  1. please don't bunt. this is victor santos, not roger clemens.
  2. that seems pretty stupid. you should be happy he got the call and not Warlond or something crazy like that :D oh believe me, i'm happy he's up. i just don't want him to get messed up by relieving tonight, have a bad start thursday and find himself back to AAA.
  3. may want to proofread that bad boy.
  4. i'm fine w/ any lineup that doesn't include neifi. i'd rather barrett bat ahead of murton and jones, but whatever.
  5. geez, the mirabelli love on espn is out of control. i half expected every member of the red sox to french kiss him in the dugout. i hope he has like six passed balls tonight.
  6. racist! if he were white, you'd be clamoring for him to get some sort of monetary reward.
  7. hill's the last guy you should cite to for someone that's been given a lot of slack/received preferential treatment. that being said, williams should be ahead of rusch.
  8. some real good matchups this week, including... GHS v. NSBB: matchup of last year's championship...only met once last regular season, and it was during the shortened all star break week (nsbb won). GHS has nine starts this week (to nsbb's five)...question is, how many of them will net positive points? buddiga v. lynx: another 4-0 v. 3-1 matchup. both teams have a bunch of starts. SofS v. quakers is an interesting one too. quakers looks to go 4-1, while SofS tries to stay with the top 3 in the east.
  9. they're having a one hour special on espn news right now. the analysts can't believe all the hype surrounding mirabelli (apparently the yankees tried to get involved to prevent him from going to boston). they're saying things like 'isn't this going overboard even for these teams?' and 'he's just a backup catcher.' this coming from a station presenting an overboard one hour tribute (complete with interviews w/ GMs, broadcasters, and former players and live footage of the players stretching) for just a may 1st game featuring two teams that play each other 20 times this year. hard to imagine they can't see the irony.
  10. He wasn't negotiating against himself? I thought he signed Glendon before Glendon talked to any other teams. so he negotiated against himself for lee too? there was a market for rusch, he just didn't let him test it. market for lee> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > market for rusch
  11. so would that be 'old' carlos or 'new' carlos?
  12. i don't think anybody other than hendry would have given him 2/$5 before this season. and given the disaster that has been his month of april, i double-doubt someone would give him that $ now.
  13. of course they would. and the cubs are also going to have a hard time contending w/o lee. but they're also going to have a hard time contending with a black hole in rf, rusch in the rotation, wood on the shelf, and having a complete lack of plate discipline. but the focus will be on lee's injury. just like st. louis would put the focus on pujols being hurt. so you don't like the way they're addressing the starting pitching? if not, what do you prefer? I don't totally buy that they would put the focus on Pujols being out. Last year the were without Rolen, and Larry Walker wasn't 100% either but you didn't see the Cards start making excuses, they just plugged someone in and kept on going. I know that Pujols is much better than Rolen and that they didn't have to make excuses because they won. But that is the whole thing, they have good management who seems to find the right pieces to plug into their lineup and get the job done. We have Dusty "Dude" Baker, and a GM who constructed a roster that had no contigency plan in place should someone go down. pujols >>> rolen. also, take away carpenter and whoever their #3 pitcher is. suppan?? marquis?? i guess the cubs could have built up the rotation by signing millwood, byrd or weaver, but then the complaints would be about wasting money. the rotation is the least of my concerns right now (especially if rusch gets the boot). the bench, rf, cf, and a general lack of concern for plate discipline are problems that will be ignored b/c any lack of success this season will be attributed to lee's injury.
  14. the only thing that would make me more mad than hill not getting called up at all would be hill getting called up to take aardsma's spot in the pen, leaving rusch in the rotation.
  15. of course they would. and the cubs are also going to have a hard time contending w/o lee. but they're also going to have a hard time contending with a black hole in rf, rusch in the rotation, wood on the shelf, and having a complete lack of plate discipline. but the focus will be on lee's injury. just like st. louis would put the focus on pujols being hurt. so you don't like the way they're addressing the starting pitching? if not, what do you prefer? i'd have preferred rusch to have never sniffed the roster, let alone the rotation. and i'd like to see wood in the rotation now, even if it meant he didn't get to pitch meaningless innings out of the pen last year.
  16. of course they would. and the cubs are also going to have a hard time contending w/o lee. but they're also going to have a hard time contending with a black hole in rf, rusch in the rotation, wood on the shelf, and having a complete lack of plate discipline. but the focus will be on lee's injury.
  17. i don't get all this talk about wanting the 'old zambrano' back. what's the difference between this zambrano and the 'old zambrano'? new zambrano busts bats over his knees, throws his arms up in the air when a teammate screws up, and acts like just as much of an ass as old zambrano. only difference i can see is that 'new' zambrano sucks at pitching.
  18. ...behind, of course, the fact that the cubs' best player is going to miss two months... ...is that the cubs already have a built in excuse in case they don't contend this year. instead of being forced to admit/address the mistakes they've made, we'll just hear about how tough it was to contend w/o lee. their shortcomings won't be because they gave a below average jacque jones a ridiculous 3 year deal. it won't be because they gave rusch two years and a spot in the rotation. it won't be because they totally bungled wood's bullpen experiment last year. it won't be because they finished dead last in the NL in walks. it won't be because baker is an incompetent in game manager. nope, it'll be because lee was hurt. and he'll be healthy and ready to go at the start of 2007, so no changes will be made.
  19. so you're disappointed that rusch is out of the rotation? i don't care if the rotation is vets, kids, or women, i'd just like to see someone not give up a hr every other inning. he really wasn't as bad as his #'s would lead you to believe. he had two really bad starts (1 1/3 ip, 7 runs and 3 ip, 6 runs) that really skew his numbers, but he also had a stretch of 15+ innings where he allowed just four runs. i hope the cubs have a little patience with him. oh, and about friggin' time. :D
  20. i thought it was really shameless how the striking umps used the delmon young situation.
  21. actually, bob, it wouldn't have been extra bases because hairston didn't run.
