  1. Heres another of note. Many have him pegged as the Cubs target but MLBTR has him with the Pads. We all know that the Pads are in desperate need of offense, but I dont see Cameron as a guy who could help them out. You cant take a guy with mediocre offensive stats and put him in one of the worst hitters parks in the game and expect results. Cameron doesn't have mediocre offensive stats. OK, he has decent-good offensive stats, and I am in the early stages of warming up to the idea of him thanks some posters here. However, he'll be 37 by opening day, and the Padres are not in the kind of position where a 37 year old with good offensive stats is going to do anything for them. They need to be either A. building a young team around Adrian or B. trading Adrian for the kind of players that could help them compete in the next 3-5 years. I know the NL West isnt exactly a star studded division, but the Padres are just plain bad. On the other hand, the Cubs are in the position where he could be very helpfull as a number 2 or number 5/6 batter in the lineup. Bottom line is Cameron is the type of player who could help a contender get better, but theres no point in him signing with a rebuilding team whose several years away from anything.
  2. Heres the latest from MLBTR. Nothing groundbreaking.

  4. Im not particularly against Wagner if he was on a cheap 1 year deal, but if we only have salary space for 1 free agent, there are bigger concerns. Even if we did get a 3rd outfielder through trade, Id rather go after a mid rotation starter than an over the hill closer. Just because the Brewers caught lightening in a bottle with Trevor Hoffman doesnt mean we will.
  5. Fuld has no business being a 4th outfielder for a big market major league team. He's a bad version of Scott Posednik. so scott podsednik then Podsednik cant field to save his life anymore, and thats where Fuld excels. However, offensively, Id say Pods is Fulds ceiling, and Id take that.
  6. Sam Fuld, Jake Fox, Micah Hoffpauir, and Brad Snyder are all chep 4th outfielder candidates. What we need is a 3rd outfielder. A healthy Baldelli could be just that, but then again, a healthy Mark Prior would be a good staff ace.
  7. I didnt think this deserved its own thread, so I figured Id hijack this one for a moment. While I dont knowmuch about Thames defense, he is the offensive equivelent of Cameron, so why not get him for cheaper instead? If we must get as player we dont really want, may as well be the cheapest one.
  8. I didnt want Cameron before, and I dont want him now, but the one benefit to him would be that Kosuke could go back to RF where hes just about the best in the business, and wed have a very strong defensive outfield, at least the right side.
  9. I wont know whether to laugh or cry when the Cubs offseason consists of signing Mark DeRosa and trading Milton Bradley for Kerry Wood.
  10. Interesting move. The Brewers could have at least got a solid 3-4 starter for Hardy rather than a light hitting speedster. Makes one wonder if they plan on shopping Fielder or Weeks for a starter.
  11. I really hope that we can make Diamond work. Its about time we got one of those former top prospect reclamation project success stories.
  12. I dont care what anyone says, Hermida would have been a cheap option for us, considering whats out there. Maybe Jaramillo could have helped Hermida, and if not, we wouldnt have given up too much that it would matter.
  13. The Cubs need to give up on the idea of a "savior". It wasnt Soriano, it wasnt Fukudome, it wasnt Harden, and it damn sure wasnt Bradley. What we need to focus on is another quality bat in the lineup for the 5 spot. What Milron Bradley was supposed to be, and what I think he still could be.
  14. My real feeling is that if we cant get what we really want, rather than sign another Jeromy Burnitz or Todd Hollandsworth, between Johnson, Fuld, Fox, Hoffpauir, and Brad Snyder, we have a 3rd outfielder, and when the time comes, if necessary, we can make a mid season trade. Otherwise, were more than likely looking at a downgrade from Bradley. The other options are: David DeJesus who may or may need be an upgrade over Reed Johnson Mike Cameron, who wed over pay for, and wed probably be on the books for him and whatever we eat of Bradleys Brad Hawpe, who cant play defense Pat Burrell who really cant play defense Gary Matthews Jr. who cant play baseball a whole host of other over the hillers than Hendry would love the opportunity to over pay for IE Ken Griffey Jr, Garrett Anderson, Jermaine Dye
  15. So what about: Cubs get Brad Hawpe Braves get Milton Bradley(they want a righty bat) Rockies get Derrek Lowe(assuming he waives his NTC) Id assume wed have to send a prospect or 2 to one of the other teams as well.
  16. The Red Sox quest to aquire every player in the history of baseball continues. I believe BJ Surhoff and Steve Trout are next on their list.
  17. Jim Hendry is likely one of those people.
  18. Shark definitely needs work but Marshall and Gorzelanny getting starts aren't necessarily bad things. Id be fine with either Marshall or Gorz as a 5th starter, but Wells/Marshall/Gorz as 3/4/5 doesnt exactly make for a steller pitching staff. Uh, of course not. When does using backups ever make for a stellar pitching staff? The Cubs are hopefully in the situation where using the backups is tolerable as opposed to "well, now we're [expletive]." Im just saying, Id be a lot more comfortable if we found a way to aquire another starter one way or another.

  20. Teahens a good player, but Im surprised that the Sox are giving up Getz. He was starting to really come inot his own. I guess the plan is for Teahen to play 3rd with Beckhem and Ramirez at SS and 2B
  21. We have some pride. The reality is, Delwyn Young is not an everyday major league 2B. OK, this argument could be made about some other guys on the team too. But, allegedly, we have guys in the minors who realistically could make a push for those jobs this year. We have absolutely no one for the middle infield with more than a remote chance of being an everyday player this year. Ronny Cedeno says hi.
  22. Hinske, Marte, and Molina were also the same basic role palyers every team has, so why soulndt they deserve a ring? Should only The starters and Rivera get rings?
  23. I must have missed the part where we have a better internal option right now if Bradley has to leave, as you have said numerous times. Obviously, the Cubs don't have an internal option to start. Fuld is a wonderful story, but he's not a ML starter. My opinion is that Bradley has to leave, but the only opinions that count are the Cubs' front office and they seem to agree. As of now, there is about 8 million dollars to work with. Depending on what is done with Bradley, a few more bucks could be freed up. Lou has stated that he wants a speedy leadoff hitter and an RBI producer. More than likely , he gets 1 of the 2, and it will be a CF or a RF. Im going to guess that they go with an RBI guy. Im guessing thtat its Hawpe, Hermida, or Burrell. I doubt that Fuld is a starter for us, but Id be surprised if he doesnt earn a bench job.
  24. Other guys who just got a ring who make you say : Eric Hinske Damaso Marte Jose Molina Nick Swisher There's at least three or four every year who get a ring by virtue of being the backup catcher or the 24th or 25th man on a World Series-winning roster. Do we realize that So Taguchi and David Eckstein have two rings EACH? Doesnt everyone who was on the team during the season get a ring? I believe Nomar got a ring in 2004.
