  1. this would be as good a time as any for Castillo to get his first hit.
  2. if by "people" you mean WSR, then yes. No, I think we should give him a chance to play left field.
  3. I've never thought of Soriano to be a historically bad LF. A bad LF, yes but not historically. When he was hitting, it was more palatable.
  4. But then you'd have to find someone else to want banned for life, not that that's ever been a problem for you.
  5. Only two more years of it. fortunately i think they'll be paying him to go away a lot earlier than september 2014. There was a time that I would have said not until we have a viable replacement, but it appears as though me might have one. We just need to find out if he can play the position. Jesus [expletive] Christ. When you have a guy who hits the [expletive] out of the ball with no true defensive home, you find somewhere to stash him, and that place is left field. This is the type of season where you can afford to give him a bit of on the job training.

  7. If he was so great he would have helped himself out. It's just frustrating that guys in front of him and behind him aren't doing much of anything. Soriano cannot move him over at the least. There's a K :( If he was so great he would have to rely on other guys to move him over, much less drive him home. What I'm saying is that he's a bum. LaHair is a big fat bum unless he hits a home run every time he comes to the plate. If LaHair's a bum, what does that make every other hitter we have other than Castro?
  8. was this ever a question? Probably from those who once thought that the Cajun Connection was the middle infield of the future.
  9. Pretty much. Cant complain about 3-4, but the rest are awful. Personally, I thought it would be the other way around.
  10. Aside from Brett Jackson, Iowa was an overall suck fest. 0fers from Cardenas and Rizzo, though Cardenas had 1 BB and Rizzo 2 and Beliveau and Batista each got tagged for 3 ER apiece.
  11. I've also read that in Tweets from Bruce Miles and others throughout the day.
  12. Pretty solid star by Wood that will likely result in an L. Better than anything Volstad's done so far. Hopefully there's a way he can stick around long enough for another.
  13. They really should revisit converting him to the bullpen before sticking a fork on him or dubbing him as organizational.
  14. It all depends on the offer. It seems to me as though if it was a serious option, LaHair would have seen more time in the OF by now. Again, we really don't have any big power bats aside from Rizzo, so I'd really like to see LaHair and Rizzo in the lineup together at some point. Of course for the right offer, you take it. I'd certainly expect to see the Dodgers and Brewers come sniffing around if they're contending when the time comes. Maybe the Angels if their 1st baseman doesn't work out. Maybe an even exchange if they pick up 75% of his contract 8-)
  15. The Rays and the Giants could both use short term stop gaps at 3B due to injury so maybe the Cubs can get one of them to pick up Dewitt's salary and send over a low level minor leaguer. A lot of teams should have interest in him as a utility guy. The A's are another option, although they just picked up Inge, which I guess makes the Tigers an option. The White Sox could use him. He certainly can't be worse offensively than Brent Morel.
  16. Sure it was. We got a guy who had the potential to be a starting 2nd or 3rd baseman in addition to 2 high ceiling pitching prospects. Granted, none of them turned out they was we would have liked but at the time, I was satisfied with the return for 2 months of Ted Lilly and a guy we didn't want anyway. It was certainly better than trading Greg Maddux for a guy who's ceiling was, well, Cesar Izturis. if DeWitt does not accept the minor league assignment, I'm guessing somebody will pick him up. He's the type of player that nobody will give up anything of value for, but if he's free, why not.
  17. Is this based on anything? ESPNChiCubs @ESPNChiCubs Once again, a short delay to start at most. RT @cbarrett0526: @ESPNChiCubs Are they optimistic about getting this one in? CarrieMuskat Here comes the tarp. Rain is supposed to pass thru area so won't be long delay. #Cubs #Dodgers Weather report on my phone says the rain will be coming down all through the night.
  18. According to Bruce Miles, Matt Kemp will sit this one out with a sore hamstring. Knowing that, it would be a shame not to get this one in.
  19. I'm going to guess that this afternoon's contest between the Cubs and the La Dodgers isn't happening. Tough break for T. Wood as well as Blake DeWitt who was DFAd to make room for a virus to be named later.
  20. Dreadful night for the Chiefs. down 18-2 in the 7th, and Andrew McKirahen, who's been pretty stellar for them left with an injury after facing 1 batter.
  21. Szczur 3-5 with 2 2B, so thats certainly a good thing. And has anyone else noticed that Matt Cerdas been pretty bad ass? Only 21 at AA.Going into tonight he was at .313/.371/.594 in 10 games. He was 0-1 with 3 BB. I know, it seems as though we need to look for things to get excited about these days.
  22. Why? We made the playoff 3 times since then. Pretty impressive considering we are in the same division as the Caridnals who had just an amazing decade. Because with the quality of prospects we had pumping through the system in the early part of the decade and the money spent in the later part we should have more to show for it than a few division flags and painful October memories. None of our prospects were Albert Pujols good during that era. Even Prior wasn't at that Level. We had a decent run. Everything went right for the Cardinals and a lot went wrong for us. That doesn't make it any less dissapointing. We had a multitude of failed prospects, injuries, and bad contracts. They got Albert Pujols in the 18th round, Chris Carpenter off the scrap heap, and a world series with a rotation of Chris Carpenter and a bunch of guys who never did anthing worthwhile again after dispursing throughout the division.

  24. Out of options I think. Richard Lewis and Andy Pratt were both pretty solid prospects, so it was pobably the best we could get at that point. Lewis was our Minor League Hitter of the year in '04 or '05 and then broke his leg sliding into second.
  25. Looks like Volstads single inning of suckage per game curse continues.
