  1. I think we all would be he's the token LHP I don't understand why the Cubs didn't look into Beimal, Ohman, and Reyes while they were available at bargain-basement prices. The Giants are reportedly shopping Jack Taschner. I wonder if we could get him for either Fox or Hoffpauir plus a low level prospect or 2.
  2. Marmol Gregg Heilman Guzman Patton Cotts Vizcaino or Gaudin
  3. The Reds ar looking pretty good. Volquez has a 0.00 ERA through 14 innings. Micah Owings, Homer Baily, and Johnny Cueto are also having nice Spring Trainings. Arroyo, Harang, and Cordero, not so much. Scrap heap special Jhonny Gomes is OPSing about 1.000 with 4 HR. Every year, the experts say that the Reds will breakout. Will they? The Cardinals have Carpenter back, but for how long. Wainwright is a solid number 2, but the rest of their staff is iffy. Ludwick is OPSin about .650, but Khaili Green and Ankiel both look good. The Brewers always have the pop, but do they have the pitching? Dave Bush is the only one of their starters with a decent ST, and Jeff Suppan is tabbed as opening say starter. The Astros have a great, but aging heart of the lineup with Lee, Tejada, Berkman, and Pudge. If they can catch lightening in a bottle with Hampton and Ortiz, they could be in business. Of course thats a pretty big if. Othereise, I dont expect to hear from them until about August. The Pirates are still the Pirates, but bless their heart for trying. Ex/would be Cubs Craig Monroe(1.095OPS, 6HR) and Donnie Veal(2-0 2.42 ERA) Are having nice springs though, but Craig Monroes still Craig Monroe.
  4. I think (HOPE) that Koyie's had a good enough spring to make the team. Hopefully this doesn't give Bako the edge :( Yeah, the consequences of having Bakos .312 SLG (62 OPS+) make the team over Hills .280 SLG (38 OPS+) would be of epic proportions. If Bako does happen to get the job, I wont be surprised, but I doubt that it will be because of 1 exibition game.
  5. But we did get 1 unproductive season out of Juan Pierre in the deal. I hope this doesnt go down in history as another Brock for Bolio type of deal. I'm guessing that Ricky isn't HOF-bound. To be fair, Brock shouldn't have been either. Speaking of HOF bound, to be fair, we did get young Ryne Samberg as a throw in for Ivan DeJesus.
  6. But we did get 1 unproductive season out of Juan Pierre in the deal. I hope this doesnt go down in history as another Brock for Bolio type of deal.
  7. Im sure the Brewers would love Peavy, as would most teams, but IMHO, he'll end up with 1 of 3 teams: Cubs, Angels, or Padres.
  8. Cotts certainly tried as hard as he could to make it interesting. 1/3 of an inning 4 hits 3 runs all earned and a walk. That's to bad considering the spring he had going. Lucky for him, unless Mike Stanton amazes the next 2 weeks, hes got a spot regardless.
  9. Seems like an unsurmountable lead, but Cotts and Hart are going to do their damndest to blow it. Godspeed boys.
  10. Have mercy guys. Bob Howry couldnt blow this lead on his worst day. 3 1/2 hour+ ST game.
  11. Wow, now thats what they call opening a can. Pitching looking good too.
  12. You mean 2 good years before he falls apart and completely falls off the map?
  13. 12-2 on a Jake Fox 3 run shot. I really hope Fox gets a legit shot at the majors, be it with us or someone else. Im not saying hes Pujols, but he could be a Rob Deer type, with a Greg Vaughn ceiling.
  14. 9-1 Baby Bears. Bradley just had an RBI single, and Jake Fox proceeded to drive in another 2. All this started with 2 out and 1 on.
  15. He almost matched Marquis Grissoms tenure with the Cubs. I guess it's down to German, Gathright, and to a much, much lesser extent Fox for that last bench spot. If only one of them could play catcher.
  16. there are two options a) intuitively realize 900 MLE ops the last 2 seasons (as well as 900 in 73 mlb AB or whatever) shows him as a really good bet to be productive with the bat b) lazily bring up some meaningless dumb-ass career figure that equally incorporates his pitiful 660 OPS seasons from 4+ years ago before he clearly figured things out. hey guys i don't think much of this Geovany Soto, a .784 career OPS in the minors isn't really doing it for me and true to form, which route does dexter go? Keep in mind Sotos career minor league OPS was in the low-mid .700s before he broke out in '07.
  17. Niether Rich Harden or Milton Bradley have any soreness, tightness, or discomfort until early-mid May. Cubs win a playoff game on an Albert Pujols walk off home run after Jake Peavy pitches a perfect game.
  18. Does Brad Snyder get any consideration? Hes putting up some very nice numbers in a smaller sampe size than Hoff and Fox. Hes also a lefty, and they must have picked him up for some reason. Also, like Hoff and Fox, hes not getting younger and would be considered elderly in terms of "prospects". I believe the other question is will David Patton give Guzman, Vizcaino, and Samardjzia a run for their money for one of those last 2 pen spots.
  19. Patton with another solid outting, giving up 2 hits, but with 2 Ks. Im telling you, hes going to fill that last pen spot.
  20. Still up 7-2. On a side note, Koskie was replaced with Bobby Scales after 2 ABs. Makes me wonder if he was injured.
  21. Cubs are having their way with the Ms, up 7-1. Hoff has a 3 run bomb, Jake Fox with a 1 run blasts, and Nate Spears has 3 RBI. Heilman cruising through 3 with 1 ER.
  22. He was cut from the big league team. Not released. Not waived. Not designated for assignment.
