  1. two seasons are lost so i'm pretty much on board with the "hope our top 6 prospects all pan out" plan because they've kinda painted themselves into that corner. i mean, there's no going back to rescue the last two seasons and now the propsects that could help are getting close. though, man, if baez and bryant and soler are busts...this franchise is in some serious trouble.
  2. two years ago the pirates lost 90 games. now they have one of the best records in baseball. don't know why everyone seems to think it takes 7 years to turn a team around.
  3. so you shouldn't spend big now because then you wouldn't be able to spend big later...but when it's later should you spend big? because what if you want to spend big later later? also, there were more good years between 2005 and 2011 than there have been the last two years, that's for sure.
  4. there's obviously risk in spending big money to get ANY player. just as there is risk in betting on prospects to pan out. i guess the risk in the spending scenario is money, while the risk in the prospects scenario is a terrible team.
  5. he doesn't say "never," i'll give you that. maybe when they're going to try to be good again in 3 years or whatever, they'll be in on a big free agent.
  6. I infer that the quote is referring to throwing millions around in the IFA market and accepting the penalties to "monopolize" that market. I don't really mind if they don't do much on the position player side of things this winter. However, I really want them to add one more potential stud to the pitching staff. Tanaka seems like a perfect fit -- if we can afford him. i infer it to mean exactly what he says...that they aren't going to spend hundreds of millions on free agents. which means they'll never sign an elite free agent (if such a thing even exists anymore), which means boy i hope baez/soler/almora/bryant are good.
  7. We're going to win the World Series with a payroll under 50 million. you get two trophies for that
  8. k for vogelbach in his first ab. johnson with 4 k's thru 3 shutout innings.
  9. omg with the rainout jokes.

    Week 20

there hasn't been a hard and fast rule as to when a guy had to be un-DLed. there is now (7 days). there hasn't been a hard and fast rule as to the penalty for when a guy isn't properly un-DLed. there is now. (that player is dropped). i didn't dock points for HBC leaving guys on the DL for 7 days, so i'm not being inconsistent in not docking myself points for leaving a guy on the DL for 4 days. the end. if you want to continue posting gigantic posts about an issue that literally has no effect on your matchup or your season, go for it.

except there is no "rule" about when you have to get a un-DLed guy activated, nor is there a "rule" about docking points if you don't immediately activate a guy, and there sure as [expletive] isn't a "rule" that you lose points if you fail to activate a guy approximately 24 hours after he is activated in real life, as is the case with perez. in that thread you somehow dug out during the course of your intensive probing investigation, i said the following: and i also didn't dock HBC points whenever you bitched about him keeping guys DL'ed too long, so it's not like i'm being inconsistent here. we've never ruled lineups to be illegal/subject to point docking if there is a DL hold over.
  12. you have 7 days to remove a player from your DL once he has been removed from the major league DL. if you fail to remove the player by that time, he will be dropped from your roster.

being commissioner of this league is its own penalty.

if i went back and took away everyone's points for instances where they left a guy on the DL a couple days too long, everyone would have zero points for the season except for the best boy scout in the troop, MR. next year we'll establish a rule where if you leave a guy on the DL for too long (say, seven days), you just lose that guy. easier than trying to figure out how many points to dock.

    Week 20

i'm not taking away any of my points for perez being on the DL ONE [expletive] EXTRA DAY and for estrada being on my DL four extra days. i actually intended to drop estrada today not realizing there were early monday games. if anyone has a problem with that they can take over the league. holy [expletive].
  16. yeah, i'm certainly fine with him being in the 20s somewhere. not claiming he should be in the top 10 or anything. i just specifically see him as much more valuable than the glut of 4th OF/5th OF types that some people had ranked in the 20s. like i said earlier, if we traded him for somebody else's szczur, wouldn't we all be disappointed? i know i would.
  17. not trying to be a dick, and i realize we're just whining over something stupid like prospect rankings, but i'll rethink my positioning on szczur if he hits well ever, anywhere.
  18. To me, I've got Szczur in the 17-22 range right now and Rosscup outside my top 30. I think a 4th OFer is slightly more valuable than a LOOGY. Rosscup shouldn't be relegated to LOOGY status already. that too.
  19. To me, I've got Szczur in the 17-22 range right now and Rosscup outside my top 30. I think a 4th OFer is slightly more valuable than a LOOGY. i guess i think a really good loogy is much more valuable than a blah 4th OF. i think a loogy of rosscup's caliber (assuming his minor league numbers translate) is a lot harder to find than a 4th OF of szczur's potential caliber.
  20. yes, but i don't think i saw him on many top 30 lists.
  21. obviously he's a reliever which puts a pretty hard cap on what he can give you, but i'm surprised rosscup isn't higher on people's prospect lists. i mean, we'd all be furious if he was traded for some other organization's szczur/ha, right?
  22. The discusssions over whether trading Torreyes for $800k in IFA space, which ended up meaning just $800k in cash, was good value, turned into discussions over what Torreyes would get on the open market as an FA. I pointed to Rivero as a 25-year-old middle reliever getting rocked (at the time) at Kane County who got four times that on the open market. ah i guess it was 800k then. my bad. regular felix and oscar over here.
  23. sorry guys i'll stop...i don't want to ruin all kyle's advanced analysis.
  24. but what is his k rate, you know? like in the grand scheme of things.
