  1. wow, i can't believe trading an expensive, oft-injured malcontent for one of the best pitchers in baseball isn't going to happen.
  2. Hopefully it will inspire your fans to rush out and actually make your stadium 1/2 full for your last home game. Do I smell 25,000? Eh, what does it matter. We're somehow never going to beat Northwestern again. Low blow, but I saw it coming. Good to know I was spot-on about Hawkeye fans using the "If we had X player..." excuse, just as they used it for Greene last season. Injury excuses don't really count when the team that beats you causes the injury. i thought you had to be smart to get into northwestern.
  3. This facility will serve the Cubs for 30 years. Today's intense demand for ST tickets may well erode in coming seasons, especially as the Cubs' national fandom declines absent the reach of 160 games on WGN and the presence of expansion teams in places like Phoenix and Denver, places in which large numbers of western fans latched onto the team in the 1980s. The Cubs have to prepare for a future in which they may need to work to build spring crowds. Naples is 500 miles closer to Wrigley Field, the Grapefruit schedule is more interesting and Florida is a longstanding vacation destination. no one cares who they play in spring training. they just don't. also the distance between the facilities is much greater in florida whereas in arizona everybody (outside of the tucson teams) are within 45 minutes of each other. it is MUCH easier for a fan to travel to arizona to watch the cubs for a week than to travel to florida.
  4. gonna be a long limo ride to the sun bowl.
  5. lol at all the usc fans making hotel reservations in pasadena for the national championship game.
  6. worst backup qb in college football, holy [expletive].
  7. throw a flag, cripes.
  8. what the [expletive] is vanderberg doing?? geez.
  9. shitty way to end a perfect season.
  10. I'm not sure the competition really matters all that much in the spring. The Cubs sell-out in Arizona already. People go to games to see a spring training game, they don't care who the other team is. The people that should be worried are the other teams/towns in Arizona that lose a huge road draw when Cbus fans who can't get into Hohokam go to the other parks. I am aware of the Cubs' gate performance in Arizona. I believe it has the potential to be even better. it doesn't matter. they're not going to sell more tickets because they play the phillies in ST instead of the brewers. they're just not. no one cares who they play in spring training. plus, ticket sales are probably like the 50th most important factor they're considering. selling tickets is the least of their worries.
  11. I kinda think LSU wins. Possibly without scoring an offensive TD. A refreshed Bama defense at home.....I don't think so. Early line has Bama as 10 point favorites, but I think they will come down to about 3.5 by Saturday. Bama by 10 and it won't even be that close. unless someone on alabama dies, i really doubt the line drops 6.5 points.
  12. after throttling south carolina last year iowa's white guys are probably looking for more of a challenge.
  13. People don't hate Iowa because they are undefeated. It's because they play in a weak conference, are over-rated and play a sissy non-conference schedule . They should be ranked about #14. Florida, Alabama, Texas and USC would crush them and about 9 other good teams would beat them easily. It's amazing that for playing such a sissy non-conference schedule they still have the highest SOS of any of the undefeated teams. It wasn't brutal but at Iowa State and Arizona aren't garbage. Yes they play in a weak conference. So does everyone in the discussion. What conference is really good this year? The ACC? Big East? Big 12? The SEC is half of what it's hyped up to be. The Pac-10 is very solid this year. that's my main complaint. i've yet to see any conference establish itself as head and shoulders above the rest.
  14. Oregon would kill Iowa. well, duh, everyone would. they're an embarrassment to college football.
  15. that'd be kinda a load of BS since boise state beat oregon state and will presumably be undefeated.
  16. call me crazy, but i think usc's pending three td loss to oregon is more impressive than iowa's 18 point win against indiana. i'd go ahead and say usc should jump iowa in the rankings.
  17. or maybe notre dame isn't that great.
  18. Aaron Corp. it's a known fact that 1 missed game at quarterback for USC has been the only injury in college football this season. I was pointing out the difference between Barkley and Corp at QB, not excusing the loss completely. they still lost to washington.
  19. yeah, isu is done for. i had a bad feeling about this game.
  20. People don't hate Iowa because they are undefeated. It's because they play in a weak conference, are over-rated and play a sissy non-conference schedule . They should be ranked about #14. Florida, Alabama, Texas and USC would crush them and about 9 other good teams would beat them easily. Texas fits all those criteria, Florida doesn't play anyone non conference and USC lost to freaking Washington. And Iowa would destroy all those team, because I said so. Iowa State, Arkansas State, Arizona and a bunch of Big Ten patsies. LOL at Iowa's schedule. according to sagarin (i know, i know, not as reliable as nsbb's voice of reason), iowa has a tougher schedule than florida, alabama, texas, boise state, tcu, cincinnati, and lots and lots and lots and lots of other teams.
  21. People don't hate Iowa because they are undefeated. It's because they play in a weak conference, are over-rated and play a sissy non-conference schedule . They should be ranked about #14. Florida, Alabama, Texas and USC would crush them and about 9 other good teams would beat them easily. yeah, those other teams play such tough non-conference schedules. also, iowa has played top 25 arizona and 5-3 iowa state.
  22. I don't think anyone hates Iowa. We're just trying to point out that your team has many cracks in the armor and would probably get beat handily by a team like Alabama, Florida, or Texas. Id say you guys are pissing and moaning more about rankings. No one is denying that there are "cracks in the armor" - but the other top 3 teams all have flaws as well. Florida just hasnt been exposed yet, and Texas is not that much better than Iowa. Alabama is the only team I would put above Iowa, and I still say we could beat them on gameday. Id say winning by 18 points when you lost Richardson, Robinson, and Sandeman last week aint bad. Iowa has become very familiar with the term "next man in line" this year, and keeps winning. The only people that think Iowa is better than any of those teams is a certain percentage of the Hawkeye fanbase. I put out this question last week, but rank these 4 unbeaten teams: Iowa TCU Cinci Boise State. The only real reason Iowa is ranked ahead of any of them is because they come from a major conference. right. so they've played a tougher schedule.
  23. lol i gotta say, i really enjoy your sports suffering (with the exception of the cubs).
  24. they're going to cover.
  25. 8-0 teams aren't garbage. sorry. and the #4 team in the country doesnt struggle against indiana. and northern iowa. and arkansas state. yes they do, apparently.
