  1. Makes you wonder if theyd be in the market for a scrappy switch hitting utility infielder.
  2. While Z/Lilly/Demp/Wells/Gorz is an adequate rotation, adequate rotations arent good enough, especially when you have what has panned out to be an adequate offense. Z has proven that hes not an ace over the past several years, and thats what we need. As far as Im concerned, there are 2 aces in the entire NL Central, and they're both in St. Louis, and we need something to counter that.
  3. All I know is Soto and Hill are making me miss the tandem of Miller and Bako. Not really, but I hope this is just a sophmore slump for Soto.
  4. Good to see Colvin with another home run. I really hope that Gaub is protected from the Rule 5.
  5. I know what Rosenthal says should be taken with a grain of salt, but he was on The Score this morning talking about the Harden situation, and says that he doesnt think that the Cubs have any interest in resigning Harden long term and maybe not offer him arbitration.
  6. Aaron Miles I suppose he couldnt be much worse on the mound than he is at the plate.
  7. So who makes the start if Harden ends up in the Metrodome? I doubt Gorz or Marshall would be available, not as starters anyway.
  8. IMHO, the arguement for keeping Harden is much stronger than that to trade him. At this point, despite the dreadful play of the last 3 weeks or so, were 5.5 games out of that Wild Card.granted, wed be a lot more optimistic about that if there were 1 or 2 teams ahead of us instead of 4, but theres still a chance. Not a great chance, but a chance none the less. While most of the fan base has conceeded that we wont be in the playoffs, hopefully the team feels theres still a chance. If you trade Harden, our best pitcher for the 2nd half, that slim chance gets slimmer. Not only that, but what kind of message does it send to the players who feel they still have a shot? It says back up the truck. also, you lose the draft picks that wed get if we couldnt resign Harden. Now are whatever middle of the line prospects we could get from the Twins worth not only the draft picks but the shred of hope? I think not. However, the 1 arguement for trading him is that I cant remember the last time the non waiver deadline came around, and not only were we technically sellers, but we had a player that someone else really wanted and needed. We could really juice the Twins for a lot more than Hardens worth. Dare I say a better package than we got him for? As for Heilman, the Giants are in a very good position to make the playoffs, so why would the want to jeopradize it by aquring Heilman?
  9. I really hope they dont feel the need to railroad Bradley out of town because he ruffled some feathers. If they want to win next year, I sugest they dont do any salary dumping. Money will be coming off the books in 2011, and there will be a very nice free agent class that year.
  10. now your getting it. nothing like 10 games back to make waiting til next year a reality.
  11. Burke, Jackson and LeMahieu to Daytona. Flaherty is the most likely to skip to Tennessee. How about Ridling? The guys always struck me as one of those guys who will make is big league debut in his late 20s, but will he make the jump to Daytona or Tennessee next year?
  12. We really need Harden next year. hes the closest thing we have to an ace. Lilly is a great number 2 guy, and Zambrano is just as likely to give up 5 runs through 4 innings as he is to pitch a shutout. I would have to think that before making a decison on what to do with Harden that they'll discuss with his people what it will take to sign him to an extension, and even if they cant, theyd better make sure they're getting the equivelent of the 2 draft picks wed get for him if not more.
  13. I would gladly take an unneccesary colonoscopy over Miles. fixed
  14. It's not like Harden's under contract for next year...or has pitched more than 150 innings since 2004. I'm of the opinion that letting Harden go would be a mistake. He's a legit ace. I disagree. In addition to having great stuff, a true ace has to be a reliable innings-eater. Harden has the stuff, but his injury history makes him far from reliable. Agreed on this point. I like Harden. When he's healthy and pitching to his potential, he's one of the best pitchers in baseball. The problem is, he just can't stay healthy for extended stretches. I'd love to have him back next year, but I would never offer him more than 2 years. If there was a replacement, maybe, but even looking at the 2010 free agent class for starting pitchers. Theres John lackey who leads the pack, and behind him, theres Eric bedard whose been as healthy as Harden throughout his career. I dont want a rotation of Z/Lilly/Dempster/Wells/Gorzalanny.
  15. So if we let Harden go to Minnesota for a sack of whatever, than we have a very 2006esque pitching staff next year. Dont do it Jim.
  16. Part of the Red Sox never ending quest to have every journeyman player on there team at at least one point,
  17. Ridiculous. I'd much rather take either the two picks or have Harden stick around for at least another year from accepting arbitration instead of trading him to the Twins just for the sake of trading him. If they offer a great package that is better than two picks, sure, then by all means go for it. Agreed. And like O_O suggestion I would mind either Hicks or Revere as part of the package. The Cubs should not have to give Harden up to the Twins just because Minnesota wants to placate the two franchise players. Besides, Id rather Mauer decide that he doesnt want to stay in Minnesota so we can sign him in '11. Why should we helpt their cause and get nothing worth while in return.
  18. Milton has been one of our more consistant performers the past few weeks. The question is, is there any way that things can be mended and Milton is back on the Cubs next year? Even if he is traded, we wont get much considering every GM in baseball will be aware of the situation. The window is still open for this team, but it may not be for long and Milton can be a big part next year as long as hes not exiled.
  19. And to steer back on track, I never thought that the thread title would be that big of a deal, but the fact is Soriano is playing hurt and has been for months. With the playoffs out of reach for all practical purposes, theres no point in further agrevating his injury, and at this point we should be showcasing what Fox can do. Maybe he can build trade value, maybe wed just assume hang on to him.
  20. he is now, but it may be too late to mend the bridge. I for 1 would like to see him back next year, but it may be too late for that.
  21. Sorry if the thread title offends, you. or you could just get over yourself. or not. its your choice. Doesn't offend me, but does make you look like a 12 year old. So kudos for that. I actually stole it from Greenfield or Rogers or one of the Red Eye 5 on 5 guys from a few years back. Its just a thread title. Some folks are just a bit up tight.
  22. Im really getting excited to see what Colvin does in Iowa next year. Theres hope for him to escape Ryan Harvey territory yet.
  23. Sorry if the thread title offends, you. or you could just get over yourself. or not. its your choice.
  24. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090829&content_id=6679804&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Theres really no reason for Soriano to play another game this season. With the roster expansion coming up, no need to DL him either, but when hes making 18 mil a year for the next 5 years, they really need to keep him as healthy as possible. He should have been DLd months ago, but thats a moot point now. Nows the time to see what Jake Fox is really made of and bring in Fuld as a late inning replacement prn.
