  1. it's shocking that someone who actually believes this would get to such a high-ranking position in baseball.
  2. Prior is guranteed to start the season on the DL. Anything else you can guarantee? i don't know how many times we have to have this dicussion...if something happens once, it's a 100% probability that it will happen again. it's math, people.
  3. dusty is aware of the concept of air travel, no? guzman wouldn't have to ride a mule from las vegas to chicago. maybe guzman can pick him up a glove on his walk from las vegas.
  4. how in the holy hell did those guys remain on the field for so long before monday took the flag away? 2 down!
  5. i'm glad hill's going back out for the 7th, but i'm afraid dusty's going to leave him out there too long in the name of saving his bullpen (which is, of course, pointless) and he'll end up tiring and ending the outing on a bad note. at least he has the lower third coming up...
  6. the curve to strike out easley was unhittable.
  7. Not to change the topic, but isn't it incredible that his average increased this year 31 and 36 points from his previous two seasons, yet his OBP remained the same as '04 and dropped from last year? 14 walks on the season, which is obviously pathetic.
  8. he hasn't thrown all that many, but when he has thrown it, he's had better command of it than last time out. fb has been 89-92.
  9. that was a pop up. it must be really windy.
  10. Tell that to the White Sox who won a WS on Pitching and Defense. Their team BA was .262 with a .322 OBP and yet they managed to win a WS. they hit a crapload of homers. True..but they had 200 HR to our 194. They had a .262 AVG with a .322 OPB while we had a .270 AVG with a .324 OBP. So what was the difference between the two teams offensively? The difference must be in the clutch hitting because defense means very, very, very little. Honestly, that's the first time I've heard that Defense means very little in baseball. In fact it's crazy. You can go back to the 2004 Red Sox when they upgraded their defense they went on to a WS title. Defense is hugely important! I can't believe you really believe that? yeah, because that red sox team was TERRIBLE until they got doug m and cabrera.

  12. I think he can save us 30-40 runs a year on defense. He can make 4-5 extra outs per week, which will save us 1-2 runs a week. These will come from partly some balls that he can get to that other people cannot, and partly doing things like turning more double plays effectively when he gets the chance. I think 30-40 is on the high side, but whatever. How many runs would someone like Tejada get us over the course of a season with his offense? Hmm-well, I'd say again about 4-5 hits a week, but that will cause us to get 2-3 extra runs a week because some of those will be XBH, so more like 55-60 runs. The difference between the top 5 shortstops and everyone else offensively is too high to make up for the change in defense. first of all, no way he takes away 5 hits a week. that's crazy. second of all, i'd love to see a play where a shortstop takes away an extra base hit. Uh-the last one you quoted was Tejada's offense, which is where the XBH came into play. you're right...too many quotes...

  14. i love that those that like this trade are looking for izturis to regain his 2004 form -- when he posted a stellar .711 OPS. yeah, that's something to be excited about.
  15. oh boy, if the cubs get stuck with izturis and then re-sign maddux...i don't know what i'm going to do.
  16. it's no surprise that hendry continues to peddle this crap about how so and so won a gold glove or how so and so was the 5th best hitter with RISP among guys that struck out 100 times or how so and so was the best hitter on earth from june 6-june 10 in 1997. because some people actually buy into it. amazing, really.
  17. i love that the guy doesn't like neifi but he loves izturis...because they're such different players.
  18. didn't hendry say on the air last night that he refused a prospect deal?
  19. everyone wants to play for baker. look at all the elite FA's that have come to chicago at a discount.
  20. when i see people that actually believe the white sox won it using sac bunts, defense, hustle and speed, it doesn't surprise me one bit that some people love the izturis trade. or that hendry made the deal.
  21. if hendry truly passed on kemp to get izturis he is the laughingstock of baseball today.
