  1. I would love Ethier, however, if we moved Z, wed need to find another front of the rotation pitcher. Maybe John Lackey. Rumor has it the D Backs might not extend Brandon Webb, but Im not sure of the extent of his injuries. Ben Sheets and Eric Bedard are also options, but again, theres the injury history.
  2. Why would the Mariners want to do that? It would make zero sense for them. It's not going to happen. They could reason that 3-4 years of Z is better than 2 of Felix. There's already talk they may want to pre-emptively shop him because they aren't going to be able to keep him. Getting a player of Zambrano's caliber would definitely soften the PR blow of trading your best pitcher. If we offered Z, 1 of Cahsner, Jackson, or Carpenter, as well as a few other prospects, maybe throw in Jake Fox the Mariners would listen. Of course, wed end up picking up part f Zs contract. However, the Ms do have a nice chunk of change coming off the books between Beltre, Bedard, Washburn, and Batista, so they may just prefer to try and lock up Felix long term. I still say the best bet is not trading Z unless they already have an ace in their sights.
  3. 3 of the teams he stated hed like to pitch for were the Yankees, Red Sox, and White Sox, so Id assume hed take a deal to an AL team.
  4. Uh Milton Bradley because he's a redassed blackman. We need more Fuld or Erstaditty grindiness. Maybe we can go with Fuld, Johnson, and Fukudome across the outfield. Sure, they wouldnt be much offensively, but there would never be a base hit into the outfield by opposing teams.
  5. Blah blah blah blah. Amen! If he didn't extend Grabow, people would be complaining that Hendry left them short a lefty in the bullpen. I'd rather start the year with Casey Fossum as a LOOGY than spend money 4M a year on Grabow. Personally, Id prefer Gaub over Fossum and keep Grabow if we can get Grabow for 3-4 mil for 2 years.
  6. I wonder if we could build a package around Z for King Felix. According to ESPN 1000, "upper management" is serious about shopping him.
  7. I like to think he wont give out another Howry or Eyre type contract to Grabow, but if we could get him for 2 years at say 1.5 mil/year, I dont see the harm in it.
  8. I agree with what Derrek Lee said recently. This is still a very good team, and kept as is will be very competitve next year. Maybe if we can find the right middle infielder Id be all for it, but theres no reason to railroad anyone out of town. OK, theres no reason to railroad anyone other than Aaron Miles out of town.
  9. I really like 7,8,9 consisitng of Grabow, Guzman, Marmol. Marmol has had his ups and downs, but since being given the closers role, hes been great in actual save situations. Theres no reason to hang on to Heilman, as we have what it takes to put togther the rest of the pen in house, maybe ad a cheap free agent vet or 2 to Gaub, Stevens, and a few of our others.
  10. OK, until this, I havnt taken these talks seriously, but now Im starting too. If they do trade Zambrano, they better have a damn good backup plan, and Im not talking the oft injured Rich Harden. Z may not be a tradional ace, but hes the best pitcher we have. If Z is traded, and someone like Halladay through trade or Lackey theroug FA doesnt take his place, Jim Hendrys dumber than I thought. You cant take a chance on Rich Harden as you ace, and risk spending a good portion of the season with a rotation of Lilly, Dempster, Wells, god knows what, god knows what.
  11. So assuming Lou and co. decide they're in this thing... 1. Soto is the starting catcher, no more platooning 2. Fukudome and Bradley remain everyday outfielders, no platooning. Platoon Hoff and Fox in left with Fuld as a late inning defensive replacement. We all love the Bobby Scales story, but not if we want to win 3. Marmol is the closer and use him as such with Guzman and Grabow as primary set up men, with Heilman and Marshall if a long man is needed. Maybe give Caridad a few more looks to see what he can do. Ive liekd what Ive seen so far. As far as Im concerned, the rest are mop up men and nothing else 4. Jeff Baker is our primary 2B. Maybe Font vs. a tough RHP. Andres Blanco is out back up SS. Miles in nothing more than the last bat off the bench behind Fox/Hoff, ddpending whose not starting, Fontenot, Scales, Hill, Fuld, and Zambrano if necessary 5. We really need a solid #5 hitter. Im going to go with Bradley and bat Theriot #2 behind Fukudome. The everyday lineup should look like Fukudome Theriot Lee Ramirez Bradley Soto Foxpauir Baker P Hey, it could happen. Im not saying its going to happen. Im not saying theres a decent chance of it happening. Im just saying it could happen.
  12. Not that I have tremendous faith in the happeneing, but the Cardianls have 2 more games vs. the Marlins and 3 vs. Rockies. Remember 2004 when people accuse Tony LaRussa and the well in 1st place Cardinals of intentionally rolling over for the Astros, who the Cubs were competing with for the Wild Card to keep the Cubs out of it? We better rack up some Ws vs. the NL Central, because those 4 games in San Fran will not be fun, and we'll surely run into Cain and Lincecum. That would be a good time for these guys to prove what they're really made of though. This means no more pulling lineups out of a hat.
  13. The thing about Coleman is you dont hear much about him, but hes been consistant pretty much all season. When talking Cubs pitching prospects, it always comes down to Jax, Cashner, and Carpenter. Has anyone seen Coleman in action? Whats his ceiling? What type of stuff does he have?
  14. I still cant figure out if the White Sox were trying to block the Tigers and expected The Jays to pull Rios off waivers or if they really wanted him. I mean Dye has been beyond brutal the entire 2nd half and isnt getting any younger, I cant see Pods doing what hes doing again next year, and 2008 Carlos Quentin is inching toward fluke territory, and the Sox have been whinig about not having a legit CF ever since they moved Aaron Rowand, so maybe they really wanted the guy. With Peavy, Buerhle. Danks, and Floyd, they'll have the best pitching in the division, maybe the AL next year, so maybe they'll be a primarily pitching based team, which you dont see much in the AL.
  15. Perhaps because Andy and Garfield cartoonist Jim Davis both went to Ball State. Because Heathcliff wasnt available. Anyway, considering Dempster vs. Suppan ended up as a pitching duel, does this mean Z vs. Gallardo will be a slugfest?
  16. Wasn't just you. I think he just inadvertently mispronounced the second syllable ("peanits"), but yes, it definitely sounded like he wanted something extra with his Cracker Jacks. I dont know, Vaugn seems like the type who would say it to see if he could get away with it. Maybe Favreu put him up to it.
  17. I could be wrong, but Im pretty sure Vince said "but me some penis and cracker jacks"
  18. That catch was pretty bad ass even by Sam Fulds standards.
  19. Forgettable 90's player calls out MJ http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AvBxXx_zr.K2aVzWf3glc4W8vLYF?slug=mc-jordanrussell091209&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  20. It seems as though what weve been in need of is 1 more middle of the order type hitter to go along with Lee and Ramirez, which were supposed to be Fukudome and Bradley, but theyve become the top of the order guys when Soriano could no longer cut it there. DeRosa was just that, but we all know how that turned out. If Soriano can rebound and become a solid #5 guy, that would be great.
  21. Who is "we?" A lot of people were expecting big things from Fukudome when we got him. I really thought that what we saw in early 2008 was what we were going to get for the next 4 years.
  22. Were you also asking for 30 HRs for bradley too? nope, high teens/low 20s. Bradley has never been a big home run guy. I would have expected similarto the Fukudome expectations from hi however. Never would have expected anything near his 2008 numbers. I think a lot of people are harder on Bradley now not so much because of his numbers which have been decent enough but because the guys Hendry overlooked to get Bradley: Dunn, Abreu, and Ibanez have all had great years and Dunn and Abreu got significantly better contracts, at least from an organizational stand point.
  23. Tim Lincecum Johan Santana Matt Cain Adam Wainwright CC Sabbathia Cliff Lee Chris Carpenter Roy Oswalt Ray Halladay Josh Beckett Mark Buerhle Jake Peavy Felix Hernandez Zack Greinke Dan Haren Brandon Webb Justin Verlander John Lackey Cole Hammels Jair Jurrgens Ted Lilly Chad Billingsly Just to name a few
  24. Fukudome is a definite improvement from last year, but hes still not quite where we expected him. Hes a great defender, although hes a bit better in right than center. Hes getting their, and he seems to be trying to eliminate the Fuk-U-Copter from his game. Id definitely take similar numbers throughout the duration of his contract, but we were expecting something along the lines of .285/.375/.480 with 20 some HR when we got him.
