  1. Why does it matter? No sense throwing Lilly out there and taking a chance of something bad happening. Let the kids play the rest of the year It seems as though they are auditioning guys for the 5th rotation spot to see if its worth re signing Harden in the off season. While Harden is beter than Marshall, Gorzolanny, and certainly Shark, is he really worth the 10-11 mil hed probably end up getting?
  2. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  3. I can't say for sure but they probably saw enough of him playing CF in the minors to have a good idea of how well suited he is for that position. They probably started him in CF last night so Trammell and Piniella could see how he handled it. Plus, Kosuke is better suited for RF anyway, so if Colvin were to prove his worth, maybe there is an off chance he could earn a look in spring training in center.
  4. Ive always like Michael Young, but did not realise that he was on that kind of contract.
  5. Very true and yet another reason why I believe NSBB would manage the team better than the current front office. Also I wish the Cubs, if they must abide by their quest for speed, would manage to break the trend of somehow getting a speed guy who is not even a good defensive player. I expect no less than CHONE at 2nd and Pierre in CF though. This offseason is likely to be HILARIOUS in the message board world. Im thinking Placido Polanco and Scotty Pods. Polanco will put up Ryan Theriot like numbers and be way over paid for it, and Pods will play 13 games and his stat line wont be unlike that of Ryan Freel..
  6. Carlos would do the same for you. probably.
  7. Hundley was flicking off fans after home runs. It's close. I was too young to really remember all the behind-the-scenes stuff with Kingman. I knew he wasn't liked, but that's about it. It seems that while Bradley was just sucking, he got the same kind of boos that most players do when they suck, Soriano, Gregg, Zambrano, etc, but once he started opening his mouth is when the fans started coming down on him extra hard.
  8. The last place Id want Bradley would be the NL Central. You just know hed kill us every at bat.
  9. Considering that its pretty much official that we will be eating Milton Bradleys contract, I really cant imagine any scenerio in which Zambrano is traded and we dont get either something good in return or a huge chunk of salry picked up.
  10. My only resoning behind Bobby Scales is that Lous trying to let him prove that we dont need Aaron Miles, which Miles proves all by himself, but still, Andres Blanco is 1st in line for the job of light hitting utility infielder, and has earned it. It could be that as Keener said, Fox has proved himself, and hes trying to let Scales play in hopes that another team notices him. There are worse utility players out there. Were paying 1 $5 million. However, I think that were at the point where we should be playing guys who could potentially start next year, more Fox, Hoff, and maybe even Colvin. Considering that its more and more likely that we'll have an opening in RF, we should see if any of those guys could potentially start so we dont have to throw another 10 million at someone like Bobby Abreu or Jermaine Dye, who hasnt even been on base since the all star break, as tempting it probably is to Hendry.
  11. According to WSCR, the Players Union is considering filing a grievence againt the Cubs in regards to the Bradley suspension.
  12. They must have had some indication that Diamond wasnt going to make it back, at least anytime soon. Otherwise, they could have just transfered Chad Fox to the 60 day DL. Too bad. As for Colvin, not a bad 1st day of work, but if hes going to make it in the big leagues, hes going to need to spend half the off season in the weight room and the other half at an Old Country Buffet.
  13. Why would Baltimore want him? Their OF is set. What they need is a big time slugger. I also don't see MacPhail putting Bradley with his prized youngsters. Of all the teams out there, I still think the Mets are the best fit. I know not many want Luis Castillo (although he's still a decent top of the order bat who runs the bases fairly well for his age), but we likely have to take back a bad deal if we make a trade (along with eating money). Minaya may be desperate enough ... they are talking about adding an OF bat anyways, and they've been rumored to be wanting to go after Orlando Hudson this offseason (not sure why they wouldn't prioritize adding a pitcher first, but that's not my concern). Nothing's ideal ... but that's the one swap that makes the most sense to me out of all the names that have been bandied. Bradley for Felix Pie, Rich Hill, and Lou Montanez. Done and done.
  14. Gee you think? Way to go out on a limb there. I was just saying that in response to those who dont like the idea of calling up Colvin. Its not like theres a better option, so why not give him a look.
  15. This proposal from MLBTR made me throw up in my mouth just a bit
  16. I can almost guarantee that if the Cubs were where they were supposed to be, Colvin would not be getting starts, and probably not called up. He has a good run in AA, so this is basically an audition to see what he can do. Non contenders do it all the time.
  17. Yeah, I didn't have much hope for Fox before this year, but he's shown enough to be given such a job. The fact that he hasn't been traded to an AL team in need of a cheap bat suggests to me there just isn't a market out there for him, so I think I'd rather just keep him in that role. If we had better options, Id be perfectly content with him in the Cliff Floyd or Daryle Ward role. Unfortunately, we do not. We have Bobby Scales and So Taguchi in line in front of him. For some reason, Lou has decided that Fox should be at the far end of the bench and it doesnt make sense to me, especially considering where we are. I know Scales has worked hard to get here, but hes wont be part of this teams future. Fox on the other hand might, so he should be getting some reps in the outfield.
  18. Hes found a spot on the Cubs. Unfortunatley, Lou gave it to Bobby Scales.
  19. Id like to see but I wont: Fukudome CF Baker 2B Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Fox RF Colvin LF Soto C Theriot SS The Gorz Im more likely to see Fukudome CF Theriot SS Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Fontneot 2B Taguchi LF Hill C Colvin RF Gorz
  20. I guess what it comes down to is that is not an exculsive club. While there are those of us that are die hards, and there are those who tune in when the team is doing good, thats just the way it is. Its not like we can force peple to have to sit through a few years of crappy Cubs teams before they earn the right to watch a good one. Yeah, the last few years there were a lot of new fans jumping on the bangdwagon, but I didnt have the right to pull them inside and make then watch and the entire 2006 season or a DVD of the Riggelman years before they could watch last year.
  21. The Yankees will outbid us for Figgins, and Hendry will have to look elsewhere for his speedy leadoff hitter. Scott Podsednik gets a 3/25.
  22. I think you're confused about what a "copout" is. So are you saying I have a responsibility to stand by the Cubs, no matter how poorly run they are, no matter how unpleasant they are to watch? No matter how many predictably stupid moves they make, even though I'm powerless to change these things? Okay, then, I happily admit I'm "copping out" of my sacred responsibility as a Cubs fan, whenever it suits me. My point was that people are responsible for their own choices, and if you reach a point where your decision to be a Cubs fan is making your life miserable, it's a copout to say you can't change it. Whether or not to follow the team is ultimately the only power you DO have in this situation, and you'd be a fool to rule it out over some archaic romantic idea that it's in your blood or some crap like that. I hear you. When it comes to the Cubs and Bears, Im in it through thick and thin, but as far a The Bulls go, when they're good, Ill watch them, when there not, Im not. Ive never really been an NBA or NHL fan, but anytime a local team (aside from the Whitte Sox) look playoff bound, I figure that I can at least give them a look see. Same for the Blackhawks.
  23. No. no props to Hendry. Hendry gets no props. He took an already bad situation and made it worse. Hes officially destroyed any chance that Bradley is back next year or we get anything of worth in return for him. For that, Jim Hendry does not get props.
  24. I often say that if I could stop being a fan I would, but I dont even know if thats true. I enjoy it. Unlike other dissapointments in life, The Cubs are a dissapointment that I always know I can vent about with a lot of people, and they'll vent right back. Yeah, ultimately at one point or other in the season, I'll end up dissapointed, but I want to be there when they finally bring home a championship.
