  1. Do what? Something stupid? Not like the Dodgers gave up anything of value, but there'd be no point to this. Nevermind that Thome supposedly only wanted to go to a team that had a sure chance of playoffs. I read that as having the stones to drop worthless vets down the stretch. Yeah...that makes a lot more sense. Really Heilman's my only complaint, unless there was actually a taker for Dempster or Gregg, which I doubt at this point of the year. Remember Thome is a free agent after this year with 2.5 mil remaining in this years salary, and then there off the hook next year. We dont have any vets like that who we can just dump and not have to worry about their future salary, not any that any other team would want. Sure, Id be all for dumping Gregg, Heilman, and of course Miles, but theres really not much of a market for bad players.
  2. Because you play in an adult county league and he plays in major league baseball. Are you saying it's not comparable? Remember, this is the AL Central were talkning about.
  3. No Gaub? :( Anyone could be an option, but these are the guys currently on the 40-man roster. My guess is that they won't add anyone new to the 40-man roster until after the season in order to save roster spots for free agents or trades (and maybe a Rule 5 pick). But there is very little reason otherwise not to add Gaub now. I agree theres really no reason for Gaub to be on the team now, especially with Marshall, Gorz, and Grabow, but Gaub, along with Colvin are 2 guys I really hope they'll protect from the rule 5, so they may as well just put him on the 40 man now.
  4. How would you explain Billy Beane's overall success then? He exploited under-appreciated means of evaluating players. Now that they're not really under-appreciated anymore, he's been exposed as a fairly mediocre general manager. Billy has done an OK job with young, unappreciated players, which is why I was surprised when he went after all of these cheap old guy nobody else wanted this past off season. However, if he were hired by the Yankees or Red Sox, do you think hed stick to his same methods?
  5. I know weve had trouble with Moehler in the past, but pitchers dont rack up a 5.26 ERA and 1.51 WHIP by accident. I know weve faced some aces lately, but this isnt Roy Oswalt or Nelson Figueroa were dealing with here. Remember, when dealing with that spaz Valverde, its essentially an 8 inning game.
  6. Wow, White Sox werent folling around. I thought Kenny was just calling them out. Contreres in Coors Field should be a match made in hell, but then again, thats what we thought about Marquis. As for Thome, I hope he enjoys that 1 at bat per game.
  7. Im very curious to hear who the other 10 were. If they said that only Harden and heilman were "stories" than who the hell were the others? Gregg? Grabow? Miles??? If someone claimed Miles, and Hendry didnt hand him over with a pink bow on his head, that just sucks.
  8. The ineptitude continues. Just when I start to tell myself they can claw their way up the wild card ladder, they go ahead and prove they dont belong in the post season. Youd think a team with a gauntlet of Bradley-Lee-Ramirez-Fukudome-Soriano and the rotation we have wouldnt be struggling to stay above .500, but thats whats going on.
  9. Our big boys can never get to Valverde, so lets see if the rank and file can get something done.
  10. I guess this belongs in transactions.
  11. I live by the theory that a GM is as good as his payroll. Ive always been curious to see how Brian Cashman, Theo Epstein, and of course Jim hendry himself would do with a small market/low budget team. My guess is about as good as Dayton Moore.
  12. Hopefully this means we wont be seeing anymore of Aaron Miles unless its a blow out.
  13. Yeah, but he got a chance with the O's that he wouldnt have with the Cubs. Hed probably be a pair of spare legs, a late inning defensive replacement, and a bench bat behind Miles for us.
  14. This is odd. This was just posted on MLBTR. Either Harden was put through waivers again or Olney hasnt been paying much attention.
  15. and being Aaron Miles.
  16. yup. zilch. zippo. nada. I know the waiver deadline usually isnt too action packed, but I expected something. I guess the Kazmir deal was pretty big for the Angels, but what was the next biggest deal? Ronnie Belliard?
  17. I guess if I had extremely low expectations, I might consider taking 1-3 from the Nationals and 2-3 from the New York Mets AAA affiliate Buffalo Bisons as "starting to play well".
  18. Isnt Jason Kendall going to be a free agent in the off season
  19. This team wouldnt surge if you put 40,000,000 votes through them. The are dead. pushing up the daisies. they have gone on to meet the maker. they have joined ther choir invisible. they are bleeding demised.
  20. Maybe Vitters could help out The Chiefs in the playoffs. Hes not exactly thriving in Daytona. What would be the point of demoting him, especially for a week? To help the Chiefs through the playoffs. I dont know what kind of rules the minor leagues have as far as players being eligible for the playoffs, but he was huge for them in the first half.
  21. Maybe Vitters could help out The Chiefs in the playoffs. Hes not exactly thriving in Daytona.
  22. The thing to do is give Soto 2010 to prove whether 2008 or 2009 was the fluke. If 2009 was a fluke, then hes our guy. if 2008 was the fluke, then throw lots of money at Joe Mauer assuming we can afford it by then, and assuming the Twins havnt extended him.
