  1. Hopefully we play thr Astros again soon. They always give the Cubs trouble and they're on some bizarre hot streak now that they dont have any players that anyones ever heard of left.
  2. So they say he's the second worst .300 hitter this year, then admit that it's his fielding that's dragging his WAR down. So he's not really the 2nd worst hitting .300 hitter? Which, considering the mention his fielding too, means Young isn't the worst hitting .300 hitter? Did I read that right? I'm guessing it's worst overall player who happens to hit .300. Do they take into consideration how many of these .300 hitters are 20 year olds who never played above AA before this season? Even if the power never developes, if he wants to keep racking up doubles and triples, Im OK with that. So basically hes Hanley Ramirez at Wrigley and Ryan Theriot everywhere else. Interesting.
  3. Sure did. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=txrangersprior Good on you, Mark. Maybe he and Rich Harden can share a rotation/DL spot. Good luck Mark.
  4. He has a pretty sweet new album out where he covers old George Gershwin classics.
  5. Kosukes a great guy to have at the 6 or 7 spot, or even 1 or 2, but if we expect him to be our 2nd or 3rd best hitter next year, were in trouble. Kosuke would be the 2nd or 3rd best hitter on half of this year's playoff teams Ill give you the Padres, but if we had and elite hitter like Adrian Gonzalez as your best hitter, we could afford to have Kosuke as your 2nd or 3rd best hitter. Still, I guess I should have been clearer. It wasnt a knock on Kosuke, but if he is our 2nd or 3rd best guy, it suggests that Aramis skipped town and we didnt replace him or improve at 1st base either, probably making Soto our best hitter with Castro and Kosuke as 2nd and 3rd, aside from Sorianos hot streaks. I can see it now: 2B DeWitt SS Castro RF Kosuke C Soto CF Byrd LF Soriano 1B Colvin 3B Baker
  6. Kosukes a great guy to have at the 6 or 7 spot, or even 1 or 2, but if we expect him to be our 2nd or 3rd best hitter next year, were in trouble.
  7. I do, but usualy, the peole that make the lists dont. Once a guy turns 25, they no longer seem to be viewed as a prospect. If you look over the top prospect lists, you usually dont see a lot of 25+ guys.
  8. Neither does Albert, but they say hes pretty good.
  9. It truely warms my heart to see the Cards wet the bed they way they have the 2nd half. It seems as though ever sinve they traded Ludwick, that teams been crap.
  10. Career year on a contract year. Probably going to sucker some team into a 3-4 year deal. Hopefully its the Sox.
  11. marquez smith hit .363/.425/.784/1.209 in august, including 12 home runs. with his homer tonight he has 13 hr in his last 28 games. They've got a regular AAAA murderers row down in Iowa. Too bad Jay Jackson got rocked like a hurracaine. It sucks to see the wheels seemingly falling off of Brett Jackson, but damn, Brandon Guyer is really bringing it. Are Smith(25) and Guyer(24) too old for their respective levels to be considered top propects, because they should be given some top 10 consideration. Of course Im talking our farm system, not all of baseball.
  12. .281/.386/.468/.854 looks like the line of a guy who wants his fulltime starting job back. Question is, if he can maintain this through the end of the season, is he more valuable as our 2011 right fielder or a sell high candidate? They could do him like they did Jacque Jones after a hot 2nd half of 2007 and ship him off for nothing, a nothing that became an all star for the Braves after we traded him for more nothing.
  13. I think that Marquez Smith is officially the new Micah Hoffpauir/Jake Fox, though borderline age appropriate for a prospect.
  14. Damn, Shark got annihalated. 11 ER 9 H 5 BB 8 K Marquez with a 2B and a 3B though. And for some reason, the box`score has Coleman as the starter with a line of 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
  15. If he randomly attributes things to the law of averages four times, surely one of those will be correct. It goes if you have 3 of something, 1 will be good, 1 will be mediocre, 1 will be bad.
  16. Holy [expletive], the I Cubs put up a 20 spot. Id really like to see Chirinos, Smith, Lahair, and Snyder called up. Going by the law of averages, surely of the 4, at least 1 of them must be big league material.
  17. Now THATS how your supposed to treat the Pirates. On a side note, Thomas Diamonds been very good since going to the pen, though be it a small sample size.
  18. Now that Mannys gone, the Dodgers seem to be pretty much conceeding, so I really dont see any reason for them not to try to get whatever they can for a month of Lilly. Im sure a lot of contenders would be very happy to have him.
  19. Lahair, Smith, Snyder, and Chirinos are all making strong cases for September callups.
  20. Ozzie and Manny together should be interesting, if nothing else, for The White Sox little reality show on MLB TV.
  21. #6, no? Oops; you're right. Behind Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Seattle, Arizona, and Cleveland. Were in some good company, and I have a feeling that we may have to get used to it for the next few years.
  22. Seems to me, at least over the past few years that Kenny Williams strategy is to do whatever it takes to win right now, and deal with the future when it comes. As I said before, he always seems to get his guy, although he gives up a hell of a lot to get him.
  23. Manny's a bigger name than any of those guys, but I don't know that Roberts and Harden are lesser names than Gonzalez. Roberts was a fairly big name back a few years ago in his prime and Harden still is. I put Gonzalez in the same boat as Justin Morneau. Put him in a bigger market, and he may well be one of the top 10 "names" in the game, at least as far as potision players go.
  24. All I know is that if Aram does skip town after this year, we could be looking at a bad, bad 2011 team.
  25. My view on Fukudome remains what its been all year. If another team is willing to pick up a decent portion of his contract, or give up some good prospects, trade him, but hes to good to trade just for a roster spot.
