  1. I hate to break this to you, but after yesterday's games they have the exact same OPS... I think his point includes durability. I know, I was just pointing out that Nomar has been just as productive as Furcal this season when he's been in the lineup. (Despite his slow start and horrific injury.) Looking forward I'm not too concerned with Nomar's health. He's had a rough last couple of years, but more often than not in his career he's been able to put together a full season's worth of AB. Given that he's almost certain to take a cheap/heavily incentived contract this offseason I think he makes a lot more sense than Furcal does. If he's healthy that's great; we should have a very productive shortstop at realtively low cost. If not, Cedeno looks like he'll be at least a serviceable starter in the majors. Either way I like it better than making a huge committment to average production by inking Furcal. Oh, I agree completely. My preference is to go with a MIF of Nomar/Walker with Cedeno as the primary backup in place of Neifi. seconded. i'm also starting to come around and accept murton as the starting lf.
  2. I bet you'd also want to strike my all-important fifth win, which raises my winning percentage above .200. :D yes. but you can count it on your own personal standings.
  3. db coopers v. nsbb: only six starts for db this week with eaton being the only guy to double up...both of his starts come in good pitcher's parks. only three of his offensive guys have six game weeks, but all three of his relievers do. no huge hitter's park advantages for his guys, but he's got a bunch of games in texas. cy elarton looks to put up his second consecutive 35+ point week. nsbb gets seven starts, including two from carpenter. and since the book isn't out on cain yet, nsbb is throwing him out there in the heat of the playoff race. and of course the big decision was whether to throw bonds out there, and it looks like nsbb will at the expense of a gimpy damon or guillen. nsbb also showing some confidence in the rookie gomes, who i deeply regret trading to him at this point. no huge park factors here, but abreu and chipper get four games in CBP. galesburg v. tootielicious: ghs was fortunate to advance to this round. and i'm willing to bet that tootie is as happy about ghs winning as i am since would have had to face a 10 start tornado from buddiga this week. eight starts for ghs, but, as usual, most of them are from below average-average pitchers. ghs gets a host of arlington park games from tejada, blalock and teix (though tejada and blalock have been nothing special of late) and some MMP/miller park games from lee and overbay. only six starts for tootie, with glavine pulling double duty. he also pulls a tough draw w/ prior facing the cardinals. ramirez remains on the sidelines for tootie. andruw jones is on a tear, and four games in CBP should do nothing to slow that down. all three of his relievers have seven game weeks.
  4. The last place team in the East did beat the 6th place team in the West by almost 80 points, though. :D I noticed these non-games are actually reflected in the league standings. NSBB is now shown with a 22-1 record. :( i second the :( ...that should be stricken from the record.
  5. why do you have to 'blow' money? that's insane...especially if the objective is to keep neifi off the field. how about you just don't sign neifi? there, you just saved $2.5 mil to keep perez off the field instead of spending $30 mil. fine, he's above average (compared to other ss)...but when you compare him to guys that will get 4-5 year contracts, i'd say he's average. in other words, he's not worth what he'll get. why invest 30 mil+ and 4-5 years in a guy who can be outproduced by a cheaper nomar, who can then possibly replaced by cedeno at less than a million in 2006? you'd be wasting the cubs' top position prospect and spending $30 mil to get furcal. if you'd be wasting cedeno and spending tons of cash while getting arod or tejada for ss, fine...but furcal isn't that good.
  6. even better when you consider that cain's two-hitter doesn't count since the cubs don't have a book on him. can we even be happy that they're winning? say they finish at or slightly above .500...doesn't that just make them think everything's fine?
  7. and it looks like stewart has been taken out of the game. i gotta say, i've had some bad luck this season (2nd highest point total in the league, but needing a tie breaker to get in + having the 2nd highest point allowed in the league), but my luck has been nothing but remarkably good against you. in a regular season game, ayala had come in and pitched a scoreless inning in the sunday night game, cementing a victory for you. but then he went back out for a second inning and fell apart, and i ended up winning by a very small margin. then, this week, you lose sheff and griffey (two of your huge bats), and then ortiz and biggio take sunday off. now, you did get a ridiculous five save week out of dempster, but still i'd have to say i had the advantage luck-wise. PLUS, two teams screw with their rotation...giving me an extra start and taking one away from you. then your last hope is taken out after five innings in a blowout loss. and i'm obviously not trying to rub it in by typing it all out like that...i'm just trying to say i feel your pain, and i know i was very, very fortunate to win this week...assuming my math is right and i really am on top... **** Gardenhire. yep. it was a good battle and i got screwed by several organizations. had the Yankees not kept everyone in the dark on the Sheffield injury I might have been able to make a lineup change there, but it's not to be. good luck against Tootielicious. he's probably wiping his brow avoiding the 10-start monster! :) yeah, that would have been tough to overcome. i'm lucky in that he doesn't have a two start week from prior, oswalt or colon.
  8. it's going to come down to Stewart's last ab, hopefully 2. he is 1-3, 2 k tonight for 0.5 pts. The score is 260-252. I think your total is around 257-258 for the week, so unless Stewart hits a HR or the equivalent thereof, Buddiga will lose. it would be brutal to lose a potential 10 start week. special thanks to the D-Backs organization for [expletive] Team Buddiga. and it looks like stewart has been taken out of the game. i gotta say, i've had some bad luck this season (2nd highest point total in the league, but needing a tie breaker to get in + having the 2nd highest point allowed in the league), but my luck has been nothing but remarkably good against you. in a regular season game, ayala had come in and pitched a scoreless inning in the sunday night game, cementing a victory for you. but then he went back out for a second inning and fell apart, and i ended up winning by a very small margin. then, this week, you lose sheff and griffey (two of your huge bats), and then ortiz and biggio take sunday off. now, you did get a ridiculous five save week out of dempster, but still i'd have to say i had the advantage luck-wise. 9. We would be stacked. stacked? i don't know that murton will be that much better than burnitz in his first full season. then you'd basically be comparing the cubs' carousel of lf against furcal, and furcal would have an edge (though not a huge one) there. i don't want furcal.
  10. what a barn burner we have going here. i'm up 15, but my pitchers gave up 32 total bases (by my count). so the +7 from rogers QS will be negated and then some by that. plus, el duque's gonna get a loss here soon. i've got two ab's from tejada, three (?) from kent and one from burnitz left. you've got at least four from stewart tonight. the key is whether or not dempster can get his 16th save of the week today.
  11. good to see that people consider my posting to 'coming out of the woodwork'...i'm pretty sure that's not a compliment. :D but yes, it is ridiculous that hill hasn't seen any action. but there's no way baker's going to take rusch out of the rotation after his start in st. louis. much like neifi's hot month, that start will buy rusch a minimum of ten more starts.
  12. too bad murton can't hit righties.
  13. by the way, farns has a 1.06 era in 17 appearances with the braves. great trade, jim. and el duque's out after two innings. nice start, [expletive].
  14. yeah, you gotta be excited about getting two start weeks from prior and oswalt when it means nothing. not to mention an obscene week from andruw jones. [expletive], now farnsworth is going to get a save.
  15. I'll be around 20 points up heading into the final day, but you'll have a 3-0 starter advantage on me. It will all come down to how well those guys pitch for you. does it matter? Not really. didn't think so...i was wondering why everybody was making roster changes and stuff. great start for el duque -- three first inning homers.
  16. yeah, you gotta be excited about getting two start weeks from prior and oswalt when it means nothing.
  17. you have a 3 start advantage here on the final day down 22 points. if you get a QS from at least one of your guys, i think you'll win. Sheffield and Griffey's absence have killed this team... three start advantage? don't i only have a ONE start edge? johnson and el duque v. vazquez. and thank you, alan trammel, for taking johnson out after 5 innings and 68 pitches against the royals. that was the start i was needing 15 points out of. that's a big break for you... i'd be feeling a little better about things if shelton's good game wasn't being somewhat negated by monroe. i need vazquez to have a 1/3 ip, 6 h, 7 er start today in coors... You also have Kenny Rogers going today against the A's. The D'Backs have decided to go with a 6-man rotation, and are holding Vasquez out until tomorrow. That'll help if I advance, but it does me no good as they apparently send R. Ortiz to the mound today. Oh, and Ortiz is out of the lineup against Unit today in the Sox-Yankees showdown. wow, that's quite the turn of events. rogers is going on his normal rest, but they had an off day during the week, so i figured he wouldn't go til tomorrow. looks like the rangers skipped somebody while the dbacks added somebody. rogers sucks lately, but hopefully he can give me something. yeah, if i win the griffey and sheff injuries will be a major reason. and if you win the sheets injury and my bullpen's struggles will be a major reason. should be an exciting finish then. kent takes a lot of sundays off, so hopefully he can get that moustache groomed and get his ass on the field. [expletive], overbay's not playing today against oswalt.
  18. what the....? i just checked the scoreboard and rogers is starting today?? and vazquez isn't??
  19. you have a 3 start advantage here on the final day down 22 points. if you get a QS from at least one of your guys, i think you'll win. 20. I'll be around 20 points up heading into the final day, but you'll have a 3-0 starter advantage on me. It will all come down to how well those guys pitch for you. does it matter?
  21. I wouldn't mind that.........I'd like to see more points for relievers too. They really don't have much impact at all as of now. relievers have a huge impact. there have been numerous games that i've won this year because my pen puts up 30 points to the other guy's 5. my pen's the main reason i made the playoffs... and if you want to see a more current example of a pen having an impact, check out the buddiga/GHS matchup right now...my pen has been outscored roughly 36-4. and i'm losing by almost exactly 32.
  22. vargas is getting shelled and dempster seems to get about four saves a day. i'm starting to think this may be the end for the sanitizers...
  23. do you really think the difference between a 4th/5th place team and a world series contender is the defense at ss?
  24. Since the Cubs have Pie, Giles. However, we shouldn't get our hopes up for Giles, Damon or Burnett. Now Furcal is a possibility. A slim one, but a lot of the big market teams have good SS's, so maybe the Cubs get lucky. nomar's better than furcal...especially when you consider that nomar will be cheaper, possibly more productive and a short-term replacement. if you sign furcal, it's going to be for at least four years, so you might as well trade cedeno. IF Nomar healthy (HUGE IF), he's a better hitter. No doubt. His defense is awful though. Hopefully, the Cubs look @ the future for a change, and sign Furcal. Put Nomah @ 2b, w/ Hairston as the backup. i'm not convinced that nomar + furcal is better than nomar + walker. especially when you consider the huge contract furcal is going to get. Bring back Nomar to play SS and the likelihood of Neifi returning is a lot higher. Bring in Furcal and the Cubs shouldn't have to worry about someone going down for 80 games. giving 30+ mil to an average ss is a pretty stupid way to go about keeping neifi perez off the field.
  25. who would that BP help be? i'm not about to trade a cheap, productive 2b and a cheap rookie whose value is at its peak for some flash in the pan set up guy who had one good season. even guys like remlinger and hawkins, who have had multiple good seasons out of the pen haven't panned out for the cubs. bullpen guys' numbers are so dependent on a small amount of innings, i just don't trust spending or trading big for a 7th/8th inning guy.
