  1. I know this is discussed at times in multiple threads, but I figure its an important enough topic to warrant one of its own. Its starting too looke more and more like Z isnt going anywhere, and Harden is in fact going somewhere else. This being said, as of now, we have Zambrano Lilly Dempster Wells Now do they consider Dempster and Wells to be the 3 and 4, and allow Gorz, Mrashall, Shark, and maybe Diamond and Atkins to compete for the 5th spot, or will they go after a number 3 type starter, or perhaps go all out in pursuit of another top of the rotation gut like Lackey, or a more risky option like Bedard or Sheets? If looking for a back end starter, there are guys like Garland, Ducherer(or whatever), Randy Wolf, Piniero, Doug Davis, and several other seimiarly mediocre options. The problem with these options is that they may or may not be any kind of upgrade from what we already have lined up. If it were up to me, Id like to at least explore a trade for Halladay, or see what Lackey wants, maybe see if Sheets or Bedard would accept an incentive filled deal. Otherwise, just let our guys compete for the job, hope Lilly can do what hes did this year and that Z doesnt.
  2. Not even that, he pissed off some sports writers who then got some of the fans to hate him. I, for one, love Bradley and hope he stays. If he wants to run around Wrigleyville yelling kill whitey all while carrying the severed heads of Olney and Sullivan, I could care less as long as hes producing. His job isnt to be friends with the fans and media. Its to play basball and produce runs.
  3. Im seriosuly at the point where I could go either way on Bradley. While I wouldnt recomend railroading him out of town just to get rid of him and eating salary, Id be all for a salary dump if there was a team willing to take on enough salary to make it worth while. Then just go ahead and either sign Adam Dunn or go with a FoxPauir platoon. I wonder if the Marlins would be interested in a Bradley for Uggla swap, although the thought of an Uggla/Theriot middle infield makes me want to throw up in my mouth just a little.
  4. Meh, this is what I get for being reeled back in just because we put together yet another decent stretch vs. bad teams.
  5. Rotoworld is reporting that the Cubs arent shutting him down
  6. In some bizarro parralel universe where Cubs pitchers are capable of avoiding 2 out rallies against bad players the Cubs won this game
  7. Wow.So Im guessing the 5th starter comes down to Marhshall and Gorzalanny, with the ever intriguing Thomas Diamond as the dark horse.
  8. Congratulations to Carlos Villenueva on his first 1-2-3 inning since Zubas were cool.
  9. They're paying back the offense for all those quality starts they wasted in May and June.
  10. Here comes Villanueva. I guess Macha doesnt really want to win this game.
  11. Nothing like getting beat by Jody Gerut and Michael Rivera, and more impoprtantly our own pitching. At least those wacky dilusions of storming back into the playoffs are on their way out. Always the 2 out rally.
  12. According to game day, Milton Bradley left the game with an injured knee. Youd think this would mean more Fox and Hoffpauir, but due to the lunacy of our manager, it will probably mean more Scales and Taguchi.
  13. As long as they're lefthanded. We all know that only hitters need to be left handed.
  14. Nice escape by Marshall. I think we can get a few runs in 4 more innings vs. bad pitchers.
  15. Next years offseason focus: pitchers who can close the damn door when they have 2 outs and 0 on without giving up a massive rally.
  16. Cubs lineup is Theriot SS Fukudome CF Lee 1B Fox LF Bradley RF Baker 3B Fontenot 2B Hill C Wells P No Ramirez, no Soto. Brewers Lopez 2B Gerut RF Braun LF Fielder 1B Cameron CF Gamel 3B Rivera C Escobar SS Bush P
  17. I say offer arbitration in the off season, If he accepts, super, if not, pocket the draft picks.
  18. Agreed. $11-12 mill per for a player who has very little power? No thanks. Figgins seems to be the Juan Pierre of this yr's class. He's better than Pierre because he has a better OBP and better patience. But I wouldn't give him $11-12 a year. I prefer the other potential 2b FA that plays in the LA area. That would be so Hendry-esque. We got nothing from 2B this year, and many of us saw that coming, and the Dodgers paid, what, Hudson $3 million for this year? Then we'll go out and give him a 3/$20 million contract. This is all nonsense. We all know that JIm will sign Placido Polanco to a 4 year/$60 million deal.
  19. We need 7 innings minumum from Randy, and hes the guy to make it happen.
  20. Wasnt the name of the 2005 White Sox 2B Taguchi? What happened to that guy? He just fell off the map. ETA: my bad, it was Tadahito Iguchi. Still he fell off the map.
  21. Prior to 2006, DeRosa was a career role player who was given an opportunity to start in Texas and made the most out of it. That earned im a big contract, that was ill advised at the time. It payed off, and it made Hendry look good. Similarly, prior to 2008, Aaron Miles was a career role player who had a pretty good year last year after getting a lot of playoff time. Hendry thought he could try the same thing, with a smaller contract. We all know how that turned out. Miles was never signed to be a starter, DeRosa was. Not a starter, but a RH platoon partner for Fontenot.
  22. So, a fielder, a spare outfielder Fox, a guy with no playing time
  23. I dont hink any could be worse than Kelly what her name from American Idol. Caling that chick dumb would be an insult to dumb people everywhere.
  24. Funny line, but it goes to show how underrated Justin Morneau, Jason Kubel and Michael Cuddyer are.
