  1. This guy wa shaping up to be a very good player before his concussion. I dont know much about his defense, but he could be a very good buy low candidate, certainly better than Marlon Byrd or Scott Podsednik.
  2. I guess the 2 AL teams that would stand out as the most "surprising" would be the Twins or Red Sox.
  3. I really hope that Mr. Ricketts is taking a long hard look at what his [expletive] GM has done and is continuing to do to his team over the last year.
  4. 10 bucks says it's Oakland. Maybe Bradley and cash for Mark Ellis. I believe Ellis is owed a simliar amount as Luis Castillo. Jeff Baker>Mark Ellis. Theres really no reason Jim Hendry should have a job at this point.
  5. Id like Cameron. I guess I could live with Byrd, although Id really rather get something better. However, if we trade Bradley for peanuts, and turn around and sign Scott freaking Podsednik, whose basically an older, injury prone Sam Fuld, I think its high time we all pool our money, buy the Cubs, and fire Jim Hendry immediately.
  6. Could be an interesting reclamation project following his injury. He walked a lot more batters in 2008 compared to 2007, which makes me wonder whether his struggles could be attributed to injury/fatigue or whether something more troubling happened to him. At least he'll be easy to heckle if he sucks.
  7. Wolf did have himself a pretty impressive 2009, but judging by his past track record, theyd basically be getting themselves another Jeff Supan type, so more power to em.
  8. Say what you well about Penny, but adding a solid #3 starter to one of the best 1-2 SP punches in the league is pretty big for the Cards, assuming he can stay healthy, and of course Carpenter can stay healthy. Of course their bullpen still leaves much to be desired, and who out there really believes that Ryan Franklin will repeat 2009?
  9. If this is the case, I imagine that we can bury the Luis Castillo rumors, unless they plan on using Fontneot as trade bait. With Theriot, Baker, Font, and Blanco, I cant imagine adding another middle infielder.
  10. Come on, lets get all the pixie dust/25 game winner/Cy Young talk out of the way.
  11. I wonder if perenial trade target David DeJesus is involved.
  12. This doesnt look like any such trade has gone down already, unless for some strange reason there was a trade in volving Burrell to the Mets with the Cubs involved without Bradley.
  13. What deals have Hendry and Cashman done in the past? Keep in mind that Hendry is generally very good at trades. I would not be in favor of acquiring Melky, though. Stick with Cameron. I know Brian Cashman and the Yankees dont give up guys for nothing.
  14. I dont think that Cabrera would be any better than Marlon Byrd, and knowing Jim Hendry and Brian Cashman, wed end up waaaaay overpaying for Cabrera, probably a package similar than what wed give up for Granderson.
  15. Im not a Luis Castillo fan by any means, but at this point, I hope to God thats who we get because the only other option I can think of is Oliver Perez. Hopefully we can just turn around, sign Camreron and call it an off season.
  16. Why? Because you said so. At what point does the organization give these guys a legitimate chance? Ricketts isn't going to approve $150+ payroll so at some point the team is going to have to count on their young players to produce. It is funny that most people ridicule Hendry for his free agent signings, but yet trust he will do the right thing in their mind and only sign Cameron to a one year deal similar to Bobby Abreu last winter. Didn't the re-signing of Grabow illustrate the opposite. Sam Fuld has done nothing to show that he deserves a "legitimate chance" to be a fulltime OFer or even a regular platoon OFer. It's one thing to actually let good prospects get a chance...it's something totally different to let mediocre at the very best prospects get a chance as a fulltime player. Sam Fuld's performance in the majors is the epitome of sample size results. There's absolutely nothing in his career up until that point that inidcates he'd be able to sustain close to those numbers barring a miracle. Its no secret Im a fan of guys like Fuld, Fox, and Colvin being brought up to fill bench spots rather than pay a mil+ to guys like Gathright or Miles, but you cant take guys like this and throw them into the line of fire. When these types of players come up, they are bench guys or spot starters, unless specifically brought in as a short term answer to fill a hole left by injury. Trading Bradley and starting the season with an unproven player in a starting role like that would be inexcuseable, club house cancer or not.
  17. Not sure, but I don't think he was making commentary on defense. I think he was calling Fox and Reed primarily PH's. Or maybe he was saying Hoffpauir and Fox were primarily PH's. Actually, I have no idea what he meant. It is pretty obvious he is talking about Floyd and Ward. The fact that they both rarely if ever played at the same time hurts the point of his argument a bit but I don't think it is too hard to figure out that is who he was referring to since he mentioned them in his first sentence. Ward and Floyd is correct. They were both on the 2007 team, and neither were much good with the glove. My arguement is if we had 2 guys like that on the 2007 team, we could live with 1, Burrell next year if we were to get him for Bradley and sign Cameron.
  18. Could be lingering effects of that nasty concussion he had, or could also be that he didn't handle the ravenous dimensions of Safeco well. Oh yeah, he had that wicked collision with Beltran. I forgot about that. I remember you could almost hear the thud when they played it on sports center.
  19. Is Burrells defense really any worse than Floyd and Ward were a few years ago? I figure if we were able to make it with 2 guys who were essentially DHs in 2007, we could live with 1 this year, and hed be a great bat off the bench, especially now that Fox and probably Reed are gone and were left without a right handed option off the bench. I say if we make this trade, keep Burrell and let Baker play 2nd with Theriot as short and Blanco as the utility MI.
  20. Wins have been the #1 standard for the effectiveness of a starter since baseball began. And they were a lot more meaningful back then when your average pitcher went 8-9 innings rather than 5-7.
  21. =D> Is this more or less imminent than the 3 way deal was a few weeks ago, or the Roberts or Peavy trades were. When it comes to Cubs trades, the word imminent is translated to mean possible.
