  1. Close play. oh well, 8-8. This would be a nice time to see what Patton is made of.
  2. I chose an awesome time to turn on the game. Kyle Reynolds, I dont knoe who you are, but way to go.
  3. It seems like the recent theme is every time we close a gap, take a lead, or tie a game, we let the other team come right back and score a few.
  4. He was one of the favs to win the CF job going into ST. Hes basically just another Pierre/Gathright/Tavaras type of player though, so its not a huge shock.
  5. 3 Notable ex-Cubs sent to the minors today. Matt Murton(Rockies) who was having a nice spring .302/.362/.453 Josh Kroeger(White Sox) who was having a mediocre Spring .283/.328/.415 Jacque Jones(Reds) who was having a God awful spring .091/.149/.114 Oddly enough, Corey Patterson .125/.125/.175 hasnt officially been cut from Washingtons oer crowded with players well better than him outfield, but Im sure its coming.
  6. I suppose if we really want to keep Patton, a deal with Colorodo could be struck to keep him even if he doesnt make the roster.
  7. So does Bako still get the 500k for the pleasure of his company in ST or did he have to make the roster out of ST? So surprse with Stanton. In order to make the team, either he would have had to look spectacular or Cotts would have had to look awful during ST.
  8. Rajai Davis and Nyjer Morgan cuertainly would have to join that family.
  9. Yep because we were getting above average quality Major League production at 2B, C, CF. For at least two of those positions, the jury is still out on how they will perform. Plus although Lee wasn't giving us adequate offensive production, he still gives us presumably much better defense at first than Hoff would. Neither Fontenot, Soto, nor Johnson have shown us any indication that they wont be able to produce this season.
  10. Havnt heard anything about Lee since the game, so hopefully its nothing.
  11. That definitely qualifies. You mean getting rid of a mop up guy, a guy who will never make the Cubs aside from September call ups, and a PTBNL type of pitcher for a guy whose looked great in ST and a solid back up infielder who can play multiple positions? The base of the deal would be Gaudin for Baker, which doesnt sound bad at all to me. Exactly. Colorado would laugh then hang up. Gotcha, for them, not us. Still Colorodo is a pitching starved team who might welcome a swingman like Gaudin who has had some major league success, and theyve been openly shopping Baker for pitching. There not going to get a front end pitcher for the guy, probably not even a number 4 starter, so I could see them considering Gaudin.
  12. In reality, I wouldnt just dump Gaudin for a bad ST, however, I would definitely consider shopping him, maybe pulling in another back up infieder type in the process. Jeff Baker would be nice, however, if Gaudin does what hes done in ST and late 2008, Coors Field would be a less than ideal location for him to say the least.
  14. Hows about assuming that Patton doesnt make the opening day roster, send the Rockies Gaudin, Jake Fox or Sam Fuld, and a fringe pitching prospect for Patton and Jeff baker.
  15. Im thinking that Vizcaino id a lock at this point. Gaudin, not so much. Gaudin has shown no signs of improvement this spring, and it would be hard to justify chosing him over Gooz, Patton, or Fox simply becasue hes being overpaid. The question is, would Gaudin accept a minor league assignment or look elsewhere? Even if another team does take him on, theyd have to pay the Cubs league minumum, leaving us with only 1.5 mil to eat, which is better than 2 mil. I say cut the chord and take our chances.
  16. "Off of the Cubs" does imply that the player must be current. You can't delete something from a paper on MS Word that's not there anymore, for example. But I support the sentiment. From that point of view, if we were taling about deleting from recent Cubs history, Id go with Alex Gonzalez. Had he not bobbled that routine grounder just after a more infamous play that ill fated October 2003 evening, things may have turned out differently.
  17. I know Gaudin doesn't have options left. But is there any way to send him to Triple A? With his horrible spring, some team might not claim him when he makes 2m this season. He really should. The way his spring training has been, if we let him go, I cant see any other team giving him anymore than a minor league deal anyway. Id just assume go with Patton or Fox, and have Gaudin down in Iowa working things out. Hes just had a horrible spring, and Patton and Fox have looked great. It would be a shame to cut both of them just because we threw too much money at Gaudin.
  18. Cubs lose 7-5. Now thats a load of Gaudin.
  19. If only Bob Howry 2009 hadnt melted down.
  20. Good thing the games not on. I probably wouldnt be able to watch that.
  21. After leggin out an infiedl single, Lee seemed to be favoring his leg, I believe. Hoffpauir immediatly came in to pinch run. I was hearing this on the radio broadcast, and Pat and Ron mentioned the quad or hammy injury that has been nagging him lately. It may be nothing, or those clamoring for Hoff to start could get their wish.
  22. Listening to the game on the radio, Derrek Lee was pulled for Hoffpauir after legging out what sounded like an infield single. It wasnt a routine thing, as the trainer apparently came to see him. I think it was quad related according to Par and Rons expertiece. Could the age old question can Micah Hoffpauir be an everyday player be answered?
  23. If he does get off to a bad start, I suppose it would be more proactive than benching him.
