  1. And that's why I referenced Grabow's backloaded contract in the first place. That was his deal. Edit: his was 2.7 and 4.8, but yes, we could go back and forth for a while
  2. Agreed, great deal signing, let's move on from backloaded discussion
  3. How? Whether the team that signed him to that deal paid that money sooner or later, they were going to pay it anyway. Toss the money in with the deal if that's what's keeping the deal from happening. Let's just keep throwing money at the player. Assuming this was a normal Cubs signing of the past handful of years, the player was already 30+ and declining in value. In a 2/7.5 contract, I'd rather pay 4.8 and 2.7 assuming the player in his prime now will perform at a higher level then next year when older. Additionally, in year 2, a potential trade partner could view the lower value as an acceptable level of compensation instead of requiring money with the deal. It's not about the total value you're spending on the player, it's aligning pay and performance. If you want to backload a 5 year deal for a 26 year old, that'd align with expected performance curves.
  4. What Jersey said also Backloading creates a greater risk of a player underperforming his contract and making it more untradeable.
  5. It *always* makes sense. Giving someone $4 million this year and $3 million next year is paying them more value than reversing the two years. If you're saying TVM for the player side, that's an entirely different discussion and not related to a team's annual payroll. Why would TVM only matter from the player side? I guess I've just never heard interest rates and float as a reason for fluctuating payroll.

  7. I hate Hendry too and everything, but I really wish people would stop saying "backloaded contract lol" like it's a bad thing. It's a good and smart thing. When given to good players. And when done for strategic purposes. Backloading a 2/$7.5M contract for a $130M payroll makes no sense.
  8. Cubs paid Grabow $4.8 last year (backloaded contract, of course) to sit in the left field stands
  9. There was def one ref clearly waiving his hands for stopping the clock
  10. That's totally inappropriate. It's lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous.
  11. Our starting center shot 5 three pointers. Of course he was 0-5. As a team from beyond the arc: 3-28
  12. Illinois's mid-season downfall is coming along quite nicely this year. Start 10-0, get expectations high, and then lose 2 of 3 (almost all 3, save an escape at home vs. 4-6 powerhouse Cornell). Malcontent players, people transfering, people blaming Bruce, talk of the one young potential star going pro. Yes yes, shaping up to be a quintessential Illini basketball season.
  13. PC is a great offensive mind, but has not shown the ability to heavily recruit or be a face of the program. I wish him the best, he transformed Wisconsin's offense the past few years, averaging 41 points/game last year and 46/game this year. It'll be interesting to see if BB/BA will stay in-house and promote Bostad to OC, or if they look outside. An interesting name brought up is Darrell Bevell, current OC of the Seahawks. 4 year starter in the early/mid 90s, including the 93 Rose Bowl.
  14. White Mamba back in the fold.
  15. https://mobile.twitter.com/PeteThamelNYT/status/145175897807396866 Well, the Kansas program and Wisconsin programs aren't quite on the same level right now. So it'll be interesting if he just wants another year of tutelage under Chucky Fupa, or to actually, you know, win.
  16. Crist is coming north. Especially if Chryst is still around.
  17. Stay away from heart of Lincoln Park/Lakeview and you're fine Loop isn't bad as long as you aren't in it during working hours
  18. yes it was. I do not like when officials swallow the whistle because it is late, so I am going to stay consistent with that now. That being said I have always thought that football should have a penalty against flopping. I was shocked that Wisconsin went for it on the Duckworth play. Reflecting back, I think Wilson being able to keep plays alive with his mobility is the main reason Wisconsin won. Well that and several mental errors by MSU. It was fitting the refs played a role in how this game finished up, seeing as how the previous game ended by overturning the call on the field.
  19. I know Wisconsin has QB issues beyond Wilson, but I think Crist would just add numbers to those issues, not solve any. None of our current QBs should play, but we have Bart Houston (#4 QB) coming in as a true freshman. I don't like playing true freshman, so I'd be good having a 2nd Dayne and a 2nd Chryst for a year and getting a year for Houston to ground his feet. BB has said he's already received 10 transfer applications, a notable uptick due to RW.
  20. heart.....head....hurt...... See above. It was textbook running into the kicker. Having said that, this was a replay of the game earlier in the year. Badgers own first and last 5 min, MSU everything inbetween. This time, the ball bounced to Duckworth, instead of Nichol.
  21. Our ball chucking offense didn't allow us to get inside and draw fouls. I know they had Zeller and Hanson down there, but fouls were 21-12 and FTA 24-6 in favor of UNC. We won't get any helps from the refs by just standing at the arc. I know we were purposefully slowing down the game and only really having 1 or 2 guys offensive rebound to allow 3 to get back, but in our best stretch (early in the 2nd) we had Berggren slashing, Evans offering up some post moves, and Brust with a mid-range jumper or two. Oh well. Good game overall. Probably helped people's view of Wisconsin in the big picture. Great learning experience for our young team to play that tight of a game in that environment. And heck, at least we did better @ UNC than Duke did @ OSU. As for the age old Wisconsin doesn't have talent debate: It's the same as football. There's a reason the guys who run the recruiting websites are the ones handing out stars, instead of coaching or playing themselves. I'll trust Bo to decide who he thinks has talent and can coach that person to be a better player to make his team better, no matter the stars.
  22. DD lives in Wheaton in the off-season. Probably helped on negotiating terms.
  23. I'm revising my prediction. UNC will keep it close. 36-35 Wisconsin.
  24. Order me a double, Bukie. I don't see us winning in CH. We just don't have the strength in the front court. I hope I'm wrong. 36-34 Bucky.
  25. Am I late to the Illinois-Minnesota parade?!?
