  1. Is this real? I think hes speculating, but you never know.
  2. The drooling over Fuld isn't fair, but neither is this statement really. All Fuld has done so far is get on base, show patience, show his speed, play terrific defense, and give maximum effort - basically everything Soriano doesn't do and everything a leadoff man should do. He's done nothing that warrants criticism so far. It's gonna be tough getting him and Soriano in the lineup, but right now Fuld has to stay in the leadoff spot and I think Lou knows it. If we want to keep Fuld around, then I submit the best place for him is on the bench, where pitchers won't have as good an opportunity to adjust to him and we can sub him in for situations that benefit him the most. All in all though, if it comes down to Fox and Fuld in terms of having to send someone to Iowa: peace out Sam Why is Hoffpauir so safe? I know hes lefty, but so is Fuld. Hoff plays only 1st and Right. Fox playes 1st, 3rd, and both corner outfield sots, although I doubt it would come to it. Fuld only plays outfield, but a lot better at it than both Fox and Hoff. I wonder if we could get a decent middle reliever for Hoff.
  3. Guess you haven't paid much attention to him this year We made the trade after '06, and he was pretty bad in '07 and '08 so Im guessing hes have been gone by now anyway. You know how patient Lou is with relievers.
  4. Cutting him wouldn't be that beneficial. He's getting paid either way so cutting him would just lessen our depth some. It all depends on what Baker does between now and when Miles is ready to return. Blanco is the only backup SS we have, at least whose an actual SS. Between Fuld, Hoff, and Fox, 2 are pobably gone be it through trade or option when Ramirez and Reed come back, and the 3rd will be around for the long run. If Baker is good, then theres no reason to keep Miles around. If Baker isnt any good, then may as well let him go. Now that we know that Fox can backup Ramirez from time to time, were basically looking at a utility guy betwen Miles and Baker, but why did Jim bother with Baker to begin with if he didnt plan on at least entertaining the idea of dumping Miles? You talk about depth, but Miles and Baker serve the same purpose, and no need for both. Miles only upside is that hes a switch hitter, but hes worthless from both sides. Heres our depth chart when everyone returns 1B-Lee, Hoff/Fox 2B-Font, Baker/Miles, Blanco SS-Theriot, Blanco 3B-Ramirez, Baker/Miles, Fox, Fontenot RF-Bradley, Fuku, Fox/Hoff CF-Fuku, Reed, Fuld(if around) LF-Sori, Fuld(if around), Hoff/Fox notice Baker and Miles serve the same purpose.
  5. When Aramis comes back Fox or Hoff are probably sent down or else Hendry tries to trade 1. Once Ramirez is back, theres really no reason to carry both Fox and Hoffpauir, and maybe we could get a decent middle reliever for 1 f them. When Reed comes back, Im going to guess that either Fuld is sent down, or if Fuld keeps up what hes doing, they may even try to trade Reed. If Baker looks ever slightly competant, when Milles is ready to return, theres absolutely no reason to keep him around, but knowing the Cubs, they'll send down Blanco.
  6. Heh...yeah, much like Bobby Scales, Fuld appears to be having his 15 minutes of fame. As long as he is helping I don't particularly mind the love he's getting. The guys not only doing the leadoff job, but been great in the outfield. Im not saying its going to keep up, but the guy needs to be in there as much as possible as long as it does. I dont know how many outfield positions he can play, but he could also spel Bradley or Fukudome from time to time. Id rather have him spot starting in the outfield as a leadoff hitter than Hoffpauir who strikes out every time with an occasional home run mixed in. We all know that Fuld is never going to take Sorianos job, but if Soriano is benched enough for him, it get Soriano thinking that its time to buckle down and earn his kings ransom.
  7. Seriously, Sam Fuld is what a leadoff hitter is suposed to be. Maybe we can try and move the albatross to 2nd base, or at least give it a try? Who would have thought that Sam Fuld, Jake Fox, and Randy Wells would be 3 of our most exciting players when Hendry was busy handing out masive contracts the past 3 years.
  8. Funny, similar thing happened to me, only the garbage man left me Mike Fontenot, Neil Cotts, and Aaron Heilman.
  9. Wonder if Soriano is hurt, or if Lou is just giving him a breather? Lets hope that Fuld can continue to add a spark to the lineup. Probably a little of both. Soriano has that knee thing going on, so may as well ride the hot hand and give Soriano a rest at the same time.
  10. I dont think its the intention. Its basically to platoon with Fontenot. I dont see that kind of move happening this season, and if anything, he'll try to add a bullpen arm or 2 to the mix.
  11. How is it lateral? Baker had a decent year last year, but I have no reason to believe that he'll be any better or worse than Freel. Im not going to miss Freel in the slightest, but this feels like a meh move to me. Im getting the impression that after the Rangers gave career backup DeRosa a full time opportunity and hes done very well for himself since, and now Hendry is trying to replicate that with every career utility guy he can get his hands on, thus Miles, Freel, and now Baker. But I guess time will tell.
  12. LaRussa and Torre are also 2 of the winningest and most successful active managers, and Ozzie and Wedge have had their share of success, as has Lou, so these guys are obviously doing something right.
  13. This series is huge. Taking 3-4 would be ideal, but even if we split it, with Ramirez due back monday and just 3.5 games back, we'll be the favorites once again, barring some kind of miracle trade by the Cards or Brewers.
  14. Dumping Freel for Baker feels more like a lateral move than anything, but whatever.
  15. Dumb. dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. Mark Teahen is a poor mans Mark DeRosa. Jeff Baker is a slight upgrade over Aaron Miles. The only way Id be at all for this deal is if Miles if headed to Denver, but more than likely he'd be taking Fox or Blancos roster spot, maybe Freel.
  16. Good comeback Carlos. Hopefully good Carlos is back.
  17. Along with Rich Hill and Felix Pie, the former Al Capone and Frank Nitty of the Cubs farm system.
  18. Should be leading off for good.. I know no one is used to seeing out leadoff man get on base, but that's how it's done. Weren't you just complaining about people saying good things about kosuke after one good game? You know Fuld was OPSing in the .700's in AAA, right? For a leadoff hitter, avg. and obp should be more important than a middle of the order guy where youd expect a higher OPS.
  19. Just making sure the same rules apply to all posters. :cool:Don't worry about them.Don't worry about me. I doubt that will be a problem. Dont worry, be happy.
  20. OT: Whose the guy the Blackhawks just signed for 12 years? Sounds like Jim Hendry took over the Blackhawks.
  21. Welcome to every Cubs game since late May.
