  1. Id rather have Bradley than the majority of the other options out there, but from what weve heard, thats not going to happen.
  2. [ Hmm, his contract is similar to the remainder of Bradleys. To quote Han Solo, I got a baaaad feeling about this.
  3. Looks like our hitters are doing pretty well, but our pitchers, not so much. I know this is supposed to be a hitters league and a small sample size though.
  4. I still say he ends up with Yanks or Red Sox.
  5. performance enhancing drugs. when said drugs are banned, find new performance enhancing drugs. repeat process.
  6. i understand what you mean...to a degree...but it is kind of like pissing into the wind at this point bradley's ship has sailed far far away from this team But when your dealing with the remaining 20 mil, I think amends can be made. I mean there arent too many options. If Kosuke were to have been the middle of the order hitter he was supposed to be, he could be in RF and lket Fuld and Reed platoon center. If the Rockies were to trade Hawpe, that would be another option, but they reportedly want to hang on to him now. Bay and Holliday are probably out of our price range. Pat Burrell would be a nightb=mare in right, basically a left handed Jake Fox, so basically Micah Hoffpauir. The other options are the likes of Mike Cameron, Jeremy Hermida, and a few others that would be probable downgrades. I guess this is Hendrys chance to do some actual GM work and not just throw money around. I wonder if Jaramillo could fix Hermida. That would be a great and cheap fix to RF. With this I agree, however, if is the key word here.

  8. Unless we get offered a legit replacement for Bradley, or enough money to sign Bay or Holliday I really wish they would hang on to him for another year and see what Rudy J can do for him.
  9. Jaramillo emphasizes a power stroke. I know it's irrational, but I'm sick of seeing guys being pigeonholed as Vince Coleman because they're fast. I hear ya. Everytime a new "5 tool" player steps on the scene, they're the next Rickey Henderson. Doesnt usually pan out that way.
  10. WOW.. I am really intrigued by this kid... Han Ram the second if he fills out maybe? Which will make it all the more maddening when hes traded for a middle reliever in his mid 30's or a Steve Traschle-esque 5th starter at the 2010 deadline.
  11. I would not do it for three reasons: 1) He'll turn 33 in May of next season 2) He'd only be a one year rental 3) If he agrees to an extension, he won't come cheap This team's payroll flexibility leaves a lot to be desired; extending Halladay would most likely restrict the Cubs in future offseasons. I would normally be fine with that with a pitcher of Halladay's caliber, but considering he's on the wrong side of 30, I worry about injuries and a decline in velocity and stuff. Moreover, if he does not sign an extension, that is a steep price to pay for a one year rental. Considering the madness they wanted in return for Halladay at the deadline, it would be more like Vitters, Castro, Jackson, and Cashner.
  12. Looks like its going to happen.
  13. Hopefully hes not the only ex Cardinal on his way out of town.
  14. If our bench consists solely of those guys, that would be awful. The bench shouldn't just be for AAAA players. I'd appreciate some sort of veteran presence who understands the role of a pinch hitter for $1-2 million in addition to those listed. These are guys whop could have been major leaguers but have been onthe wrong team. Besides, weve already tried veteran bench guys. How did Ryan Freel, Aaron Miles, Joey Gathright, Rey Ordonez, Neifi Perez, John Mabry, Enrique Wilson and a few other journeymen I cant think of work out? Fox gives us a 6th oufielder, occasional 3B and 1B, emergency catcher+pop off the bench Hoffpauir gives us a 5th outfielder+backup for Lee+lefty pop off the bench Blanco gives us a great defensive SS/2B plus can hit better than Miles Fuld gives us a great defensive 4th outfielder+ a solid lefty off the bench Fontenot gives us a platoon for Baker if he cant cut it as a starter I want to know what cheap journeyman is out there that will be enough of an upgrade to make it worth out while? Even Bobby Scales is a better option than paying 2-3 mil for another journeyman.
  15. Well, I mean, the second part of that last sentence isn't all that unreasonable. The point is, the complaint seems to be that people complained about firing 2 good hitting coaches. No matter what you want to project on to Hendry, I think most can agree he didn't fire Gerald Perry with the idea of hiring Jaramillo in his head. When a move i stupid on the surface, I'm going to call it stupid rather than trust a blind faith in a GM who hasn't proven he deserves the benefit of the doubt. The thing is, with veteran players, how much good is a hitting coach going to do them? Hopefully he can help Fontenot hit lefties, Reed hit righties, Fox to hit sliders, Soto hit period, but if Perry and Joshua couldnt do it, can this guy? Will he miraculously get Soriano to not swing at every pitch he sees? When your deadling with a lot of vetaran players, theres only so much tweaking that can be done.
  16. That's awesome if true. Yes, if this is true, you have to love Hendry's aggressiveness. AM I the only one who will find it amusing if after millions and millions of dollars worth of overpaid outfielders, 3 million or so for a hiting coach is the final piece of the puzzle? Jaramillo is by no means the final piece of the puzzle. If this is the only move that Hendry makes in the offseason, I don't see it as a productive offseason. It all depends on Milton Bradley. A lot of reports suggest that he and Rudy got along and Rudy was a big part of Miltons success in Texas, although Arlington didnt hurt. If they get Rudy, I can see them giving Milton another chance. IMHO Jeff Baker has earned that 2B job, and Id rather him than over pay for someone like Ploanco, Uribe, Lopez, or Hudson. The bench is set between Fox, Fuld, Fontenot, Hoffpauir, and Blanco. If they want to resign Harden, great. If they can get Valverde for a reasonable price, great, but other than that, unless trading Bradley ends up being worth their while, just go with what we have.

  18. Bruce Miles agrees: I could see this being there 1 offseaon move. If they dont have a lot of money to spend, rather than paying 10 mil or so for an RBI producer, why not pay however much a hitting instructor makes (1-3 mil?) in hopes that he can make the guy who was supposed to be an RBI producer productive?
  19. Ive never been sold on hitting coaches being able to be a big help, however, I suppose Milton Bradley has his career year in Texas. maybe it was Arlington, maybe Rudy was a big part of it. Id be all about bringing on Rudy as a last ditch effort to salvage the Bradley situation.
  20. Kind of the opposite for me. While I wanted the Cardinals to lose more than anything, at least I had something to rout for, or in this case against. Now its just 4 teams, and whatever happens happens. I guess Ill go with the Yankees. My dad is a lifelong Yankees fan, and my first baseball games I ever went to were at the House that Ruth Built.
  21. I saw this on Yahoo. The first thing that game to mind was Fred Merkle, only this time, it was an entire team of Merkles.
  22. that had better be a really good pitching prospect. Just tweak with prospects and/or money That'd require a lot of prospects and/or money. Maybe Fontenot, Fox, Samrdzjia if hed waive his NTC, if not Marshall, and HJ Lee. Maybe throw Aaron Miles if their willing to throw in taking Aaron Miles. However, I really dont see why the Rockies with their outfield log jam would really want Fox, whose essentially a DH/5th outfielder Or, if we could go the way of the 3 way deal Cubs get Hawpe Padres get Milton Bradley(the cash exchange will have to work its way out), 1 of Fox/Hoffpauir/Fuld, Samrdzjia(more likely to wive his NTC for a pitcher friendly park and a good shot at the rotation) Rockies get Chris Young I know, it makes more sense for the Rockies to just trade Hawpe to the Pads for Young.
  23. Keep Milton Bradley around...for now Offer Harden arbitration at 10-11 mil, If he accepts, super. If not, take the picks and let Gorz, Marshall, Shark, and Diamond battle it out for the 5th starter job Spend the entire off season trying to move Aaron Miles.v If there are no takers, let him go unless he dazzes during spring training Let Gregg, Reed Johnson, and Grabow go. Opening day roster is 1B Lee 2B Baker SS Theriot 3B Ramirez LF Soriano CF Fukudome RF Bradley C Soto Bench Fontenot Bench Fox Bench Hoffpauir Bench Fuld Bench Blanco Bench Hill SP Zambrano SP Lilly SP Dempster SP Wells SP Harden/Gorz/Marshall/Shark/Diamond(darkhorse) RP Guz RP Gaub RP Marshall RP Gorz RP Stevens/Berg Closer Marmol
  24. I could have the players confused, but I beleive back in '04 and '05, Cubs v Cardinals, warnings had alrwady been issued. I believe Scott Rolen had just hit a long home run off Big Z. The next batter was Jim Edmonds. Z nails Edmonds with the 1st pitch, turns around and walks off the field.
