  1. We've heard that it's a lefty from low-A Greensboro, so if that's true, it eliminates Ungs. So that then leaves Tom Cowley (age 23) - 65.1 IP, 3.31 ERA, 49 K/18 BB Avi Rasowsky (age 24) - 19.1 IP, 5.59 ERA, 20 K/7 BB For the amount the Cubs are paying the Marlins should do better than that. Not as good as Sean West, mind you, but better than that. Aaron Thompson please. He is a lefty and in Single A, however, it's High A Jupiter and not low A Greensboro. Maybe someone got their facts mixed up? I sure hope so. If we're picking up almost all of Jones contract, we better get a solid prospect back. i don't know why people keep saying this. if the cubs were taking on a multi-year obligation to a past his prime OF with an OPS of .600, would you expect the cubs to give up somebody good to get him? No, but Jones had a decent season last year. It depends how much we pay him. If the Marlins still have to pay 2-3 mil then I don't expect much back. But if they pay less then that, then we should get a decent prospect in return. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense to trade him to a potential wild card contender and pay for him to potentially revert back to his form of last year and become somewhat productive. I'd rather cut him than pay for him to play somewhere else. there's really no difference between cutting him + paying him his contract while he signs with florida for $500k and paying him to pay for florida.
  2. No kidding. If the Cubs are paying the majority of the salary, they better get something good in return. You don't get throw away prospects and pay for all the salary. wanna bet? the cubs were desperate to get rid of jones, he's not very good, he's expensive, and he's got another year on his contract. the cubs will pay a bunch of $ and likely get very little in return. Then we should have DFAed him and released him a long time ago. Why pay the Marlins to have a potentially productive player in their lineup for the rest of the year and all of next year for nearly no cost? because that's what you do when you sign bad players like jones to bad contracts and then build your roster in such a way as to inevitably cause a huge cluster f.

  6. they also just said that soriano is one of the top five players in baseball. they're hard to listen to.
  7. it would have been a fitting end to jones' time w/ the cubs had he been nabbed rounding third on matsui's error.
  8. i find it really hard to believe that the cubs went into this game with marmol, ohman, and howry unavailable/not expected to be used. not even the cubs are so incompetent as to go into a game (w/ a crappy starter on the mound, nonetheless) with FOUR unavailable relievers.
  9. wow, i should have started fontenot instead of willits this week. also, i have a bad feeling that brad penny (two starts) may beat me single-handedly this week.
  10. that's the best winning in spite of your manager i've seen since 2003. i give a lot of credit to the fan that charged the mound.
  11. and that ties the game if lou gets his head out of his ass long enough to pinch run for bowen. amazing.
  12. and lou finally gets around to pinch running for bowen.
  13. he drives in runs with his game calling and framing.
  14. heh, hendry's not worried about offense from our catchers, and this game's gonna end w/ bowen and hill going down. way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. heaven forbid they go on a short win streak.
  15. wow, pagan looked like he'd never played baseball in that ab.

  17. The USS Soccer? no, the USS occer -- what's an occer? and this is the guy that beat me? for shame.
  18. Given that he is a converted infielder, shouldn't it help that he has less mileage on his arm? Depends on how you look at it. Some players are able to convert into becoming a pitcher and some end of blowing out their arms trying to. Im not going to go into the mechanical side of it because the majority of the people would not understand it. so you're saying that some pitchers blow out their arms and some don't? fantastic analysis. and if by "not understand it" you mean mock you relentlessly, then, yeah, we wouldn't understand.
  19. I also had the strongest minors the past few years, giving me a leg up on winning this championship! :) i was surprised you didn't make more moves using that sparkling farm system of yours last season.
  20. tim definitely has a leg up on winning the minor league roster potential portion of the league. and the league championship in 2012.
  21. i'd just like to see andruw jones get above .200.
  22. Assuming I'm wrong on the Nomar transaction, what about this one that I also mentioned. There was nothing wrong with Huff. If you say this one is okay as well, then apparently we are allowed to make daily transactions. i agree...that move is not allowed.
