  1. 1:05-Pirates@ Astros 6:05-Reds @ Phillies 7:05-Cards@ Brewers-Wellemyer vs. Suppan should be a slugfest
  2. Assuming we have some money laying around, what would be the ideal aquisition?
  3. Im going to go out and say it. we dont need a 2nd baseman. We have a solid 1-2 in Kosuke and Theriot. 3-7(Lee, Ramirez, Bradley, Soriano, Soto) should be a regular murderers row if they start consistantly doing what they're supposed to. Between Fontenot and Baker, most NL( and a lot of AL) managers would love to have 1 of these guys in the 8 spot in their lineup. If they really want to do something though, I know this wont go over well, but how about Nomar? I dont know if he can still play SS, but if so, slide Theriot to 2nd and see if theres anything left in Nomars tank. I dont think hes on more than a 1 year deal, and I doubt they're paying him that much, so he shouldnt be too hard to get.
  4. I wonder if this is the big day where we finally see Jeff Baker.
  5. According to weather.com, theres 30-40%chance of rain all day through tommorrow, so I dont know what that means in regards to getting the game in.
  6. Quantity never means as much as quality in these deals. Theres a lot of quality in that package. Maybe even a bit too much. 1 top prospect in the league 2 major league ready quality starting pitchers 3 of our top prospects 2 very young players with a lot of upside
  7. Just out of curiosity, where would you have brought them in? Total fantasy baseball here, but how about Fox PH'ing for Fontenot, Fox going to third if we tie it up. Ramirez out, Blanco at 2nd? I could see that. Problem is we eliminate one of the best bats on the team for however long the game lasts in that scenario. Getting to the extra innings should take priority over deciding who to use in the extra innings.
  8. So for the Cubs, our old friend Kevin Hart, the first in what could be a long line of spot starters for a job that rightfully belongs to Sean Marshall. http://www.littlecubsfield.com/images/Hart,%20Kevin1893500.jpg The way I see it, we traded Freddy Bynum for Kevin, so if we can get 1 win out of him, we got our moneys worth. After Javier Vazquez dressed the entire Cubs offense like Little Bo Peep, called them Cynthia, and slapped them around and made them say thank you for the second time in a just over 2 weeks, hopefully they can get something going vs. Kenshin Kawakami, who sports a 4-6 record and a 4.46 ERA. http://www.nancarrow-webdesk.com/warehouse/storage2/2008-w33/img.317599_t.jpg Im sure that Len and Bob will mention at least 7 times that the Japanese media will be out in full force to witness every Kawakami vs. Kosuke at bat.
  9. So in the past 15 innings, the Cubs seem to have reverted back to the garbage we saw all through June and May. Good to know.
  10. Per The Score, according to Lou, for now, Hart will be the 5th starter, and they'll "play it by ear" from there.
  11. Only 6 games before the ASB. Maybe, maybe not. If Demps needs more than the retroactive 15 day stint, then we may need to do something. I suspect he's thinking of the likelihood of the bullpen getting taxed the next couple of days. With Z pitching on short rest tonight and Hart pitching tomorrow they'll be lucky to average 5 innings per starter. So put Marshall in the rotation call up Fossum as a loogy put Hart at the end of the pen in Pattons old spot, even though Id prefer Stevens Send down Hoffpauir. Again, Marshall isn't ready to start since he pitched last night. That may be a longer-term solution, but not for the next couple of days. I meant long term, post ASB if Demp needs significant time off, which it seems like he might. Marshall deserves that rotation spot, and with Guz back, we already have a deep enough pen. Hoff likely goes down, and after Heilman, Guz, Marmol, and Gregg, make up the other 3 between Hart/Shark/Stevens/Fossum/whoever. Maybe grab Matt Herges.

  14. eh, so we re arrange the roation a bit, and mix in 1 spot start between Marshall, Hart, or Shark. With the all star break coming up, it shouldnt be a big deal. If its more than that, than put Marshall back in the rotation and bring up Fossum as a loogy.
  15. Nice pitching today with Jackson, Carpenter, and Archer.
  16. Ken Rosenthal sees the Brewers and Phillies as the best fits for him. If Melvin isnt willing to give up Gamel or Escobar for Halladay, hes an idiot. Theyed probably have to give up Gamel or Escobar, Hart or Hardy, and Parra.
  17. Not sure what to root for in the Cards/Brewers series. Assuming that we take care of business with the Braves, would it be in our best interest for them to split the series, keeping both nice and close or for either team to sweep and give us 2nd with the Cards series coming up.
  18. i doubt the rockies care because patton isn't good. Do you see the Cubs are interested as to why Donnie Veal is MIA since being DLd over a month ago? I think theres a league wide understanding of these tpes of "injuries". The fact is, if these players were important enough to their former team, they would have been protected from the Rule 5 to begin with.
  19. So a leadoff hitter knocking themselves in (not that Soriano has been doing that for almost 2 months) is unacceptable? Id rather have a leadoff guy that will consistantly get on base than 1 who will hit the occasional home run but more often than not K on 3 pitches or ground weakly to SS on the 1st or 2nd pitch. Will Kosuke consistantly get on base? Time will tell. Thing about Soriano is, when hes hot, Ill take him anywhere in the first 5 lineup spots, but when hes cold, I want him nowhere near the lineup. Soriano is 7th in the MLB in run scored from the leadoff spot. Isn't it kind of silly to complain about HOW he's scoring the runs? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting?split=109&league=mlb&season=2009&seasonType=2&sort=runs&type=reg&ageMin=17&ageMax=51&state=0&college=0&country=0&hand=a&pos=all&startDate=null&endDate=null&minpa=0 But how many of those runs are from the 1st month or so when he was red hot compared to the past few when hes been, well, not.
  20. My bad, I was refering to Fielder. I know my share of Brewer fans who are not big fans of Fielder, at least as far as his non baseball personality.

  22. Why waste a pinch-hitter? There's no way our bullpen gives up 2 runs in 3 IP. fixed.
