unstable pitcher, especially after we've done a good job restocking the farm the past few years.
  21. Mark Prior's number? Whenever I see a number 22 for the Cubs I always think of Bill Buckner. This. I wear my 1978 Buckner jersey with pride.
  22. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chicago-cubs-kerry-wood-pitcher-puts-heart-ahead-of-money-121710
  23. Considering the middle of their order last year was Ryan Sweeney and Kurt Suzuki, I'd say this is a step up.
  24. Why? There are no redeeming factors to this trade. Unless Hendry thinks we need more grit.
