  1. What are the odds of it being Hinch or Acta with the other or Renteria being the bench coach?
  2. I would just prefer to not give up he or Edwards in a CarGo deal, since we're short on high-end arms. And from the rumblings, I'd think we could get it done without including either. That's just me.
  3. Agreed. He's a piece we need. We don't have enough top pitching prospects that we can afford to trade our top guy way.
  4. Anyone know where there is video of that play? I keep trying to find it. Also, shockingly, Girardi was an All-Star in his second stint with the Cubs.
  5. Perez is basically insane. I don't think he really likes anyone. Also, the NY Times is reporting the Yankees are going to make a "substantial" offer to Girardi today. I guess we will find out shortly if we're moving on from him or not.
  6. I imagine this is just agents trying to drum up interest in their players? Only one I'd be interested in Salty, and he'd be expensive. Especially considering Castillo was worth two more wins than him this season and is younger. You're not interested in McCann? I mean there's other places I'd address, but just saying as far as catchers go. McCann is also nice, but we have other places where we could better allocate the money.
  7. Not sure what the Balaguert thing is at the end. Maybe he meant to throw him in with Alcantara and Vog. More on this: So what kind of package would we be looking at? From their wants/needs, would Alcantara, Vogelbach and Russell, plus a couple of low level guys get it done? Especially if they're worried about him "being another Alex Rios situation."

  9. Baseball-Reference. Just click on a player's splits and it should be in there.
  10. And bring his brother back as pitching coach? Weren't we interested in this option a couple years ago?
  11. Certainly didn't do a piss poor job, what with the roster and expectations, but I could see the reasoning. Anyway he stays in the organization? If Girardi stays in NY, who would we target? The meatheads will complain we should have kept Sandberg.
  12. I feel like it flew under the radar, but Rondon didn't allow a run in 9 innings in September and from July 24 until the end of the season, he had a 2.28 ERA. We have a lot of interesting bullpen arms next year. Could actually be a strength with the depth we have lined up there.
  13. Mark Kotsay retiring too. They come in threes.
  14. Andrelton Simmons has a 5.3 bWAR....just on defense.
  15. Yeah, that was my exact argument. My friend tried to say Machado was more valuable because great third basemen are harder to come by than great outfielders. That is true, but Trout is probably the best player in baseball now as a 21 year old. I guess a more interesting question would be if you had to pick one young pitcher, who would it be?
  16. A friend posed a question on Facebook: "Who would you rather build a franchise around, Mike Trout or Manny Machado?" It was almost universally Trout, but I was curious to see what people here would say, or if you would pick someone else.
  17. At that point, I would rather let Arrieta/Hendricks/Grimm/Rusin/Cabrera/Villanueva battle it out. How many more offseasons are were going to go after a patchwork rotation? Letting those guys battle it out isn't going with a patchwork rotation? They all at least have a future in the organization and could probably perform similarly for a fraction of the cost. If Hughes were to sign cheaply, then I wouldn't be opposed. But I'd imagine we won't be the only team looking at him.

  19. Not really that prestigious, but MLB Trade Rumors named their Propsect All-Star Team. Vogelbach and Baez made it. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/09/prospect-rumor-roundup-all-prospect-team.html
  20. Chris Johnson currently leads the NL in batting average and only Miggy Cabrera has a higher average. I know it's batting average, but Chris Johnson? Really?
  21. Had my first game at Wrigley Thursday night. It was everything I had hoped it would be (including the loss  Sat in the bleachers, had some Old Style. Just a great time.
  22. Angels trade Callaspo to A's for Grant Green.
  23. They won't be regretting those in a few years when it comes time to lock up Trout.
  24. Astros got an intriguing prospect for Veras. I don't see why we can't get something similar.
  25. They're also close to getting Rios from the White Sox. That probably takes them out on Schierholtz. I feel like we may only be trading Gregg by the time the dust settles tomorrow evening.
