    And we should all hope that is how the thing goes down, if it ever does. The Cubs do not need to be shedding payroll. If they do dump some guys, I'm hoping they go the route of picking up the check in exchange for getting more talent in return. Right. Soriano and Marmol are owed well over 50 MM between them between now and the end of their tenures. Whether they're playing for the Cubs, Phillies, or sitting at home this is money that the Cubs will be on the hook for. If we could exchange them for say Brown, 1 or 2 of the Phils top 10-20, and maybe another high ceiling low level guy, I'd do it in a minute. Maybe even kick in Baker if they want him. their infield is horid from an offensive standpoint.

    Today: Garza v. Wolf Saturday: Volstad v. Marcum Sunday: Shark vs. Estrada I like our odds in 2/3 of this set.

    Not a lot of people would have considered it because until recently, Dom Brown was clearly the LF of the future, and Mayberry Jr.seemed like he'd be able to keep his seat warm for the time being. Well Brown's been bad in AAA, Mayberry's been awful. Pierre and Nix have both been great so far, but I don't think that they're going to fool anyone into believing that they're full time answers. The Phils are clearly a win now team, and Soriano would be a good fit with his new found defensive skills.

    As bad as the Phillies have been, they're still only 5.5 out and when you have starting pitching like they do you have a very good chance to make a run at any time. I don't know when Howard or Utley are coming back, but they should start shopping Blanton or Kendrick for offense. The Yankees would likely be interested. perhaps a deal for Swisher. Phillies middle relief has also been pretty horrible. I'd love to sell them on Soriano and Marmol for a package built around Dom Brown. They could bite assuming we eat the lions share of the money.

    Are you kidding? Beckett's 31 and coming off a CY Young caliber season. Considering the price teams will have to pay for Hamels or Greinke if they hit FA, the Red Sox will get far better offers for him than Soriano.

    No, he was a douche, he just did it quietly and it got overlooked because he was so good at baseball. He's really kind of an ass and has proven it on multiple occasions. A similar case was Michael Jordan. He was head and shoulders the best at what he did, and was great at smiling for the cameras, but there have been a lot of reports that he is and always has been arrogant and at times rude. It shouldn't come as a surprise from a guy who openly referred to his team mates as his "supporting cast".

    Don't forget the pressure to perform after signing a contract or just the media asking questions day after day about rumors/update/etc about the whole process... I guess I'm thinking in terms of myself when I was 22. If presented with massive amounts of guaranteed money, negotiating the details would be an afterthought. Remember your average 22 year old is probably in or just finishing college and maybe working at Starbucks or Applebees, and that's those who grew up with at least some money. This is a kid who grew up with nothing, so I can't imagine an 8/125 or 10/140 or 12/175 making a world of difference in his mind. I'm just saying that especially with players this age, the negotiating process is probably at least 85% the agent.

    Heck of a game for Josh. 3-4, two doubles and a walk. Pretty soon he might even have decent looking slash stats. Until his next slump. Brett, on the other hand is 5-32 w/4BB since his May 1st 4 hit game.

    Yes, negotiating a deal for millions of dollars distracts you from other things. Isn't that why they have agents? How much negotiating do the players do, especially at Castro's age?

    His 295 minor league PAs of garbage over that timeframe isn't helping matters. It's hard to deny that Browns star is on the way down, but if they had any interest in a Vitters-centric package for him, I certainly wouldn't say no. This isn't to say that they would go for it.

    I think the White Sox should be sellers, I am not sure Kenny Williams really sees it that way If the White Sox move Peavy, Konerko, and maybe Dunn, they could really begin to fix that farm system. Then again, if they want to go ALL IN again, they could liquidate whatever they have left on the farm and do some buying. They could go either way.

    Aside from Rizzos HR, not much to get excited about from anoffensive standpoint last night. Iowa seems to have given up quite a few big leads this season. Saddened to see Batista get rocked in back to back games.

    He's 22. If power developes, he'll be a fixture in the 3 spot. If not, he'll be a hell of a 2 hitter. I think he'll ultimately be a 12-15 HR guy with a ton of doubles and triples.

    I'm surprised that this has not been brought up yet unless I didn't look hard enough. I'll assume that it's more his agent not wanting to discuss it than anyone. Hard to blame him either. He's clearly THE cornerstone of the rebuilding process. With elite players becoming more and more scarce on the FA market, and the fact that the Cubs have a lot of money off the books and coming off the books which they have yet to spend, let's just say his kids won't be using a milk carton for a glove when they play.
