  1. a team in contention doesn't need inning eaters. that's about the lamest attribute a guy can bring any team, actually. They do if they have a weak bullpen. that's gonna have to be a really weak bullpen if you'd rather throw a guy with a 4.70 era out there for an extra inning instead of going to the pen. i've just never understood the fascination with inning eaters. can't anyone be an inning eater if quality is irrelevant?

  3. in a heartbeat. i gotta think maddux is staying. i don't see any way that the dodgers are that crazy, and hendry's foolish stubborness will keep him from dealing maddux for nothing.
  4. so....i guess i'm putting all my guys on waivers???
  5. why's that? just because you say it? he's got a decent whip, but he's got a 4.70 era, and his era is well over 6 since april...that's fifth starter material.
  6. Glad to be of service. :D much appreciated! the bulbs put up a good fight as well...fourth highest point total in the league this week. but i'm finally starting to get some good starting pitching, and my bullpen outscored his 35 to -3. i now have the top three RP in the league!
  7. man, hendry is dreaming if he thinks he's going to get something good for a borderline 5th starter. it'd be just like the cubs to keep throwing maddux out there for the rest of the season for senimental reasons.
  8. wow, great week for me. that three way tie is broken w/ losses for buddiga and HBC (assuming points don't change too drastically over night). not only that, but i racked up 370 points on the week, gaining about 100 points on both buddiga and HBC, which could be huge for tiebreakers. oh, and i traded for the #1 2b and the #2 3b. :D
  9. i don't get the 'might as well keep him' idea. what possible benefit can come from him staying? even if the cubs give him away, at the very least it opens a rotation spot for hill/guzman. nothing can be gained by keeping him.
  10. inserted glaus 3b after my trade. i think i'm finally out of trading chips now...it's been a busy month of trading for me!
  11. the nats just ph for soriano in the 5th inning. granted, they're losing by 10 runs, but that still seems pretty strange...
  12. i would say that 1,100 of your 1,200 posts have been about hill becoming a relief pitcher.
  13. this is somewhat of a silver lining, i guess... of course, whether that happens or not remains to be seen.
  14. to me, the turning point in hill's night was the rolen ab. he had just come off a great 1st inning, and was ahead of rolen 1-2 (i believe). rolen fouled off a couple pitches (including barely nicking a decent curve) before walking. if he had gotten rolen out of the way, things may have been differnt.
  15. of course not. but hill's future major league success is as tied to maddux's early success as it is to scott ruffcorn's minor league numbers.
  16. if he has trouble thowing K's he should'nt be in the bigs Then every pitcher should be in the minors, they all have games where they struggle with the strike zone. Yeah, but Hill has not been consistent enough in the strike zone to stay in the big leagues. His minor league stats are so impressive though that you know it is mental. I'm pretty sure the guy can throw strikes, he just needs the confidence that he can go out there and get the job done. Just for kicks look up Scott Ruffcorn minor league stats... just for kicks look up greg maddux's 86 and 87 stats.
  17. he only threw a couple decent curves...both to duncan, i think. i agree though, w/o that curve i would have guessed that he would have given up more.
  18. oh, did i win the race to say that hill needs to be more like marshall who is talking to maddux in the dugout??!!!
  19. not a big deal...hill's had pinpoint control tonight. I realize you're being sarcastic, but what does your response have to do with my post?? i was agreeing with you. it was stupid to pitch out there...for the reasons you mention plus the fact that he hasn't had good command. and hill's probably thrown his last pitch as a cub.
  20. not a big deal...hill's had pinpoint control tonight.
  21. pitching out with a guy having trouble throwing strikes...
  22. rumor has it it may be back for one last season. and that's not how you wanted to start the inning, rich.
  23. i was making an effort to avoid this thread by watching the downstairs tv. the dancing show knocked me up to the den...and the computer. :D The dancing show? I wouldn't admit to that. my wife's watching the dancing show, not me. though i don't know if that makes it sound any better...
