  1. Prior to 2006, DeRosa was a career role player who was given an opportunity to start in Texas and made the most out of it. That earned im a big contract, that was ill advised at the time. It payed off, and it made Hendry look good. Similarly, prior to 2008, Aaron Miles was a career role player who had a pretty good year last year after getting a lot of playoff time. Hendry thought he could try the same thing, with a smaller contract. We all know how that turned out.
  2. When and if The Smokies are out of the playoffs, Id like to see Colvin called up. Theres really no harm in it. Can he possibly be a worse bat off the bench than Aaron Miles?
  3. Looking at Bobby Scales, Andres Blanco, Micah Hoffpauir, and Jake Fox, I really hope that they dont sign any more utility guys in the off season. Between these 4, they can cover a lot of positions. 3 of them deserve to make up the bench, along with a backup CF, maybe Fuld, maybe Reed Johnson and a backup catcher, probably Koyie Hill. Theres no reason for another Aaron Miles or Joey Gathright. Scales, Hoff, Fox, Blanco, and Fuld all deserve to be major league players, or at least on a team where they have a chance to make the opening day roster. They may never be all stars, they may never be starters but they deserve a chance to play somewhere, not where management decides to go with bad veteran free agents instead. As said earlier, if they want to go after O Dog or Brian Roberts, thats good, but I really see them signing someone like a Placido Polanco, Felipe Lopez, or Orlando Cabrera type for the middle infield, when that may or may not be an upgrade over the Font/Baker platoon. That sure fielding shortstop who can hit probably wont be available, because there are really only a handfull of them out there. Were not the Yankees, so I hope that the learn that we dont need a new toy every off season unless its something we really need.
  4. Until recently it was a pretty excellent year for him. It was a good year, certainly a nice rebound from his 2008, but I wouldnt call it excellent, especially considering his expectations when first coming over.
  5. We still face 3 inings worth of bad pitchers before Trevor Time. Lets do this.
  6. Did that make anyone else cringe?
  7. Cubbies trying to rally. Good thing Old Man Piniella thought that David patton was worth 2 innings.
  8. Screw it, hopefully Wells can shut em down tomorrow.
  9. Id forgotten that Justin Berg existed.
  10. Isnt the benefit of having Marshall and Gorzalanny in the bullpen that they can pitch multiple innings when the starter has a short outting and guys like Patton can remain in the far end of te pen?
  11. Its a good thing that Fukudome and Bradley have completely dissapeared not that the rest of the team is playing well.
  12. David Patton isnt even almost a major league pitcher.
  13. The thing about the Brewers ptiching staff is up until the 9th inning, runs are very easy to come by, so as long as the pen keeps us in it, this one is far from over.
  14. Make that 3 runs. I do however enjoy Piniero getting beat up on.
  15. Marlins scored 2 in the top of the 1st and are still batting. Hopefully the Cardinals will continue sucking vs. wild card contenders this weekend.
  16. Whats wrong with enjoying the game? I know we need to be careful not to get our hopes up, but I spent many years of my life watching Cubs teams that werent going to be in the playoffs, so why stop now? As long as they're playing well, Ill be there watching.
  17. "Crap?" The return for selling high on DeRosa is looking pretty good. I wasnt refering to the return on DeRosa as crap, I was refering to the move itself, trading him without an established backup. I suppose it looks a lot better now that DeRosa isnt doing so hot and probably needs wrist surgery.
  18. And a friend for Kosuke Hes still pissed that we dumped Shingo.
  19. Only if you think that 1 bad ex Cardinal is enough.
  20. More than likely to fill in for Fuld. Before this move, the Cubs werent Taguchi at all.
  21. I don't. Yeah...I hope they get what they can for him. It's doubtful that he's going to get better moving forward. Exactly. He's been awesome this season but his value will never be higher than it is after this season. The thing that concerns me about that is we don't really know what the concept of selling high is, so we'll probably hold onto him. The Cubs will probably hold onto him because of his no-trade clause and his lack of interest in waiving it. And the fact that even if he doesnt have another season like this year, you can still count on him for an OPS in the mid .800s-low .900s and 25-30 home runs, and I have no reason to believe that FoxPauir can produce at his level, and certainly nowhere near his defensive abilities. I want them to be in win now mode for 2010. If not, fine, trade Lee, trade Z, trade Lilly, dont resign Harden.
  22. But then youd have to tell me that Ramirez would be injured for a god chunk of the season, Marmol would walk everyone in sight, Bradley would be inconsistant at best and Soriano, Soto, and Fontenot would be relatively worthless.
  23. This is my favorite part of the above article
  24. To anyone who heard Zs tone of voice, he sounded upset about the talks and like he really doesnt want to leave the Cubs, but if they dont want him, he'll accept a trade. This does not need to happen.
