  1. pretty good first day for me. i've got the lead despite the fact that i didn't have any starts and buddiga had starts from zito and dontrelle. now i have an 8-7 start advantage the rest of the week.
  2. i was being sarcastic, by the way.
  3. everybody complained about the overuse of prior and wood in '03 and they turned out fine. obviously everyone is over-reacting.
  4. can't overwork the valuable bullpen arms of ohman, novoa and aardsma.
  5. i didn't watch the game tonight, but i'm sure glad to see zambrano walked seven on his way to a 120 pitch evening in this ever-important game.
  6. the hand sanitizers are on a roll...nine straight W's, and four of the past five full weeks i've been over 300! i've been picking up steady ground in the race for most overall points.
  7. i think my magic number to clinch over HBC is one, while my magic number over buddiga is two. HBC's loss this past week was a pretty big blow to his division title chances. obviously, if i beat buddiga this week, i will clinch the division. however, things get interesting if buddiga wins b/c it would be his second win over me this year, giving him the tie breaker should we finish with the same record. my schedule to finish the year has been tough...raw, HBC, buddiga, nccubbies (who has beaten both HBC and buddiga over the past three weeks) and a resurgent leon trotskys. buddiga has a tough schedule to finish the season too...GHS, HBC and leon trotskys. i believe buddiga has nine starts (double starts from zito, piniero, willis and mussina  ) to my eight (double starts from schilling, clemens and harang...not too shabby). buddiga gets eight games from arod and seven from ortiz. by the way, glaus hurt his knee sunday, so he's starting the week on my bench. if/when he gets healthy, i'll be putting him back into the lineup.
  8. coupling this with what he's said in the past about slow walkers clogging the bases, i've decided that basically, if you walk a slow guy with one or two outs, it's pretty much just like getting him out. and enough already with the griping about the young pitchers. hill, gooz, marmol, marshall, mateo and ryu have gone 13-21 (8 games under .500). z, rusch, wood, prior, williams and maddux have gone 26-34 (8 games under). the cubs don't suck because of young starting pitchers. furthermore, the four rookies in the rotation now are 8-13. the four guys they are "replacing" (maddux, rusch, wood, prior) have gone 14-27. i can't believe people buy into this young starting pitching excuse the cubs are selling.
  9. if he somehow bumps one of the youngsters out of the rotation, i'm gonna be pissed.
  10. where was that wide zone last half inning? cripes... you suck, pierre.
  11. he really got squeezed in the ardoin ab. has it been like that all night?
  12. good thing pagan was playing in the third row of the left field bleachers there.
  13. i'm not basing it on a single play, though that play certainly had an effect. he plays waaay too deep in LF and just looks like he gets terrible jumps.
  14. he does realize, of course, that his big league team is far from fundamentally sound, right? i can't even believe he'd have the nerve to say that after yesterday's game (assuming that's when he said it).
  15. i just saw the replay of mench's double today...pagan looks like todd hundley out there. for someone so athletic and fast he has no defensive ability. and his instincts appear to be pretty terrible as well...i've never seen a LF play so deep, and he gets really bad jumps and takes horrible angles. what's his deal?
  16. where to even start with those quotes...?
  17. you don't often see the starting pitcher left in long enough to give up five eighth inning baserunners. stupid francona.
  18. No way. Liriano didn't get dusty'd. He was averaging 93.5 pitches/game started. Which goes to show you there is no way to fully protect a pitcher... so you should just have them throw 150 pitches per start because they could end up getting hurt anyway.
  19. phil rogers was just on xm w/ steiner praising hendry for the trade, mostly talking about his defense. steiner then notes that he can't hit and that he puts up a bad OBP, but that if you can surround him with a good offense you can make him the centerpiece of your defense. rogers then agrees. how can you agree that he's a bad offensive player that needs to be hidden in a lineup of good hitters, look at the cubs' lineup of not good hitters, and then praise the trade? rogers also mentioned the 'he lead the league in hits for two months' stat. talk about working some mileage out of something completely random and meaningless. wow, he was quite effective at slapping singles around the field for two months...whoop de doo.
  20. so they basically got a lefty reliever that can give you 3 innings a week for two guys that will give you a combined 40 ab's a week. good deal.
  21. it's those darn rookie pitchers that poor dusty has been complaining about. during the 11-4 run... hill, marmol, mateo: 5-1 z, prior, rusch: 3-3
