  1. i love that those that like this trade are looking for izturis to regain his 2004 form -- when he posted a stellar .711 OPS. yeah, that's something to be excited about.
  2. oh boy, if the cubs get stuck with izturis and then re-sign maddux...i don't know what i'm going to do.
  3. it's no surprise that hendry continues to peddle this crap about how so and so won a gold glove or how so and so was the 5th best hitter with RISP among guys that struck out 100 times or how so and so was the best hitter on earth from june 6-june 10 in 1997. because some people actually buy into it. amazing, really.
  4. i love that the guy doesn't like neifi but he loves izturis...because they're such different players.
  5. didn't hendry say on the air last night that he refused a prospect deal?
  6. everyone wants to play for baker. look at all the elite FA's that have come to chicago at a discount.
  7. when i see people that actually believe the white sox won it using sac bunts, defense, hustle and speed, it doesn't surprise me one bit that some people love the izturis trade. or that hendry made the deal.
  8. if hendry truly passed on kemp to get izturis he is the laughingstock of baseball today.
  9. What? Out of 50 players who have played shortstop this year, Ronny is dead last in offensive production (measured by VORP). Last. He can only improve, but what are his chances of becoming a "standout" at a position in which more offensive production is expected? The point is they don't care about offense. It's manly to talk tough on defense, whereas offense if for pretty boys. Tough teams defend, and there's no better market than Chicago to play up the defense concept, regardless of the sport, or the relative value of defense in that sport. the cubs should sign ben wallace.
  10. as i said somewhere else, to make this offense passable, the cubs have to get soriano for 2b. you just have to live w/ the fact that the cubs don't care about OBP, so you have to hope they accidentally stumble upon the guy with the best SLG.
  11. i'm just glad our GM values hard work and other make believe intangibles over production.
  12. And probably the year after that... Izturis has to be thrilled. He's almost guaranteed to have his club option picked up for '08, when there is no chance the Dodgers would have taken it. Yes there was. The Dodgers loved him. they loved him so much they completely squeezed him out of their infield plans for this season by acquiring mueller and furcal.
  13. despite his shortcomings, the cubs probably need to get soriano for 2b if they want to contend. of course, his defense is supposed to be terrible, so hendry probably has no interest.
  14. That's not they said, but cough up cash to read the rest. Jeff Samardzija also made the list and Goldstein says that Cubs' fans should hope Samardzija play football well so the Cubs don't have to shell out the full amount of the deal. that may be true, but the way hendry's going, the less money he has to use (waste) the better.
  15. and all the negative people were proven to be so wrong by the complete success that is the 2006 season.
  16. best reason i've heard yet for the trade! downey also calls izturis a "beauty" and a "gem." he also says a shortstop like this doesn't come along every day and that the trade was "one of the Cubs' smartest manuvers of the century." wow.
  17. at least the cubs will have baseball's worst offensive middle infield to match baseball's worst offensive outfield. but, boy oh boy, will they catch the ball.
  18. don't worry everybody, plesac used the word "proven" 43 times in describing izturis. i don't know if that's "proven" as in "juan pierre's a proven leadoff hitter," but let's cross our fingers that it is.
  19. that's true, but i'd rather have two A ball prospects with 56.66 era's than have izturis' awful contract around the cubs' neck for 2007. and hendry's already pumped about having him around in '08.
  20. and to avoid a repeat of this season he traded for exactly the same type of player that he built this debacle around -- speedy, good D, low obp, no pop.
  21. nearly 9 mil for rusch, neifi and izturis next year. 9 mil gets you a good player.
  22. hendry turned down "high-level prospects" (that's plural) for a crummier, more expensive version of neifi. he's the laughing stock of baseball right now.
  23. well, sometimes you have to cut corners when you're a small market team. oh wait, we have the second highest payroll in the league.
  24. i love the fact that hendry says they discussed top prospects, but they said they needed them for lugo, so hendry just accepts that and takes a horrendous contract off their hands. what a pushover. top prospects or a guy with 6 mil left to pay and a career .678 OPS...same thing.
