    Id take him. Gathrights nothing more than a set of legs. We already have 4 1/2 outfielders without him, so a corner infielder with some power would be a good bet. Then again, Dallas Mcpherson seems to have a much higher upside.

    Cutler and Pace would make for more than an acceptable Bears off season.

    Marshall, Heilman, Gaudin or Guzman, and Jake Fox for Peavy. that leaves our pitching staff with Z Peavy Lilly Demp Harden Marmol Gregg Patton Chad Fox Cotts Gaudin or Gooz Vizcaino Of course then we dont have an insurance plan for Harden unless on of our AAAers impresses enough, but Im sure we can find someone if/when the time comes.

    I'd imagine his head is on the pike for the benefit of somebody else in the system. Was there anybody who showed up in bad enough shape this year that they required a scare put in them? Yeah, but I doubt that Chad Gaudin even knows who Mark Pawelek is.

    My question is why does Chad Fox not get consideration? What was the point of digging off the scrap heap for a 3rd time, if he had no chance of making the team? Im assuming that it was only in case some of the other options looked horrible, but guess what, Gaudin and Guzman have looked horrible. And guess what else-weve been waiting 6 years gor Gooz to step up as a star, and it aint going to happen. What makes him any different then our past "cant miss" prospects of the past? Yeah, hes shown some flashes of brilliance, but so has every pitcher to spend time on a big league roster, or they never would have made it that far to begin with. Its time to cut the chord. The good thing about Fox, I guess is that he's more likely to accept a minor league assignment and wait for someone else to crash and burnOf course, his arm is just as likely to fall off, but so is Goozes.

    To be fair, Soriano doesnt deserve to be lumped with that sorry lot. Granted, JH gave him an obscene contract as a sign of good faith to the fans after the dreadfull 2005 and 2006 seasons, but Sorianos been a great player for us. Im sure by the end of his contract, he wont be looking as good, but he has been huge for this team, where as none of those other guys have done squat.

    Yeah, he was on my list of trade targets, but I thought we didn't have a chance because the Reds are a divisional rival. So much for that argument. He would look pretty good as a RH bat off the bench, insurance on the left side of the IF, and a possible 3rd choice at 1B. I'm not that enthralled by him unless he can repeat his 07 numbers. The rest of his years aren't very impressive. For a PTBNL, I can't say I would mind it, but I don't know that he'll be all that valuable. Using him in the roles that I mentioned, he seems like a decent option compared to whoever else is out there. Add in the fact that his cost would be a PTNL and it seems like a decent pickup. Ronnie Belliard would be a far better option and he's a free agent (I believe). Keppinger just hasn't been much of a hitter outside of one career year in 2007. If there's reason to believe he can come anywhere near that, then he'd be a good option. Otherwise, I'm not sure he'd be much better than Miles or German. Belliards still on the Nats, but Im sure that fatal train wresck of a team would trade him. Hed be a nice platoon player.

    Casey McGhees .370/.370/.722 line with 6 hrs was enough to get him a job with the Brewers and beat out Mike Lamb.

Could that mean Fukudome being sent to AAA to get his at bats in for a couple weeks? That would be what I would do rather than lose one of those pitchers for nothing. It also sends a message to Kosuke that if you don't come to camp ready to produce, we'll use those options to send you to the minors. He still makes his millions, but has to ride the bus and sleep in crummy hotels! :) No, it just means that Gaudin or Guzman will probably be traded in the next few days.

    Aside from his ROY year, hes essentially the same guy as Esteban German, whose essentially the same guy as Neifi Perez.

    That was certainly one of the poorer starting pitching performances. Patton got a go of it as well I see. Im sure we see Gooz and Gaudin in there as well today.

    Cubs down 1-0 in the second, but Marshall with 5 Ks after 2 innings. Impressive.

    I guess that leaves us with the question do we rather move our one time top prospect or the serviceable swingman whose owed 2 mil? If only the Peavy deal got done we wouldnt have this little problem.

    Pawelek was only 21, so I dont understand why they just dumped him like that.

    Too think we were close to signing him in the '06 offseason.

    At age 22 or 23, I wouldnt have quite given up on future Cardinals ace Pawelek just yet, but what can you do. Id like to think that whoever was in charge of drafting for the decade is currently workong the graveyard shift at a White Castle OK, I guess theres still a glimmer of hope for Colvin, and Vitters looks good, and nobody can be blamed for Mark Prior but Dusty Baker and Marcus Giles.

    This has to almost be it for him. Hard to imagine him ever getting a call up to Washington, and no one else has shown interest. Too bad, but while he was certainly rushed, he never displayed any willingness to abandon/alter that terrible swing. It might be in his best interest to go to Japan or even some independant league for a few years and try to pad his stats.

    Rajai Davis and Nyjer Morgan cuertainly would have to join that family. Willie Wilson fathered them all and Ced Landrum is a distant cousin. Dont forget their distant white cousin Scotty Pods
