  1. Forget it then, they can keep Granderson. I don't want to trade Castro or Vitters unless we are getting a Hanley or Ryan Braun type player. I'd rather have Sam Fuld play CF next year than trade away any of our top 4 (Castro, Vitters, Cashner, B Jackson), and I'd like to not trade J Jackson, or Lee either, but for Granderson I would if the deal was right. Yeah, Id just assume sign a Mike Cameron or hell, even take a gamble on Baldelli or Nady than empty out the farm. Granderson is a very good player, but not the type thats going tp push us over the top.
  2. Yeah, they have Kyler in their projected starting line-up in 2012, but not in the Top 10 prospects. Seems like a disconnect there. Im really shocked that Jackson has leapfrogged VItters and Cashner in the BA list. Not a bad thing, just means that our system has some depth. Also, as far as the NSBB list, I thought that Coleman would have been there, but I have no complaints with the list. For once, Im really excited about our farm system and hope we dont trade any key players for rent a players. With Ricketts love for the farm system,, I wouldnt think that would be a problem anyway. Just out of curiosity, does Wellington Castillo even register anymore?
  3. One of those young types that Hawk Harrelson drools over when the Twins come to town while his beloved White Sox aquire every 35+ year old they can get their hands on.
  4. If by a better Derosa you mean a worse Bradley, then yes.
  5. He'll make Yankees fans very happy in the not too distant future.
  6. I dont think we can afford to give up Soto. I agree, that he'll srttle somewhere between '08 and '09, but I dont think we can make do with a Hill/Robinson catching tandem and hope and wait for Castillo or Clevenger to come into their own. I would give up Theriot, however with Castro so close to ready. I would part with Theriot/Wells/Guzman and add someone like Fox as a throw in, and try to get a pitcher for Bradley.
  7. If we are emptying the farm, meaning Vitters and Castro getting traded, Hendry might as well include Jackson, Carpenter or Cashner and try to get Verlander involved. Pass. Verlander is decent, but he's not worth emptying the farm over. He's been a 3-4 win player his whole career and put up an 8.2 WAR this year. I still wouldn't empty the farm for him. If your going to "empty the farm" for anyone, we better be talking about someone like Johan or Pujols.
  8. Im not trying to sound like an ass, but it has been the most active thread on the board for a few days now.
  9. I think that's a little harsh. Would anyone here seriously not deal either one of those guys for Granderson straight up? I honestly wouldn't trade either of them, probably. I'd have hesitations about Castro, but I'd ultimately do it. I'd deal Vitters for Granderson in a heartbeat. Theres no way in hell Id do both. Do that, and the farm system that Rickets seems very interested in building goes back to the bottom of the barrell.
  10. Thats sounds like an OK deal, as long as they dont mind throwing in Verlander. On a serious note, I like that Castro is known outside the Cubs circle and that other teams fans are seeing him as a legit prospect.
  11. i feel like everyone is calling him a platoon cf to say that he's not very good. Because he's not. He's a platoon player. They are 3 million dollar type players. Not 7-10 mill. Well that's just stupid. Fine, hes a "platoon player", weve beaten this topic to death, but what some just dont seem to get is that hes on the right side of the platoon. Theres a lot more righties than lefties, and thats why a guy who can mash righties but not lefties is worth the 7-10 mil and a guy like Reed Johnson whose on the other side is worth 3 mil at best. As said earlier, theres arent a lot of tough lefties out there, at least in the NL. I know he cant hit bad lefites well either, but hopefully, our offense is good enough vs. the weaker lefties than we can stand to have him toward the end of the lineup in those games, and when facing the Johans and Kershaws, start Johnson, or whoevers on the other side of the platoon.
  12. OK, so he cant hit lefties to save his life. The question is, can he hit righties good enough to make it worth our while to trade for him, and have someone like Fuld start in center once a week vs a lefty, especially considering that the majority of pitchers are right handed? The rest of our team can hit lefties well enough that other teams arent going to stack us with lefties because of 1 guy.
  13. But how many really tough lefty starters are even in the NL? JOhan Santana, Cole Hamels, and Clayton Kershaw, and wed face each of them twice at most during the regular season.
  14. I really dont see Granderson as a platoon player. Maybe give him an off day vs. a tough lefty, but other than that, hes an everyday guy. Im sure he'd come face to face with a lot of loogys late in games, but if hes surrounded by Ramirez and Soriano, it shouldnt be too big of a problem. I wouldnt give up Castro for him, but just about anyone else should be available. Id rather not give up Cashner, Vitters, or Jackson, but if one of them were required to pull it off, Id say make it happen. I would not, however give up more than one of the above. And I know there arent a lot of Edwin Jackson fans, but how would people feel about: Marmol, Marshall, Theriot, Colvin, and Fox for Granderson and Jackson?
  15. SInce this seems to have taken over as the all purpose Bradley thread, Ill just put this here. I know Sonnanstine had a season to forget last years, but I cant not be enticed by this idea. If were going to end up eating a big chunk of money either way, rather than a middle of the road middle infielder or a DH, why not get a high reward type of pitcher? I dont know if the Rays would do this, but I would in a minute. I dont think the Rays would use a guy like Sonnanstine as a "throw in" anyway, but still, I like the thought.
  16. If we were trying to get Pujols or Hanley, wed be looking at packages like Marmol Castro, Viters, Cashner, and Jackson. Were talking about a shortstop with a decent contact bat and below average glove, a reliever with control issues, and a few mid level propspects or spare parts here. If we were to propose Theriot, Marmol, and Colvin for Hanley Ramirez, the Marlins would hang up without a 2nd thought. A Package including Theriot, marmol, colvin is a decent package for Granderson, though you might have to include one more mid level prospect like caridad. Comparing to what the angels will offerr that might center around wood, i would argue that Detroit might value Marmol way more than Wood because if there was one thing that hurt the tigers last year, it was the bullpen. I agree, add something like Caridad or Stevens to that mix, perhaps Fox if they prefer a bat, but there are some who seem to feel that we should be throwing them a pile of garbage for Granderson because he cant hit lefties.

  18. Looks like th Angels are in on Granderson as well.
  19. Excellent question. Lets go over a short list of teams that could go after Granderson, a very solid center fielder who will be up for a contract soon: Red Sox: They have a solid center fielder in Ellsbury, but could Granderson be a cheaper option for them than Bay or Holliday? Mets: They're looking for another bat. Again, would be cheaper than Bay or Holliday. Braves: They have stated that they want another outfield bat, but they want a righty. Cardinals: Do they have the trade chips left after last season? and of course.... The Yankees: If they choose to let Matsui and Damon go, and not shell out for Bay or Holliday, he could be an option for them. With all the money on their books, they might prefer a trade over another massive contract. The Cubs are right up there. we definitely have the need for a center fielder. Granderson would fit our bill. Hes owed 5.5 mil in 2010, and then goes up to 8.25 in '11 and 10 mil in '12 and then a 13 mil option for '13. I say we go for it. Maybe start with a package like Fontenot, Marshall, Colvin, and a prospect or 2, and see where it goes from there. I don't have a problem with the package deal you suggested because Fontenot, Marshall, and Colvin are extra pieces. In my opinion, giving up young ML players who are a vital part of the team or top positional prospects that we've been waiting for isn't the right route to go for Granderson. that's fine, but you aren't getting him that way. he's a very good player and there's no reason for the tigers to accept mediocrity for him. Its a starting point. A lot of people are seriously undervaluing Granderson if they arent willing to part with Theriot for him. Id do that in a heartbeat and happily live with Blanco at the 8 spot in the lineup. The above package is a starting point, but something along the lines of Theriot, Samardzjia(Im sure hed waive his NTC at this point), Colvin, Gaub/Stevens sounds very fair. If they demanded Marmol instead of Shark along with Theriot, even that would be worth it as long as were willing to go out another closer such as Valverde or Soriano.

The question is, do other teams see these guys are valuable? Sometimes, when you see players as spare parts, other teams are interested in them. It would depend on the prospect(s). Would they demand a Castro,Cashner, or Jackosn type, or would they settle for a major league ready AAA player like Gaub, Barney, or Stevens or a lesser lower level prospect? I know it was a different situation, but what got us Harden was: Murton: spare part-Fontenot, Fox, Fuld, or Hoffpair could fit the mold Patterson: Major league ready AAA player. Colvin would fit that mold Gallagher: solid pitching prospect/young pitcher: Marshall or Samardzjia could fit. low level prospect(not top shelf)-someone like Castillo, Cales, Watkins, Archer etc, or pehaps a more major league ready Gaub or Stevens type instead.

  22. Looks like he thinks that Geovany will level out as a decent offensive catcher, and he seems to like Jake Fox.
  23. Trade Bradley for squat pick up most of the contract, and sign 2 big money free agents. sheer brilliance. Why didnt I think of that?
  24. Hes everything Lou has been looking for. Hes a lefty. he mashes righties, he plays a great center field. I hope we dont part with Castro, Vitters, Cashner, or Jackson, but I wouldnt mind putting together a nice prospect package for him.
