  1. I'm sure that Patton will pitch much better once he is fully healthy. :-)) In all seriousness though, I can't see the Cubs giving up on him at this point. I think hes on the same DL that the Pirates have Donnie Veal on in which he probably wont be heard from again until at least September.
  2. If they have any intention of bringing him up at any point, its as a loogy.
  3. Patton is rule 5, do you think the Cubs will be willing to offer him back? I don't think they'll want to and I don't think it's likely, but I could see them doing it. If we really want to keep Patton that bad, but not in the bigs, cant we just make a deal with the Rockies? I doubt theyd ask for too much in return. Christ, we gave them their ace for Luis freaking Vizcaino. Marquis has pitched well, but he's not an ace. 117 ERA+, 1.308 WHIP, 51:36 K:BB ratio He normally pitches better in the first half than the second anyway. In 2007 he put up a 3.67 ERA with a 1.263 WHIP and a 62:41 K:BB ratio in the first half. In the second half, he had a 5.73 ERA with a 1.541 WHIP and a 47:35 K:BB ratio. By the traditional use of the word, hes no ace and he never will be, but as the looser use of the term, meaning the teams best pitcher, he is, at least this year.
  4. Why dont we first try to move Hoffpauir? I know, hes a lefty, but the lefty over righty just because hes a lefty crap is what got is into the trouble we were in earlier. Hoffpauir seems to project to be a Russ Branyan type. He can play 1st and both corner outfield spots, and I know hes old for a rookie, but some team could be interested.
  5. Totally different scenarios. Freel was owed nothing, Miles has a 2-year guaranteed contract. If you trade him, you aren't getting anything worthwhile. A roster spot not occupied by Aaron Miles is good enough for me.
  6. I really have to believe that Hendrys at least on the phone trying to make a last minute deal. I refuse to believe that Lou and him are just sitting there agonizing over the decision and thats whats taking so long.
  7. Yeah. Clerical error FTW! Dont be stupid. They're sending us Soria.
  8. I don't think he'd be enough alone to get the deal done, but if it costs more I don't think it's worth doing. The idea is to give as little as possible in every trade and, in the long run, Wells likely won't have much value. He's done very well thus far, but I'll be surprised if he continues to build his trade value the entire season. He'll likely falter quite a bit as the league sees him more so it would likely be in our best interest to sell high at the deadline and shift Marshall back to the rotation. Too bad Peavy had to go and get hurt, because if everything were approved and official before the deadline, we could be looking at a massive blockbuster. Something like Wells/Marshall Jackson/Coleman Ascanio Hoffpauir/Fox Fuld multiple prospects, hopefully not Vitters for Peavy and Bell.
  9. You do realize who else is a rookie, right? It doesn't matter if you're a rookie when you're a future triple crown winner. Jake Fox is the best batter the Cubs have! He needs to play every single day, or be traded to a team that will actually play him. A team with good sense. I hear the Cardinals are looking to mix up their OF. Jake.... (inhale) Fox... (and let it out). Ahh. That's refreshing. Wow.
  10. Ascanio, Hoffpauir, Fuld, and a random prospect might be equal to Murton and Patterson. Donaldson and Gallagher were the important parts of the trade. So, no. Would someone like Steve Clevenger, Tony Thomas, or Josh Harrison be equal to Donaldson? I really dont know too much about Donaldson, so I dont know how good of a prospect he was. I would hate to have to send Wells, Marshall, Jackson, or Coleman to the Pads in a deal that wasnt for Peavy, which could very well be a reality next offseason. I'd rather send Wells alone for Bell than a reliever with good potential, a decent lefty power bat off the bench, a prospect and a potential fifth outfielder. Wells has done very well for us, but do you really think that he alone would be enough to get us Bell? I would like to give them as little as possible so we still have enough that they want if we resume Peavy talks.

  12. Would Ascanio, Hoffpauir, Fuld, and a A-AA prospect be a similar enough package to the 1 that got us Harden and get us Heath Bell?
  13. Everyone talked about how horrible Fox would be in the outfield and 3rd. While he wont win any gold gloves, hes been able to get by. Could it be that the same would be true as a backup catcher?
  14. Jacque Jones is on the Newark Bears, and Bobby Hill was as well.
  15. Even with the DH on Sunday they can still go to 11 pitchers. If they have a short outing by a starter and the bullpen gets taxed, then DL Patton, and call up a fresh arm. The best thing for this team right now is to send down Fuld, Hart, and Shark. With or without the ASB and the DH, I just don't see these guys going with 11 pitchers. That 7th reliever is like a security blanket for Lou. Going by what Len said on the tube yesterday it sounds like the 12 pitcher is a Larry security blanket. If Lou would use guys like Heilman and Marshall for multiple innings like he should be, Marshall especiall;y then we could easily survive with 11 pitchers. Marshall and Heilman as long men, Guz, Marmol, Gregg as the end game and take your pick of Shark, Hart, or Patton as the 6th guy, or perhaps bring us Fossum as a loogy.
  16. See Soriano, Alfonso
  17. 2.5 games out Aramis is back Sale finalized. Could good things be on the horizon?
  18. Fair enough. Just not sure why you would even bring up Bradley in that case. Why not compare the players you just mentioned instead? Im just showing how productive Fox has been in his short time up. In half the games, he also has 3 less HR and 5 less RBI than Hoffpauir.
  19. i don't think he was suggesting that bradley be sent down or dfa'd. he was saying that's why fox would stay. i dont think he was saying Bradley should be sent down, just saying fox deserved to stay up Is there an echo in here? :) What's the point of making the comparison to Bradley then? Seems like if you wanna compare homer numbers, you can say that Fox has the same number of homers as Aramis in only 5 fewer AB's. Compare him to someone that has performed instead of one of the more disappointing players on the team. Nobodys suggesting moving Soriano or Bradley, but Im saying that if you're chocing who to keep between Fox, Hoff, Fuld, etc, the answer should be simple: keep the best player, and by far, thats been Fox.
  20. Probably because hes one of the best defensive first baseman in baseball and never logged an inning in the outfield in his 12 year career, but who knows. The fact is, both Aramis Ramirez(at least for a few weeks) and Milton Bradley are both guys who could use about 1 day off a week, so getting Fox PT should be easy.
  21. Lou has said ARam is hitting cleanup behind Lee when he gets back. Personally, I wouldnt mind seeing this lineup although I doubt Lou would do it. Fuku Bradley Lee ARam Sori Soto Theriot Font Pitcher With Theriot and Font able to be flip flopped, although Im really wishing Sori could play a competant 2nd base and put Fox in LF hitting behind Soriano. Im really wishing that Sori could play a competant offense so we wouldnt have to worry about any of this.
  22. Yeah, could be just a fluke, but they should give the Fontenot/Baker platoon a shot. Let Fontenot only face RH pitchers and get back to his natural defensive spot and see if that keeps things going. Its interesting that his tailspin for the season began when he was forced to man 3b pretty much everyday. He had been jacking XBH's when he was playing second, but I can't remember the last time he hit a homer, it must have been May. It seems like the team tailspin began in that complete game shutout by Piniero, the one where we seemed to ground the first pitch to the shortstop in every at bat. Now that was a painful game.
  23. The big kick in the groin will be when he survives this round, but is later sent down for Aaron Miles.
  24. Jake has only 2 fewer home runs and 4 fewer RBI than offseason prize Milton Bradley in 39 fewer games. Nuff said.
  25. Mike Fontenot is 7-15 in the short month of July. Maybe its just a semi-hot streak, or maybe the talk of his job being on the line got to him.
