  1. Sappelt is a 24 year old outfielder in AAA who debuted last season. Not sure why we need him though. Torreyes seems very intriguing. A middle infielder who is ust 19 and has a .935 OPS over two seasons in the minors. Sappelt actually makes the Reed Johnson signing more confusing and pointless. I'd rather just give Sappelt a chance as the 4th/5th OF this season than waste it on Reed. Yeah, agreed. Unless we're flipping him somewhere else as part of another deal.
  2. Meh. He could make for a nice buy-low candidate. I'm sure the dollar amount isn't much. We may have been better off with someone already in the system getting a bullpen spot, but I'll give the front office the benefit of the doubt for now. If it makes anyone feel better, Hendry probably would've given Corpas a three-year $15 mil deal with a NTC.

  4. What is it that makes you think Johnson will be a better player in 2012 than Campana? I have more faith in him putting up an OPS north of .750. Campana just strikes me as a poor man's Reggie Willits, but without the walks and worse defense.
  5. Man I hate to give up Marshall, he's been one of my favorite Cubs the past few years. Getting Hamilton as one of the prospects would be sweet, but how is Travis Wood any different than Randy Wells, aside from age?
  6. What's the big effin deal? I know he's not great. Theo knows he's not great. But he's a good bench bat/4th outfielder and that's all he'll be. It's a cheap, one year deal. I personally wouldn't want Campana as our 4th outfielder next year.
  7. I would love to have something from the Tigers farm system. Buying low on Porcello would be great and I like Turner. I wonder if Theo and Jed were waiting out on a Garza trade to see how the market played out. After the Latos trade, we should be able to get a nice haul.
  8. Yeah we aren't going to be good. I would think the Garza to Rangers talks will heat up if the Jays did indeed win the bidding on Darvish. Losing Garza and going with someone like Scott/Lahair/Loney at 1B would put us in top 3 pick territory in the 2013 draft. i'm trying to think of two worse teams if that actually happens. Can we really do worse than the Astros?
  9. It's Rogers, so take with a grain of salt as usual @ChiTribRogers Phil Rogers After non-tendering Koyie Hill, #cubs have some interest in long-time #redsox Jason Varitek. His CERA last year: 3.57. ChiTribRogers Phil Rogers #Cubs are also checking out Tim Wakefield. In both cases, nothing seems imminent and interest could end if they acquire other guys.
  10. Will probably be their new closer, taking them out of Ryan Madson running
  11. Scott's numbers would be nice but I've have a hard time looking past his personality. I wouldn't mind Saunders at the right price. Then again, is he a fly-ball pitcher? That might not work out so well.
  12. Remember when Ryan Spilborghs was linked in trades to half the league and the Rockies just wouldn't trade him? Wonder if there will be a bunch of teams interested. Also, is Sonannstine not good anymore? I remember him being decent for a few years with the Rays.
  13. Bummer. One of my favorite Cubs the past few years. I was really hoping he'd go to the AL so this will kinda suck every time we play the Brewers.
  14. Yes, our 2012 opening day 1B would have been Tyler Colvin... That's pretty dumb. I don't see how the two were intertwined. Probably just baseless guessing.
  15. No one is gonna give him 20 a year. Except maybe the Yankees if they're desperate. But after Igawa and Irabu backfired for them, I can't see them throwing that much dough.
  16. Jesus, everyone (and by everyone I mean the only three people who are complaining) calm the eff down. It's been a month, let everything play out. Rome wasn't built in a day (I usually refrain from cliches but it needed to be said). I like this deal. Colvin had no place here anymore. I like LeMahieu, but he doesn't walk and has no power. He could very well turn into Aaron Miles for all we know. This either has a chance to work out great for us, or it could backfire and all that happens is we're out a couple million and two minor pieces.
  17. No thank you.I don't know how much of an upgrade Sanchez would be over James Loney, and while I'm all for taking risks, knowing the Marlins and the fact that Sanchez is a productive player, he will be by no means cheap. They'll probably want to start at Szczur and McNutt. Meh. He wouldn't be an awful backup plan if we miss out on Fielder. Can still OPS over .800 with decent defense.
  18. If we sign Fielder and Pujols spurns the Cards to bankrupt the Marlins, well, that would be fantastic. Also, let this 10 year offer be true and then it turns out he's 35.
  19. Rockies acquire Kevin Slowey for a PTBNL
  20. I forget where I saw this but the Royals asked the Rays about Shields and they were told it would require Soria, Myers, Christian Colon and another prospect to get it done. I think they may have asked for Alex Gordon too but I'm not sure.
  21. Hmm...any chance we could get Brignac and 1 or those pitchers for Soto and 1 more piece? Maybe even Byrd? Perhaps see what else we could get if we expended the deal to include Marmol? I know Brignac hasn't had a ton of big league success, but much like Stewart, I'd love to give him a shot especially at 2nd. Well they are looking at free agent outfielders and Byrd would fit into their budget. I don't really want Brignac, but some kinda deal with Byrd and a couple prospects for Davis would be cool.
  22. Wouldn't be opposed but depending on the salary I don't know if it would be a good use of resources. And the Yanks apparently want him back.
