  1. Personally, I think that Lee should have at least been on the final vote ballot.
  2. Patton is rule 5, do you think the Cubs will be willing to offer him back? I don't think they'll want to and I don't think it's likely, but I could see them doing it. If we really want to keep Patton that bad, but not in the bigs, cant we just make a deal with the Rockies? I doubt theyd ask for too much in return. Christ, we gave them their ace for Luis freaking Vizcaino.
  3. While the move has no effect on the Cubs, I find it interesting. Hairston has been quietly having a good year for himself, and it makes me wonder, if they are aquiring a player like Hairston, could it mean they are trying to win and dont intend to deal Holliday? And on the Padres end, with the eariler rumors of Heath Bell to the Cubs, could the Padres have dalth Hairston with the intent of replaceing him with a younger outfielder, say Sam Fuld or Jake Fox?
  4. I jumped on the bandwagon in May. Im on. I can see him and J Jax in Iowa to start next year, and we'll see where they go from there.
  5. In doubt Hoff goes down over Fuld. I like Fuld, but hes one of those guys whose not of much use unless they're starting. Otherwise, hes a 5th outfielder, nothing else, whereas both Hoff and Fox can both play multiple positions.
  6. After taking a 2 game break from sucking, Mitch Atkins gave up 7 ER in 0.2 innings. Ouch.
  7. I still believe that a last minute trade happens tomorrow. Nothing ground breaking, but something that Sends Hoff or Fox to a new home.
  8. The Giants are rumored to have serious interest in Freddy Sanchez, and if that is the case, they have a lot more to offer than we do in terms of players and probably money. With Ramirez back tommorow, if he truely can be the savior, we have roughly 3 weeks to decide what to do. If he can truely be that spark to the offense in the heart of the order, then a Fontenot/Baker platoon would be perfectly adequate for the 8 spot in the lineup and we should try to get the best reliever we can.
  9. Of course then they go and ruin it.... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-05-cubs-brite-chicago-jul05,0,1200641.story Like it is inconceivable that a team could get by with 11 pitchers for an extended period. The (incorrect) usage of Marshall doesn't help the potential strain on the bullpen. A starter being used as a loogy just perplexes me. I know I'm not the Lone Ranger in thinking this... Marshall and Heilman are capable of pitching multiple innings. Hart and Shark are also, but its questinable how effective the can be. 1 would obviosuly have to go though. That way, we could have Marsh, Heilman, and Shark/Hart as long men, and Guz, Marmol, and Gregg as out end game plan. I say go for it, at least for a while.
  10. Hmm... last time I checked we have three of our highest paid players playing third, left and right. Fox is a bat without an available position. There are no avalable positions on this team, with the possible acception of 2nd, and neither player can play it. Both Fox and Hoff are competing for a spot on the bench, and Fox can backup more positions than Hoff
  11. Cashners final line: 5 IP, 3 hits, 6K 1ER
  12. 5 double plays hit into by the Chiefs. One by Ramirez in the 1st. He just wants to fit in when he gets back Monday.
  13. Through 3, Cashner has Kd 4, and allowed 1 run on 2 hits. No BBs, but 1 HBP. He loaded the bases with 0 out in the 2nd, but they only scored 1 on a sac. Over in Peoria, Aramis has an RBI single, which accounts for the Chiefs only run.
  14. I just realised this Mike Burns guy was an I Cub last year. We're doomed.
  15. They're under way. Reed Johnson and A-Ram didn't start, although Reed Johnson did get a PH appearance. I'm guessing the Cubs are being cautious with the wet grounds and rain. Aramis started at DH and is 0-1 with a walk. Reed took a walk too.
  16. According to the I Cubs roster, John Gaubs on the 7 day DL. first Ive heard about it. Anyone know the deal?
  17. Freddy Sanchez would be ideal. According to Kaplan, the sale will be offiical at the end of August, but can Ricketts still give hendry the go ahead before the sales official?
  18. It will likely come down to sending down Fuld and one of Fox or Hoff. Fulds almost a given after not starting today. As for the other, I doubt its Blanco whose out of options and the only legit backup SS on the team. Font has been OK the past few games, and I dont think theyd have traded for Baker and DFAd Freel if they just planned on getting rid of Baker. The only other option I can think of is going with 11 pitchers, which Id rather do than keep Patton around.
  19. Yup, 1 game is definitely enough to draw long term conclusions, especially if that one game finds you down 7-0 before the 2nd inning is over. I know you know better but I had to snarkily rely to that statement. Well I figure if people can suck off Sam Fuld from 2 games and claim hes the "spark" then I can deem the moving Soriano down in the order a failure after 1 game. Its not the failure after 1 game at 6th, its the months of failure at leadoff, coupled with the 1 game at 6th.
  20. Yeah, someone changed a lineup that was working. I hope you're not suggesting that we should play he that shall remain nameless, because thats taboo around here.
  21. Funny, with all the Jake Fox is a bad fielder talk while we were sifting through the dumpster for our answer at 3rd, Casey McGehee really doesnt look any better defensively than Fox.
  22. Yup, 1 game is definitely enough to draw long term conclusions, especially if that one game finds you down 7-0 before the 2nd inning is over. I know you know better but I had to snarkily rely to that statement. Problem is, we havent moved him down far enough down the order. How about 11th.
  23. I blame Rich Harden. Still, 11-2, 2-1, its all the same. Thats what we get for using an entire weeks worth of runs Thursday. Sunday starts a new week, so hopefully we dont squander the supply and Lilly shuts em down.
  24. Hopefully, the pure ridiculousness of that would put a stake in the heart of the fans' voting in the players. this is true.
