  1. saw that tim picked up miller off waivers. however...i picked up an andrew miller (listed as a detroit tiger) off the FA list a while back and included him in my troy glaus deal to severe tooterstorms. that transaction now shows up as... Blalock, Hank 3B TEX - Traded from Galesburg Hand Sanitizers Cano, Robinson 2B NYY - Traded from Galesburg Hand Sanitizers , - Traded from Galesburg Hand Sanitizers the miller i traded to ST has now turned into a comma. long story short, ST should probably be the rightful owner of andrew miller and not a comma.
  2. i'm so pissed that i dropped garza earlier this year. so pissed.
  3. perhaps my favorite thing about hill (besides his insane k rates) is his ability to (so far) stay remarkably healthy. hope i didn't just jinx him...
  4. i once saw an oakland player refuse a little kid's autograph request. stupid moneyball.
  5. you threw waaaaay to many pitches in the 1st inning (36)...going full on 4 batters...you walked 2 but escaped with the bases left loaded and you lead 1-0 after 1. and i really hate the money ball philosophy...these guys take Forever between pitches when hitting and pitching....put it in perspective...Kane County has played 30 9 inning games this year of 3 hours more...The Chiefs have played 4...and 3 of those at Kane County and none of those at home!! what chapter was that in?
  6. This year will be his career year. Next year will look more like 2005 than 2006. and you're basing this on....? He's 28 years old, and his #1 comp in PECOTA (with a very high score) is Joe Randa. His BABIP is quite high, indicating that he won't keep hitting for such a high average, but to be fair, his line drive percentage is very good, so it's not like he's just hitting seeing eye grounders. I'd love to see him do well, and it's possible that he's just a late bloomer, but if I had to bet, I'd bet against it. true, but he's always had very good minor league numbers. outside of 44 games last year in AAA, he's hit at or above .300 at every stop.
  7. It might get old, but it's pretty hard to find an informed observer who approves of the way Baker handles pitchers, especially young pitchers. Its not just Dusty and the way he handles pitchers. Its acquiring Izturis. Its Hendry. Its almost every single thing someone from BP writes that mentions the Cubs. They can't say something positive without having some cynical attack in there as well. Its rather unprofessional, if you ask me. yeah, it's hard to believe they can find a way to criticize an organization with a 95 mil payroll that has been 30 games under .500 over the past two seasons. how dare they?!
  8. geez...nobody's bitching about it. someone mentioned that they liked izturis' defense, and i mentioned that he looked pretty bad yesterday. i didn't intend for it to spawn a new thread. he looked bad yesterday, i don't know how anyone can say any different. there was no comment about his overall defensive ability. end of story. and if it weren't for negative comments about the negative comments some other people would be the silent type.
  9. This year will be his career year. Next year will look more like 2005 than 2006. and you're basing this on....?
  10. Doesn't sound that terrible of a day? I guess you had to see it... for izturis, who is supposed to be the second coming defensively, i'd consider a day with two misplays to be a bad day. but back to hill's greatness...don't want to divert the thread too much. :D
  11. big game this week...a loss by HBC would really make it tough for them to win the division since i would have the head to head and points tie breakers. a win by me would give me a nice two game cushion.
  12. don't pull anything patting yourself on the back, dusty. :pukel:
  13. let a foul pop drop (which led to hill's only walk) and bobbled bay's (?) ground ball, but was fortunate enough to recover and get him by a half step.
  14. kinda off topic, but izturis looked terrible defensively yesterday.
  15. Yes, but the sample size was also too small for him to be declared a bust, as many were doing after a few poor outings last year and this year. When he's had as many good outings as he's had jaw-droppingly bad ones, then it'll be safe to say he's "turned the corner." it's getting close.
  16. are you friggin' kidding me? i've been a punching bag for my support of hill over the past two seasons...he's probably been the most criticized player in the organization this side of neifi. it's taken every ounce of my strength to resist spending a couple hours digging up a bunch of hill quotes and posting them in a brand new thread. in conclusion, he's looked pretty good his last couple starts for a AAAA, one pitch lefty specialist.
  17. i'm pulling for you! by the way, fausto carmona: -23 points this week. ouch.
  18. if pierre would have continued to suck, i don't think the cubs would have brought him back. instead, he's pulling a mcgriff and he's probably earned an extension (in hendry's mind). it's too bad too, because the only way i can see the cubs having a respectable offense next year is to move jones to cf and get a big bat for one of the corners. a lineup with murton, pierre, cedeno and izturis is going to be awful.
  19. Let's put it this way - I think all of us learned who was to cover 2B on that play back in Little League. Cedeno has looked lost and timid lately, and the excuse about learning a new position doesn't hack it with me, this is very basic stuff any professional middle infielder should know by instinct. agreed. cut him.
  20. They mentioned earlier in the broadcast that since the Cubs have struggled against Duke, Clines is stressing patience with the Cub hitters. it's only taken a few years...pretty good.
  21. heh, cedeno's not even going to be on the team next year at this rate...
  22. that sounds like something joe morgan would say.
  23. at least one of those saves was when he entered the game in the 8th and allowed an inherited runner to score.
  24. what the hell have they been practicing the past couple days then?
  25. his performance tonight will be worth more win shares than izturis will provide in the next 1 1/4 seasons.
