  1. are you friggin' kidding me? i've been a punching bag for my support of hill over the past two seasons...he's probably been the most criticized player in the organization this side of neifi. it's taken every ounce of my strength to resist spending a couple hours digging up a bunch of hill quotes and posting them in a brand new thread. in conclusion, he's looked pretty good his last couple starts for a AAAA, one pitch lefty specialist.
  2. i'm pulling for you! by the way, fausto carmona: -23 points this week. ouch.
  3. if pierre would have continued to suck, i don't think the cubs would have brought him back. instead, he's pulling a mcgriff and he's probably earned an extension (in hendry's mind). it's too bad too, because the only way i can see the cubs having a respectable offense next year is to move jones to cf and get a big bat for one of the corners. a lineup with murton, pierre, cedeno and izturis is going to be awful.
  4. Let's put it this way - I think all of us learned who was to cover 2B on that play back in Little League. Cedeno has looked lost and timid lately, and the excuse about learning a new position doesn't hack it with me, this is very basic stuff any professional middle infielder should know by instinct. agreed. cut him.
  5. They mentioned earlier in the broadcast that since the Cubs have struggled against Duke, Clines is stressing patience with the Cub hitters. it's only taken a few years...pretty good.
  6. heh, cedeno's not even going to be on the team next year at this rate...
  7. that sounds like something joe morgan would say.
  8. at least one of those saves was when he entered the game in the 8th and allowed an inherited runner to score.
  9. what the hell have they been practicing the past couple days then?
  10. his performance tonight will be worth more win shares than izturis will provide in the next 1 1/4 seasons.
  11. Hendry actually said that? Sure did! Murphy mentioned how Oakland A's preaches OBP starting with the lowest levels on the minor leagues and why don't the Cubs. Hendry said if you look at the Stats Oakland is one of the worst in the league in OBP. what a perfect chance to say, "yeah, well you preach average with RISP and the cubs suck at that."
  12. dusty's so gonna blame this one on young starting pitching, completely ignoring the fact that the offense was terrible.
  13. heh, izturis looked legitimately confused after he got that walk.
  14. That's probably a good thing. for those not watching, they showed lee and blanco talking with marmol before the third (a 1, 2, 3 inning). apparently whatever rothschild said to marmol during their multiple conversations the first two innings didn't help as much as lee and blanco's advice.
  15. Is that for sure? that's what len said. How stupid can they get? oh, you just wait. it can get worse.
  16. heh, dlee's doing more work with marmol than rothschild is.
  17. so gooz only pitched one inning last night in case the cubs needed to bring him up soon...of course by pitching that one inning, he's probably not available until maybe saturday. and of course, you have the whole thing about how they couldn't get him to chicago by thursday even though he was in des moines on wednesday. well played, cubs, well played.
  18. len and bob say guzman was taken out in case the cubs needed him. could the cubs have handled this entire situation any worse? he's too far away in las vegas to make it to chicago to start thursday, but he's not too far away to start in des moines on wednesday. and then he pitches one inning wednesday in case he needs to pitch soon for chicago...even though by warming up and pitching an inning, he probably won't be able to throw again until saturday (?) at the earliest. so that one inning was pretty pointless. wow.
  19. how is brynes not a cub? speed? check. defense? who knows. hustle? and how. hard work? apparently...he's really dirty. hendry has to be licking his chops.
  20. good grief, could marmol ever use another full year in the minors. i've been saying for a while that he's due for a disaster start, so this isn't really a surprise.
  21. Yeah he was playing on the track. it hasn't been just today...i think len and bob have commented on it before. i'm just mad that he's played enough for anyone to even notice it.
  22. pagan plays the deepest lf i've ever seen.
  23. did anybody catch the bit on the colbert report about the walker trade? they were doing a bit where they take calls from "viewers" and one of the callers, who thought he was calling a sports talk show, started in about how the cubs were stupid to trade walker (though he was ok with them trading maddux). he even mentioned ceda by name and noted that walker had the second highest OBP on the team. that's right, even comedy central knows the value of OBP.
