  1. The funny thing is, take away 2008, and Milton Bradley is on track for your average Milton Bradley season. average in the .270s-.280s, HR total in the teens, OPS in the .800s. I dont know why people were expecting him to repeat his Arlington numbers. 2009 Milton Bradley: .266/.395/.421/.816 MB career averages, including 2008 .279/.373/.453/.826
  2. The usual suspects, Cashner, Vitters, Castro, Lee, both Jacksons, Carpenter, Coleman, Burke, LaMeaiu, Raley, Archer, Watkins as well as Huseby, Blake Parker, and Gaub despite his rough game yesterday. Tyler Colvins also surged his way back up the ladder in my book, and I wouldnt be in the least bit surprised to see him make a big league appearence at some point in 2010, if as mothing else a September call up. Ive also had my eye on Marquez Smith ever since last year. Rebel Ridlings also intriguing to me, but projects as a Hoffpauir/Fox type who probably doesnt see the big leagues until his late 20s and in a limited capacity at that.
  3. How about: Theriot Bradley Lee Ramirez Fukudome Soriano Baker Hill/Soto/Damien Miller, I really dont care at this point Dempster I really want to win this damn game, I dont care how meaningless it is.
  4. Possible? Yes. Likely? No. 6 games isnt really that bad, but Id bea lot more oprimistic if it were with 1 or 2 teams in front of us instead of 4. As far as Im concerned, as a whole The Cubs are better than all 4 of those teams, but enough so to make up 6 games, probably not. Ill tell you what though, if The Giants take the WC, theres not a team in the league that wants any part of that pitching staff in the playoffs.
  5. I remember when this game was 1st rescheduled that it could be huge for both teams. Now its just another game between 2 .500ish teams. As for Carlos Torres, is he a top prospect of any kind or just a stop gap they called up?
  6. And he'll probably still be called up soon.
  7. WTF, did someone kill the gameday update guy?
  8. He would've if he'd left, he won't now. Once again, stupid decisions by STL that probably won't bite them in the ass one bit. Kyle Lohse says hi, and hopefully so will Brett Wallace when Hollidays playing for teh Mets or Red Sox.
  9. Now that's a forfeit lineup. May as well go all out and start Hoffpauir and Fuld for Lee and Fuku.
  10. No, it's pretty much all offense. You are going to have games where you allow a few too many runs to score. But if you are 5th in the league in ERA (and R allowed), and 10th in runs scored with a 90 team OPS+, and you are a couple games over .500, that's the offense's fault, plain and simple, no argument. wow, I guess your right. In 11 of the 17 August losses, the Cubs scored 3 runs or fewer, including 6 of which when they scores 1 run or less. Thats pretty sad, and certainly not what this team was built to do.
  11. This statement is so very not true. The May-June garbage was all the fault of the offense, but as far as the August slide goes, the pitching is just as responsible. Oh, gee, the pitching dropped near the end of the year when 3 of the starters ended up on the DL. I'm stunned that the pitching that month wasn't up to par with the previous months. The number of easily winnable games that the Cubs' pitching provided that the offense simply could not do anything to win over most of the season caused far more damage than the pitching in August. Some was offense, some wat pitching. Remember, we allowed the opponent to score double digets 3 out of 4 games during that stretch, and then let the damn Nationals score 15 runs in another game. There were games that it was the offense like that extra innings game vs. the Phillies and the Nelson Figueroa debackle, but I think that as far as August goes, the blame is spread around pretty evenly.

  13. He could do both. Run Milton out of town and make a big splash by signing Matt Holliday. That would be a terrible splash. Agreed, but you know the general idiots would eat it up. Getting rid of the clubhouse cancer and bringing in the Cardinals stud who knows how to play the game. Problem with that move is even if we did find a taker for Bradley, we still wouldnt get them to take enough of his salary to afford Bradley. I know Holliday wants to stay with St. Lou, but when those big offers start rolling in, and the Cards cant match them, Boras isnt going to care how much the fans love him in St. Louis. Remember, Sabbathia wanted to play in LA and Beltran wanted to play in a small market. Boras gets what he wants. Bradley is too good of a player to just get rid of for nothing because he pissed off some fans and vice versa.
  14. Heres to hoping Ryan Franklin goes back to being Ryan Franklin and this is just a Dan Kolb year for him.
  15. did he give Milton Bradley...I wont even say it.
  16. Ezequiel Astacio huh? I remember when he first came up with the Astros and they had some pretty high expectations for him.
  17. We have our ace on the mound vs. a stop gap. no reason not to win.
  18. If Bradley goes, and the Cubs end up eating a lot of salary, and get nothing in return, there is 0 reason for Jim Hendry to keep his job. If your Tom Ricketts, and the first big thing to come out of your regime is that you GM just flushed 20 million down the toilet, thats just not good.
  19. Like a month ago or something ridiculous Theres no reason to concern ourselves with anything the Cardinals do at this point. If the Cubs are to somehow make their way into the post season it will be via the Wild Card.
  20. OK, lets try this again. If Milton stays around next year, which I really hope he does and he does what hes doing now, I can guarantee he wont be getting booed or snickered at by waiters or whatever. I really, really hope he isnt railroaded out of town.
  21. Felix Pie and Matt Murton for Zach Greinke and Mark Teahen
  22. I suppose it would make the right side of our outfield amazing defensively with him in center and Kosuke in right, as well as thoroughly piss off White Sox fans, but his name is Aaron, and we dont need another one of those any time soon.
  23. The gamble when trading DeRosa was whether or not Fontenot was capable of playing 2B everyday. Hendry rolled the dice and it came up snake eyes. As for Miles, he should have been long gone as soon as they reilized that Andres Blanco was a slight upgrade offensively and a significant upgrade defensively. I really cant remember the last time Miles hit a ball out of the infield. Its a disgrace that hes still on the team.
  24. As long as they were placed(and kept) on the major league roster for September, no option would be used. I think Gaub getting called up is a no-brainer then. Depending on how Tennessee's season ends, I wouldn't mind seeing Colvin either. I really wouldnt expect to see Colvin make the jump from AA at this point. Maybe this time next year depending how he does in Iowa. I just dont want to lose him to the Rule 5.
