  1. normally, i would wonder why comments like this don't get you banned. but then you say stuff like... ...and i realize that comedy like that just can't be replaced. yes, lets change the subject now after you realize you misunderstood the question, "Do you wish you would have had that surgery sooner than August 31?" nice devil advocate label tho. pot meet kettle. thanx for doing the interview kerry. :) man, you're obnoxious. i did misunderstand the question. but that doesn't change the fact that wood should not be the guy who decides when he has surgery. frankly, i don't care what wood said. his comment proves nothing that you've said throughout this entire thread. quit acting like it proves you right or something.

  3. i thought he was saying he was glad that he didn't finish out the season, and that having surgery then (as opposed to waiting til the end of the season) was the right decision. wow, the cubs are even dumber than i thought if wood was the guy calling the shots.
  4. welp, looks like you'll have to find a different issue to play devil's advocate about. i'm sure you'll find something.
  5. i thought this was going to be some kind of 'statement' move...and it was. the statement was that they needed another guy so they could go three deep for 4x100 relays. fastest team ever???
  6. i like the guy who says that the decision to have wood pitch out of the pen last year was the 'prudent and wise' choice. then two pages follow which just rip his sad little claim apart, and he is just oblivous to it all, rattling off imaginary [expletive] about howry and throwing in a couple things about matt lawton (?!). welp, if no one says otherwise, i guess i'm just right.
  7. And the funny thing is, I will only stick to my guns until someone can poke holes in the logic surrounding their decision. sarcasm? No, honesty. I mean it. I didn't base my opinion of this move on anything other than the logic at the time the decision was made. To base it on anything else, anything including any hindsight would be unfair. If someone can engage the facts and logic that I have laid out and show how it is either incomplete or faulty, I will gladly alter my opinion. dude, that's all the last two pages of this thread is. there were TONS of people who said it was a bad idea last year when it was going on, so it's not hindsight. i started to respond to each one of your 'points' and then i get to stuff about matt lawton and what if's involving players that weren't on the team last year, and i realized that you're either stubbornly grasping at straws or just trolling. either way, i decided it wasn't worth it.

  9. interesting, though not surprising. as i've said before, teams seem to just be killing him inside because he can't pull anything w/ any authority. the majority of his hits are bunts to the left side or slaps past a drawn in 3b, so it makes no sense to pitch him outside...you'd just be playing to his (few) strengths.
  10. his defense is not good. then he's dead to me.
  11. fast + good defense = :thumright:
  12. the frigid conditions in san diego have limited pierre to an 0-13 in the series. :cold:
  13. ? so a sac bunt leads to a run more often in 7-6 games than it does in 7-5 games? are you kidding me? how does the sac bunt know if it's a one run game or not? there's so much about baseball cosmos that i don't understand...
  14. yeah, sandberg's in the hall because of his bunting prowess.
  15. it's may 7th, and wood hasn't pitched in a big league game b/c his rehab was delayed. i can't see how that makes the decision a wise one.
  16. come on...you know i can't do that. :D
  17. get over it, dude. in response to my post regarding the stupidity of wood's handling last year... so, naturally, i couldn't resist this in a different thread... in a way, i'd like to see him banned. but if you did that, it'd only complete his matyrdom, so i'd rather just keep him around so he can continue to make an ass of himself.
  18. To those who gave up on the season in July, this move by the Cubs seems like a terrible one. I understand completely. It wasn't a high percentage play, but it also wasn't completely out of the realm of possibility that the Cubs could've gone a streak or the Astros lost 8 out of 10. Even though the chances weren't great, I appreciate that those in charge of actually winning baseball games didn't give up when you did. Baseball is a funny game. Strange things happen. Keeping yourself open to that possibility is a wise thing to do when you are in charge of winning games, don't you think? Or would you suggest a form of moderate pessimism is the better way to go? if the cubs were going to make up that kind of ground it wasn't going to be because they got a new set up man that could throw one scoreless inning three times a week. regardless of whether you thought the cubs were in the race or not, the risk (wood getting hurt again or being delayed in 2006) so far outweighed any potential benefit (a set up guy who could throw three good innings a week), that it was a stupid move.
  19. THANK GOODNESS he pitched in relief last year even though it meant he missed the first month plus of 2006. TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. there's a consolation championship?
  21. i don't know why anyone would ever pitch pierre away. he can't turn on anything inside with the slightest bit of authority, and the only hits he gets are bunts don't the 3rd base line or somewhat sharply hit ground balls past a drawn in 3b. i'd bust him in all day long, and, given the number of 4-3's he's racked up this season, that's what teams are doing.
  22. crap...sheets is missing a start b/c of shoulder stiffness. good thing NSBB's hitting like .150 this week b/c my nine starts turned into seven, and a few of those were negative. more importantly, my staff is falling apart. come back, roger!
  23. that guy at the convention feels pretty smart right now.
