how many more seasons are we going to play the "if we just get free agents X, Y and Z" scenario? nobody good wants to play for the cubs right now. let alone MULTIPLE guys that are good.

yeah, in theory it's a great plan to lose 95 games/firesell every year and accumulate draft picks/prospects and then have all those prospects get good at the same time you sign a bunch of good free agents in one offseason and lookie there you're a 100 win team. in reality that appears to be a pretty tough sell to free agents.

$25 million/yr should buy a pretty good FA pitcher next year. yeah except nobody wants to come play for theo epstein's personal science project/dumpster fire. he could also cure cancer which would be great PR for the team.

the yankees near-term looks iffy at best and long term looks horrific. if his advisers steered him that way based on an opportunity to win, they're not very good. yeah the cubs and their yearly firesale in an effort to get high draft picks just scream WINNERS.
