  1. yeah, because hollandsworth, neifi, macias and rusch have been sooooo consistent this year.
  2. more good stuff. sounds like he's getting it pretty good from the media about playing the kids... yeah, his sub-.300 obp has been HUGE for the cubs this year. thank the heavens he's been around to play below average baseball...where would we be w/o st. neifi?? he continues to use this 'gotta win games' line as if playing the youngsters guarantees a loss and playing the veterans guarantees a win. here's the thing...you've been playing the vets all year, and you're fighting w/ cincinnati for fifth place. you haven't won all year with these scrubs, why do you think it's gonna happen now? and doesn't this contradict his statements about how september call ups will perform better than normal because no one has a book on them? so if that's the case, and you want to win games...shouldn't they play?
  3. I'll be there tomorrow and possibly Wed., they did pass out free tickets as we were leaving tonight for Wednesday's game. Free tickets? Wow. Beloit, WI. General admission on a Wednesday Night, there was probably about 1,000 maybe 1500 max. there tonight. Part of the reason why I like going to Beloit, plus I sit in the reserved area regardless. i'm the same way. in des moines, i can pay $6 to sit 40 rows up down the lf line sandwiched in between 25 sweaty drunks, or i can pony up $10 and sit in the second row behind home plate. it's worth the extra $4. thanks for the report.
  4. i was afraid we were going to see the kerry wood debacle after he was used in a pointless game two days before shoulder surgery. good stuff.
  5. that hit by cedeno didn't count. the marlins didn't have a 'book' on him yet, so it's unfair to give him credit for the hit. that's why you can't judge rookies late in the season. duh.
  6. this has to just kill dusty. he's probably begging hendry to sign armando rios so he can continue to stick one of his guys out in lf. trading hollandsworth and shutting wood down...hendry may be realizing that he has to take some decisions out of dusty's hands.
  7. he's not lying about the chicken. when i went to a chiefs game this summer, i was at the concession stand and i looked over and there he was...getting chicken. :D
  8. top 3 get in. HBC and buddiga split, and buddiga has a 150+ points advantage on HBC. so HBC needs a buddiga loss (and a HBC win), OR if buddiga wins (and HBC wins), HBC needs to outscore buddiga by a bundle.
  9. did raw and bb tie this week?
  10. hate to be the one to break it to you....but only the top 3 teams in each division make the playoffs. i thought... the way i see it -- and i may be totally wrong -- tootie has clinched the #1 spot in our division (and a first round bye). w/ my win, i clinched the #2 spot (because i have the tie breaker edge in points and head to head w/ both you and buddiga). so the last spot is between you and buddiga. assuming you both win this week, you'll be tied for third. first tie breaker is head to head, and you guys split. next tie breaker is points...and buddiga's up 150ish on you there. so, i think you should be pulling pretty hard for him to lose...or for you to outscore him by more than 150 points this week. someone please correct me if i'm wrong...
  11. i think so.
  12. baker can't say enough lately about how much he doesn't like youngsters... also, i'm guessing cedeno's huge clutch hit today didn't count because the marlins didn't have 'a book' on him yet. if they did, they would have undoubtedly retired him.
  13. i have to say, it doesn't sound like raw can get in, and i'm not too disappointed to be missing a two start week from pedro.
  14. Yep. Harry's Budcrew and Buddiga are 1-1 in the season series, so if there is a tie it goes to points. Currently, Buddiga holds a 188 pt edge in total points. Who do you want to play in Rd 1 ? hard to say. you would have seven starts (w/ suppan and vazquez getting two). i think HBC would have seven as well (w/ morris and lackey getting two). i'm just glad i won't have to run into a two start week from either of you guys' studs (willis and zito for you, z for HBC)...especially since i'm out sheets for the rest of the season. your offense scares me with sheff, arod, ortiz and griffey. HBC has cabrera, delgado and a surging victor martinez. i like my pen over both of your guys', and i'm hoping that they pick up the slack for my mediocre rotation.
  15. so w/ this win, i've clinched a playoff spot...right? if i lose next week, and hbc and buddiga win, there will be a three way tie. but i'd get in because i'm 4-0 against those two teams and have a points advantage on both of them...right?
  16. murton > cedeno???? come on, nsbb, we're better than that! cedeno has a higher average, a higher slugging %, and the same obp. throw in that cedeno's younger, plays a tougher position and has had more success at a higher level. sham!
  17. All this helps to balance out that Sheets is down for the year? i just want to make the playoffs. with sheets being out, i can use that as my excuse if i don't win. :D
  18. the hou/la game tonight has been huge for me. oswalt inexplicably pitched like [expletive], so that means no w, no qs and probably a loss for him. plus, it should mean no points from lidge. plus kent went deep. i should be up 40+ going into tomorrow...i have weaver and westbrook going, tootie has washburn.
  19. hmm...i liked dubois for a near .400 obp a lot better than dubois for yankee leftovers. if dusty continues to insist on sitting murton, release hollandsworth. shut wood down while you're at it, please.
  20. the cubs haven't done [expletive] all year w/ risp and two outs...but they figure it all out when vargas is one out from a QS....thanks, dicks. i hate the cubs.
  21. great ab, barrett. thru three innings against a wild rookie making his first career start at wrigley, and the cubs have already swung at two 3-0 pitches. nice.
  22. I think we saw enough of Hill to know he wasn't ready and needed another pitch or two. 04/04 - 08/24 IP H R ER BB K HR PC BB/9 K/9 HR/9 WHIP ERA Rusch 106.7 126 54 50 43 87 10 1907 3.63 7.34 0.84 1.58 4.22 Hill 21.0 24 20 20 13 21 3 426 5.57 9.00 1.29 1.76 8.57 you must be very perceptive to know such things about hill based on 21 innings. by the way, hill has had three dominating starts since he was sent down. rusch's three starts since then have been...um...not dominating.
  23. that is a really surprising lineup. baker is essentially saying he'd rather have nomar play out of position AND play cedeno than have nomar at his normal spot and macias at third. a pretty strong cedeno > macias statement, actually.
  24. i agree...her chart clearly shows that hill > gallagher. :D better control, a lot more k's, just as hard to hit. plus he jumped two levels, negating any concerns that he was too old for his level. also, hill's last start (cg, 7 ip, 7 h, 1 er, 1 bb, 7 k's, w) is not included in her chart. so you win lovers should not that he has 11 wins even though he spent time w/ the big league club.
