I suggested this awhile ago when the rumors started about Jenks possibly being DFAed. The WS could certainly use an OF/DH with Dye and Posednick leaving and Quentin as a question mark. The discussion did bring up the Ozzie/Bradley circus, but maybe Ozzie might be the kind of manager that Bradley needs (if such a manager does exist). Would the WS go for Bradley + Berg/Stevens + $6 million for Jenks? If the WS want Fox, we can add Fox and cut the money to $4 million. I dont know if they would go for Bradley, but if Fox isnt enough, maybe they would go for Fox+Fuld, whose a younger Podsednik+one of Berg/Stevens. Maybe even Fontenot instead of Fuld.

If the White Sox are considering non tendering him, then surely theyd rather get something in return. Fox would be a great fit for them as a DH instead of going after another old guy.

Hes arb eligible, and due a raise to about 6 mil, and the some think they Sox would rather move Thornton to closer and save the money.

Havnt heard this anywhere, Im just putting it out there. I know Jenks has gone through some rough patches, but hed be a low risk guy with only a 1 year comitment. Maybe the Sox could get more for Jenks, nut Williams and Guillen have both openly critizized Jenks, and many believe his time is up on the South Side, and has even been considered a non tender candidate. Maybe a switch to the NL could be just the thing the big guy needs. Meanwhile, Fox who has no future with the Cubs, or the NL in general could save the White Sox from spending a few mil on someone like Thome, Vlad, or Dye. Theyve been looking for a new DH, and with the recent aditions of Peavy and Rios, God knows they could stand to save a few bucks somewhere. Now before I get attacked for proposing this, keep in mind Im not proposing Vitters, Castro, or Cashner for Bobby Jenks, just a guy whose basically a spare part to us.

I think if we really wanted Halladay and refused to part with Castro or Cashner, a package would look something like: Josh Vitters 1 of Marshall, Gorzo, Samardzjia-assuming hed accept a trade to the Great White North 1 of Jay Jax Archer, Coleman, Dolis, Carpenter, Huseby 1 of Flaherty, Burke, Castilo, Watkins, HJ Lee, something like Colvin, Fontenot, Fox, or Hoffpauir, as a throw in or as an alternative, either Bradley+cash or Bradley to TB for Burrell and send Pat the Bat to Toronto. Wed probably end up with some kind of throw in in the deal as well. yeah, its giving up a lot, but if we really want him, he wont come cheap, especially if were not giving up Castro or Cashner

The good thing about being a big market team is that once that window closes, it only takes a few years for another one to open, unlike teams like the Brewers or Royals where once they lose their window, anothe can take decades. That is, as long as Ricketts continues to run the team like a big market team.

Worth the Loss of Mark DeRosa

Was DeRosa a fan favorite? yes. a great player? yes. would he have saved the 2009 season from mediocrity? doubtfull. Thereofre, in hind sight, it was worth it. -
You want to give up 3 of our top 10 prospects, a young cheap MLB proven starter and a good bullpen arm for ONE year of Halladay? Unless the Cubs feel like they are a WS contender there is no reason to empty the farm for one year of a player. Even then, I'd prefer they spend all those prospects on a top notch impact bat. If It was a guarantee that we could lock him up for 3-4 years, then I would do it, but if he said he was going to test the FA market after this year, AKA wait for a bidding war betwen the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, and Mets, then no.

I agree with those picks. Of those unprotected, I could see teams plucking: -Papelbon as a loogy, maybe by the Red Sox to keep the whole family together -Robinson or Clevenger could interest teams as a backup catcher -Adduci, Lalli, and Reinhard are also possibilities.

Never challenge worse. We could very wake up tomoorow morning to see Bradley, Castro, and Cashner traded for Sarge Jr. and a 4/35 contract to Juan Uribe.

you misread something. next year will be the last year of his contract and he'll make 12m No, it's his signing bonus. They had deferred it until 2011, before it starts getting paid. By the looks of what was said in the original post, we'd be on the hook for all of it..... my fault, it was me that misread it. u read it as 15 mil a year from 11-15 so would the cubs definitely be on the hook for that? if so, that would be a garbage trade. millwood is terrible. so who is ready for an april rotation of zambrano/dempster/millwood/wells/marshall? ugh. we thought last offseason was ugly. i think this one is going to top that. Getting Millwood as a #4 or #5 starter is great. Don't forget that his ERA should improve by moving to the NL. When Lilly comes back, Gorz, Shark, and Marshall will provide lots of depth for the rotation. Millwood might end up being a trade chip at the deadline if one of the younger pitchers does well. The bottom line is that any deal that gets rid of Bradley and Miles in one swoop can't be all bad. I really doubt that there is or was a chance of re signing Harden, so as far as Im concerned, an April rotation of Z/Demp/Milwood/Wells/Samarshallanny looks a lot better than one of Z/Demp/Wells/SamarshallannyX2

Nothing Kaplan says is worth much and I have no idea who wrote this, but Bradley and Miles for Milwood would be nice. While I think Bradley will do better next year, being able to ship him and atrocity of Aaron Miles for a pitcher like Milwood isn't a bad deal. Id actually be quite impressed if this happens. Not only do we get something of value for Bradley, but we get rid of Miles as well. As long as we still have a plan to fill the empty piutfield spot, itn works for me.

Yeah,that doesnt make a lot of sense. Either way, we dont have a "sink hole" at second anyway. If we couldnt get ahold of Granderson or Cameron, I might be interested in DeRosa in right if he came cheap enough.
