  1. that's fine. he was a rookie and the team was pretty lousy. but how about this year, when he had a pretty good line and running game, and a top TE and WR. 25th out of 33 in passer rating. can't chalk that one up to having never played in the nfl. and then he played very well in three straight road playoff games and won the super bowl. not too shabby.
  2. in light of the circumstances? the patriots' defense wasn't that great this year. they were very good, yes, but not great. and let's be honest, the reason the giants won the game was their defense, not eli manning. the giants scored 17 points, which most people before the game would've said would not be enough to win. the giants' defense, especially their front four, played great, and held the most prolific offense in the league to just two touchdowns. and manning should've been maligned by the NY media; he had a lower QB rating than 3/4 of the league. i'm sorry, i didn't realize that urlacher, vasher, harris and briggs were on the field at the same time as rex grossman. I know, and if I went farther back I could talk about how guys like Mark Rypien, Phil Simms, Jim Plunkett and Doug Williams had better games in the Super Bowl. He played fine, not great, and I think he was pretty fortunate on a few of his throws, but let's not blow this game out of proportion. and let's not blow his age 24 season out of proportion.
  3. i don't really hate eli manning. i hate some guys on the giants, and i hate the giants as a team, but i don't hate manning. i just know that he's not that good. he's 27.
  4. why is "just said no" in quotes? is santana a drug addict or something?
  5. I can't believe I'm defending him but it's because any time he posted anything, a group of people would jump all over him for no reason. It didn't matter what he posted and how much validity the post had, he got ridiculed for it by that group. and anytime vance or a few other people posted something, he would jump all over them for no reason. both sides were guilty of the same thing. the only difference was the people making fun of baseballguy were actually good at it, while his jokes sucked.
  6. that's the biggest surprise. seriously, phil humber? what is this, 2005?
  7. wow, that's the best they could get? should have kept him and taken the picks.
  8. who cares if jones said something? like nobody was going to notice he just packed his bags and left?
  9. guys, he remembers theriot getting on base. which do you think is more dependable -- the stats or this guy's memory? i think you know the answer.
  10. it's bad enough they have the second worst obp guy batting second already. they certainly don't need the worst obp guy batting second. also, batting him second would significantly increase the pressure on him, not decrease it.
  11. where would you like him to hit?
  12. nice angle.
  13. the part where the say hendry likes sean marshall kinda discredits the whole article. but yeah, that whole thing sounds horrible.
  14. how about a mock mock draft where we pretend to do a pretend draft.
  15. His medical report was so bad that it scared off a bunch of teams and he was only able to get a 1-year deal with a $1 million base. This kind of garbage can probably be put to rest now. so you're saying he wasn't just a huge wuss that refused to pitch through pain that he completely imagined?
  16. but i like winning at fantasy baseball, and he's on my team (along with martin).
  17. the OBP of gonzalez and roberts couldn't be any more different.
  18. well, marshall was cheaper, healthier and better than lieber last year. and lieber is a year older, while marshall has another year of experience. i don't know why anyone would think that lieber would be better than marshall.
  19. i sure hope towles is that good.
  20. yeah, that's not true at all. after all, he's not playing for free. also, i'd rather have marshall out there than lieber. so i'd say the worst case scenario is lieber sucks, steals $3.5 mil and the cubs lose games because a better pitcher loses starts. or, the cubs could trade marquis/dempster, lieber (predictably) gets hurt, and the cubs are thin in the rotation. Lieber is better than Marshall. at what?
  21. I don't know why anybody would assume that. He's a big fat 38 year old coming off surgery. seriously. if he wasn't an ex-cub, fan favorite, people would be freaking out right now. Seriously, it seems people are freaking out because he's an ex-cub. i'm freaking out (though i'm not really freaking out) because he's old, not very good, fat, injury-prone, and somewhat expensive. and because the cubs don't need another back of the rotation starter.
