  1. The one upside of Rowand would be that it would piss off White Sox fans to the degree that DeRosa to the Cardinals pissed us off, especially if Rowands even slightly productive.
  2. Why would they DFA him after stashing him on the 25 man roster all season? They wouldn't keep him here all year if they didn't think there was some upside. Didnt they have to keep him on the 25 man this season to keep him, but after 1 year we can do whatever with him, at least I thought thats how Rule 5s work. Either way, he'll probable end up in Iowa. Guz and Marmol are the only guarantees in the pen, and Stevens, Gaub, Marshall or Gorz, Caridad, and Heilman will probably round it out, plus they seem intent on resigning Grabow so you can bump 1 of the others off the list.
  3. Impressive. 2 RBI and a complete game shut out for Z behind the worst Cubs lineup Ive seen since the ealry 90's.
  4. Im guessing he gets the chance to earn a spot in the pen, if that doesnt work out, hes DFAd, if he makes it through, off to Iowa.
  5. Go for the bigger package. The problem is the package would likely consist of at least Bradley, Vitters, 1 of Cashner/Jackson/Carpenter and probably another prospect, and wed probably turn either guy into Juan Pierre. Done. It's not those prospects would turn into superstars with the cubs. Because if the cubs can turn proven players into bad players they would turn those prospects into really bad players. I doubt the rays would want Vitters anyway. They would probably want Castro since they are already are set at the corner infield spots for the forseeable future. Sell them on Barney. Which is unlikely, but worth a shot. Selling them on Sam Fuld for David Price is worth a shot, but wont amount to anything.
  6. That was mentioned somewhere. Doesn't make any sense to me. I think it was Bruce Miles who said that they wouldnt want to risk offering arb.
  7. I know Lous says what he really wants a "big bat", but Id gladly take a legit 5 tool player like Crawford over 100 Mike Camerons, Pat Burrells,or Bobby Abreus.
  8. When I first saw this thread title I thought it was some "headline" from The Heckler or Deadspin, but the fact that its true makes it more bizarre.
  9. John Olerud and Tim Salmon in round 3 say hi. Jeff Bagwell and Scott Erickson from round 4. Reading is a skill. Thanks. Although he kinda worded it weird. Lucky for me you were here. Also Charles Johnson and Cal Eldred say hello. Im not going to lose a wink of sleep over Cal Eldred, but Johnson would have been an upgrade over every catcher we had between Jody Davis and Geovany Soto, aside from Rick Wilkens 1 good year, and Joe Girardi and Damon Berryhill need not say hi.
  10. Go for the bigger package. The problem is the package would likely consist of at least Bradley, Vitters, 1 of Cashner/Jackson/Carpenter and probably another prospect, and wed probably turn either guy into Juan Pierre. That wouldn't be so bad if we were able to get Crawford to agree to a two/three-year deal as part of the trade. I concur 100%
  11. Flash in the pan. He blows worst first round pick ever. Drew Hall, Ty Griffin, and Earl Cunningham say hi.Let me guess you prolly would have rather drafted Frank Thomas than Earl Cunningham? Your loss. Those two were in the same draft class? Yikes. If it makes you feel any better, between Thomas at #8 and Mo Vaugh and Chuck Knoblauch at 23 and 25 respectively there really wasnt much to speak of in that draft.
  12. Go for the bigger package. The problem is the package would likely consist of at least Bradley, Vitters, 1 of Cashner/Jackson/Carpenter and probably another prospect, and wed probably turn either guy into Juan Pierre.
  13. Flash in the pan. He blows worst first round pick ever. Drew Hall, Ty Griffin, and Earl Cunningham say hi. As do Lou Montanez, Bobby Brownlie, Ryan Harvey, and Mark Pawalek.
  14. according to WSCR, this is more than speculation, and Tampa is still interested in Bradley. I really think this is the best thing we could get if we traded Bradley.Or maybe we could put together a bigger package for Crawfor or Upton, depending on who they decide to move, if either.
  15. Apparently, according to Mully and Hanley, Harden requested to be shut down for the remained of the season, and they were ripping him hard for it. Im not too bothered for it. I mean we knew what we were getting when we traded for him, and ace caliber pitcher whose going to be hurt a good part of the time. And even if hes done as a Cub, which seems likely, its not like we gave up a kings ranso for him. We gave up Gallagher, who lessthan a year later was a PTBNL for Scott freaking Hairston, We gave up Murton, whose now in Colorodo and we could probably get him back for nothing if we wanted him back, and we gave up Eric Patterson, whose Eric Patterson and Josh Donaldson, who may or may not ever play in the majors. In the end, I dont regret 1 minute of the Rich Harden era, but if its over, so be it.
  16. Suck it :rotfl: Jeff Bleepin' Baker! Good news is that Hendry will surely sign him now. :) No need to sign him as hes under the Cubs control, and it is a good thing if they sign him. Baker is a valuable guy Between Baker and Fontenot, theres really no reason to try to sign another second baseman, especially with the more obvious holes that will be opening up after this season.
  17. Fuku RF Blanco SS Lee 1B Hoff LF Font 2B Baker 3B Hill C Colvin CF Demp P Now thats what I call a forfeit lineup.
  18. Id definitely be interested in Pat the Bat. It would be a horrible outfield defensively, but the Rays were very interested in MB last offseason. Burrell has had a very forgettable season, but he could be the best return were going to get.
  19. Bradley tried to at the beginning of the year, and the Cubs made him. I still don't really know why. Taming of the Shrew/My Fair Lady syndrom. Hendry wantd to prove to the world that under his proper guidenceBradley could not only be productive for an entire season, but he could make a proper englishman out of him.
  20. Either way we are screwed. I'd rather get rid of him and be sucky, then have to deal with this again and still be sucky next year. The most important issue is to be not sucky next year. Trying to make the Bradley situation work is the best way to do that. Which is to get rid of him. Ideally, if you can trade him for something decent without being saddled with the contract, sure. But it's really stupid to just dump him and pick up the tab. Bradley's idiocy is not why the team struggled. This was not a chemistry issue. This was a flawed team that had its flaws exposed. But whats the point of dumping him now? His trade value cant get any lower, so why not give him a chance next year, and if it doesnt work out, dump him mid season. Either we eat 21 million in the winter or eat slightly less in the summer.
  21. That wont do. He needs to send out cards. And a box of chocolates for each player. And Im not talking that Whitmans crap, Im talking Godiva.
  22. Im wondering if there is any chance of us getting Bay or Holliday. I know it would be expensive, but as of now, Jeff Baker has done all he can to show us that we dont need to go after a second baseman. If we let Harden fly, there are much worse number 5 starters than Marshall or Gorz out there. Between Fontenot, Fox, Hoffpauir, Scales, Blanco, Fuld, Colvin, Hill, and the unfortunate existance of Aaron Miles, theres no reason whatsoever to sign any bench players. Save a few more bucks by letting Johnson, Grabow, and Gregg go as well. Therefore, if Ricketts were to give Hendry 1 last chance to clean up his mess, just go for Bay or Holliday and thats the only offseason move wed need to make.
  23. Why are you so obsessed with lineup order? Sombody asked you who the better options are. You still haven't said any. How are we going to afford a "middle of the order hitter"? We might not even be able to afford to offer Harden arbitation, and we're supposed to be able to get some badass hitter this offseason? Mike Cameron is an .800 OPS center fielder with awesome defense. There's a very very good chance that is our best option. The better option is the guy were already [expletive] paying. Im sick of the clubhouse cancer noise. Bradley was dissapointing this year, but thats all you can blame him for, not the disapointing play of Soriano, Soto, or anyone else. As Ive said before, if Milton Bradley helps the Cubs win the 2010 World Series, there will be a lot of forgiveness to go around. Even if we dump Bradley for nothing and sign Cameron for 10 mil, were essentialy paying Cameron 30 mil to not be an a hole.
  24. 1. If the front office is professional and care about winning, they wouldn't allow a bridge to be burnt. 2. See #1 3. I don't give a [expletive] about the fans. 4. I care even less about the media. 5. See #1. I don't necessarily disagree that the way Milton is might leave him beyond repair in this environment, but if he wants to come back and the Cubs don't have an open dialogue about it because he hurt somebody's feelings then they're idiots. The best use of Bradley's 10M salary next year is it being spent on him playing for the Cubs, not being spent on him not playing for the Cubs, or being spent +8M more on Magglio Ordonez or whatever other overpriced crap is out there. Let's pretend that Bradley and the front office come together and make up with Bradley apologizing to everyone. Do you really believe that Bradley can keep his head screwed on when the fans and the media get on him (which they certainly will). The first time he strikes out, misses a game, or is asked a question from the media, Mount Milton will erupt. BTW, I think everyone agrees that a mentally-controlled Milton Bradley is the best answer to the RF problem, but does such a person exist? Theres really no point in not giving him another chance. Hi trade value is as lo as it can possibly get, so why not let him com into spring training, start the season, and see what happens. If we get rid of him, were eating the contract, so why does it matter if that happens this winter or next summer?
  25. maybe we should just trade for albert pujols. We could always, you know, keep Milton Bradley, and if he has a problem he can opt out of his contract. I really cant justify paying Bradley 20 mil to play elsewhere, and meanwhile sign Cameron to an additional 10 mil.
